What is our primary use case?
Clients are primarily using SAP Business One for sales distribution, purchasing management, and some companies are using the manufacturing capabilities with specific add-ons that can be attached to the solution, as well as finance. This represents the most common usage of the solution.
Depending on the companies, SAP Business One is a very mature solution that can manage all the departments of one company. This depends on the dimension of the company, because if we are talking about small and mid-sized businesses, SAP Business One might be a very good fit for the majority of companies with low price, low implementation cost, and very high reliability. Since it has been around for twenty-three years, it has become very mature, and most of the bugs and situations that are found in companies are covered by the solution. In terms of functionalities, sales, purchasing, finance, manufacturing, and post-sales service are very strong functionalities, always highlighting the company dimension and complexity.
What is most valuable?
Analytics is being developed by SAP Business One. Partners, such as ourselves, also add capabilities to the product for analytics powered by Power BI or similar solutions that can be attached and connected directly to the database.
We can customize dashboards for each different user regarding each different role in SAP Business One, and this can be very useful for decision-making and also to have an initial assessment of company results in the different areas. When a user starts their day, they can immediately have figures and numbers about the company.
I do leverage mobile capabilities in SAP Business One. There is space to improve those apps for them to become stronger in terms of what they can provide to the user, but it is already a very good start for mobile.
What needs improvement?
The service app is somewhat limited in terms of what it can provide to field users because this solution is for people going to customers to install or repair things. When compared with other solutions in the market, the standard mobile app from SAP is somewhat limited. There is no task planning or Gantt charts for team planning, so there are functionalities that could be improved to give a better experience and more information to the user.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been dealing with SAP Business One since 2003, which is twenty-three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
SAP Business One is a very stable solution. It is so stable that we are not building more new functionalities into the solution. However, what is deployed is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
SAP Business One is scalable because partners are allowed to develop on top of the solution, not on the core system, but to create add-ons that can be integrated with the solution using API technology.
How are customer service and support?
The support from SAP is good because most issues can be resolved by the partner. It is quite rare for SAP support to be called into a company, usually only when there are legal or fiscal requirements that must be met by the system and partners cannot handle it. Occasionally, bugs in the communication between SAP and fiscal authorities occur, but typically support is fast.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have not worked with something similar to SAP Business One from other vendors.
How was the initial setup?
It is very straightforward to implement SAP Business One. For some companies that accept the standard SAP Business One solution without developments and complex configuration, we might have a process of one to two months to get a company running on SAP Business One. If there are complex processes, it could take up to six months, which is not a lot considering the kind of solution and the types of companies we are talking about.
What other advice do I have?
SAP Business One works with a development layer for integrations called the Service Layer. This layer is interesting for creating connections between different systems, including third-party systems, leveraging the capability of integration in both ways with web services. If the company needs to integrate a different solution to enhance the system, SAP can respond to that with the Service Layer and API technology.
We tried to connect with Sana e-commerce years ago and are now working with some customers on Shopify integration using SAP Business One.
I would give SAP Business One an eight out of ten.
