Integrated planning and reporting have improved manufacturing decisions and support smooth operations
Pros and Cons
  • "Epicor Kinetic's user interface helps with planning and operation management as it has a module for planning and scheduling which is integrated."
  • "The weak point for us would be that we don't have enough resources to work on Epicor, so we are relying on partners which are outside the country and Epicor themselves."

What is our primary use case?

The typical use cases for Epicor Kinetic include manufacturing, as we are using it for manufacturing, finance, supply chain, and engineering.

What is most valuable?

Epicor Kinetic's user interface helps with planning and operation management as it has a module for planning and scheduling which is integrated.

The dashboards and reporting tools in this product help me improve decision-making as it has both dashboard and reporting features available with the ability to filter the information on the screen, so most of the time I don't need a report because I can filter the data directly.

I use Epicor Kinetic's mobile access feature, and it provides that functionality.

What needs improvement?

Regarding improvements about Epicor Kinetic, I think the interface is very easy to navigate and learn, and the data migration tools are available so you can migrate the data without a hassle. The cost and OpEx are lower than Oracle, SAP, and Microsoft. The weak point for us would be that we don't have enough resources to work on Epicor, so we are relying on partners which are outside the country and Epicor themselves. Otherwise, the product is good, and I wish they market their trainings just as Oracle and Microsoft do so more people can learn about it. I believe they have a marketing gap, so more people can learn and prepare themselves. I would not characterize it as resource-intensive in terms of infrastructure; however, in my country where I'm working, we don't have people trained on Epicor, so in terms of personnel, there are no people available. If I were to get people from other countries such as India and Europe, then there wouldn't be a problem, but we don't have trained people in the country, so that is a challenge which we see.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Epicor Kinetic for two years as we have not implemented it yet; we were trying to implement it for two years and were about to go live, but the company who was working with us closed down, so the project stopped.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate the technical support of Epicor as a 10 out of 10. The thing is we have not gone live with them, so I don't know how the technical support will be in practice. Epicor themselves provides support that is 10 out of 10, but if you're working with a partner or a post-sales arrangement, I can't answer that now because we are not live with the partners.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

There are complexities with the implementation of Epicor Kinetic, but it's straightforward overall. Since our processes are unique, we need some tweaking or customization to meet our process flow. There will be some customization and modification to meet our flow, but otherwise, it has all the features.

What about the implementation team?

We are currently discussing with Epicor directly to help us with the implementation, so we're still negotiating with Epicor.

What other advice do I have?

I am still familiar with Epicor and am looking for ways to implement it.

I am looking to work with the on-premises version, but Epicor is changing the licensing model as they are moving everything to the cloud.

Epicor Kinetic easily integrates with other tools and third-party tools, and integration is easy because we need to have a lot of integration with our manufacturing unit, plant, weighing scale, and other equipment. The integration can be API based, database to database, or we can have other means of third-party integration.

AI and machine learning in Epicor Kinetic help to automate routine tasks, but I cannot provide more details because I have not used it myself.

I have given Epicor Kinetic an overall review rating of 10 out of 10.

Improved daily operations with familiar ERP workflows but have needed better support and innovation
Pros and Cons
  • "Epicor Kinetic provides valuable functionalities for us as an ERP tool."
  • "There is no efficiency improvement, no better performance, no better operation flow, and no workflow change."

What is our primary use case?

Epicor Kinetic provides valuable functionalities for our organization as an ERP tool. The best features are similar to the previous version, with not a lot of difference between the two.

Our vendor team and Epicor partner team set up Epicor Kinetic for us. After the setup, we encountered an error following the upgrade a couple of months ago. We raised the issue with the Epicor team, but the person who performed the upgrade could not resolve it. We still have not received a resolution from them, despite uploading our entire production database to them. There is a stuck process that constantly runs, which has caused ongoing issues. We attempted to resolve it ourselves as it was a data issue, but they could not assist us. Even after spending a couple of weeks on it, we had to resolve it on our own.

What is most valuable?

Epicor Kinetic provides valuable functionalities for us as an ERP tool. The best features are the same as the previous version, with not a lot of difference between the two.

What needs improvement?

Overall, they have upgraded the user interface from Classic, which was Windows Classic, to a new UI. However, in the version we are using, there is no functionality change; only the UI has changed.

There is no efficiency improvement, no better performance, no better operation flow, and no workflow change. The operations are merely a superficial change that is a little bit complicated. Our company has used Epicor for around 20 years, and there has not been much change in the last 12 to 15 years.

Epicor Kinetic has a module-based pricing model. As customers, we have the license, but we cannot perform the certification; only their employees can do certification. They do not give certification to customers. Additionally, each module you add requires additional payment. For example, the HR module is not good, and the CRM is not good either. We already have it, but we cannot use it because it is not suitable for us. We use other modules such as engineering and finance, but we are not using them in full-fledged capacity. We are paying for six or seven modules but only use two or three, and if we want to use other modules, we have to pay extra. In the bundle they provide, only three or four modules are useful for us, and the others are not. We still have them, but we cannot exchange them for something else that might be advanced project management.

Epicor Kinetic does not have anything regarding AI and machine learning. Currently, there is not really any integration in our systems; however, this may happen in the future since it is an ERP system. Everything is in one system, but we do not really have any integration currently. I believe they do have a REST API, but we have not integrated anything with it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Epicor Kinetic for around a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We upgraded a couple of months ago and raised the issue with the Epicor team because the person who performed the upgrade could not resolve the error. We still have not received a resolution from them; we uploaded our entire production database to them, but they have not come back with the resolution. There is a stuck process which is constantly running, and we had issues with that. We tried to resolve it ourselves as it was a data issue, but they could not do it for us. Even after a couple of weeks of effort on our part, we had to resolve it on our own.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate their technical support as three because, especially with such an urgent issue, it was not efficient. We also had to reach them quite a few times. It is a priority issue, and it is still with their development team with no update.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

Our vendor team and the Epicor partner team set up Epicor Kinetic for us.

What about the implementation team?

Our vendor team and the Epicor partner team set up Epicor Kinetic for us.

What other advice do I have?

I have experience with Epicor Kinetic, having upgraded from Classic. I have experience with Epicor Kinetic for a few months now since the upgrade from Classic. The UI is better in the new version. We do not use the mobile access feature with Epicor Kinetic. It is an ERP tool. In the field, I have been working for more than 12 years, but with Epicor Kinetic, I have worked for around a year. We are on-premises and I am not familiar with purchasing it through the AWS Marketplace.

I have worked with Red Hat servers in the past, but not currently. That was more than three years ago when I worked with Red Hat, AWS, and S3. My partner is going to work on AWS in the future. I have worked with Ubuntu in the past, many years ago, but not currently. Other than Epicor Kinetic, I have experience with SolidWorks PDM, which is a 3D design tool. I have a solution with Sophos Connect VPN, which is a VPN tool.

I would rate this product an overall six out of ten.
