We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Splunk has sped up our response and reduced the time we spend manually monitoring any logs for ticketing tools or servers. It saves us around two hours daily.""he cloud performance is good.""The Splunk search is powerful compared to similar solutions. We get millions of data points within seconds.""Splunk helped reduce our mean time to resolve by around 60%.""As compared to other tools, it is very easy. It is very easy to learn. It also integrates well.""Everything is maintained by the Splunk support team. Users do not have to maintain any physical servers. They do not have to maintain indexes and searches. It reduces a lot of work on the user side.""I like the fact that we do not have to maintain all the cloud infrastructure. That is probably the main thing about the Splunk Cloud Platform.""Dashboards and alerting are the most valuable features. The dashboards let us see how the system looks in terms of anomalies, and the alerts trigger us to go and look at what possible problems are happening."

"We are using it because we have a VMware product. It has its own built in dashboards for VMware products, and that's a good thing.""The setup and installation are very easy.""The system's management and its alerts are the most valuable aspects of the solution.""The virtualization solution supports data center virtualization, network and security.""One of the things I like about it is its interface. When it comes to generating reports on VMs and stuff, it's very quick. This is very handy for the technical team, who need to generate reports quickly. So that's really good.""It is very scalable and can handle a large workload.""I like the interface.""We use the on-premises version of this solution for log analysis and to find details about certain issues."

Cons
"There can be more modules and more integration with other areas in the cloud and on-prem. I am not sure whether it includes network devices and things like that.""Some of the implementation is challenging. They're not very proxy-aware.""The on-premises version of Splunk includes all the integrations, while the Cloud platform lacks certain integrations and is limited in terms of the number of supported apps.""Splunk should offer various options for real-time monitoring.""In the case of knowledge objects, even a Splunk admin does not have access to delete them. If we want to remove a knowledge object, we need to contact Splunk support and raise a case. After that, they delete it. They should give us access to delete knowledge objects.""The training models can only be accessed for 30 days, even if it is paid training.""Splunk Cloud Platform needs to be made more user-friendly because it's not user-friendly.""Its stability and performance can be better. Very rarely does a day go by when we do not see an error in the console, such as a health check error. Because it is cloud-hosted, we do not have access to the backend to figure it out ourselves. We are reliant on their support to figure it out, and a couple of days later, the error comes back or it is a different error. It is a never-ending cycle of support tickets. Their support is also not great."

More Splunk Cloud Platform Cons →

"The solution isn't user-friendly for admins.""The tool does not provide a centralized pane for monitoring.""The pricing of the solution could be improved.""I would like to see more tutorials or at least an introduction video from the supplier, so you can become proficient and get the most out of the solution. You might not get the full benefit from a logging or reporting solution because you might not have a particular tool enabled. You could leave something out of your analysis because you aren't aware of it or you don't know how to set it up.""I don't use the solution on a day to day basis, so I'm not sure what specifically can be improved.""They should improve their web interface to make it more user-friendly.""In vRealize login files, we have limitations regarding log partitions.""Log Insight should be better at dealing with audits and security logs. We use another product called QRadar for that."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The licensing is based on the amount of data that we send to the cloud on a daily basis."
  • "The price is something that people complain about."
  • "The licensing costs depend on the state of your environment and the fees are paid on a monthly basis."
  • "The pricing model makes this an expensive solution."
  • "There are additional features that you would need to purchase depending on your use case."
  • "The cost of using Splunk Cloud Platform is high, but the value it provides is worth the investment."
  • "I am familiar with the pricing and licensing model a little bit. I am not sure about the particulars of the actual price that we have, but I do like the idea of going towards a more CPU-based approach rather than the ingest approach because it allows us the ability to ingest more data if we need it."
  • "It is a touchy subject because we are locked into it. That goes back to the rehydrating data. We cannot have the retention that we want to store for legal and compliance purposes because that is seven years' worth of data for some of the indexes, so we ship them off into S3 buckets and install them there, at which point they are invisible to Splunk, so we have to rehydrate them, but we cannot rehydrate those pockets into Splunk Cloud. We have to rehydrate them into a self-hosted version of Splunk, which can take days to set up and get going. I would not call Splunk's licensing and pricing predatory, but they have made it very difficult to maintain the independence of your own data."

  • "Pricing could always be lower. If it were free, I would be more satisfied."
  • "The license cost for any other monitoring tool is too high compared to this product."
  • "Pricing is good because it is part of the suite package. It comes in a bundle for us."
  • "The licensing cost for vRealize Log Insight is a little higher, so in terms of cost, it all depends upon what kind of environment you have. If you have a complete virtualized environment, or at least you're using a ninety-five percent virtualized environment, then vRealize Log Insight will play a very good role because it is a VMware component, so it has very tight integration with other VMware components and systems. This means you don't have to procure any other monitoring and management tool, and you don't need a separate automation tool. vRealize Log Insight will have an upper hand if your environment is purely virtualized on VMware. If you're using a mix of physical and virtual components, for example, a 50:50 ratio, then you need to have a third-party component to manage overall monitoring."
  • "I am not sure what the exact cost is. However, I believe the vRealize suite costs $2,500.00 per year."
  • "I rate the product's price a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
  • "I think it is a reasonably priced product."
  • "The pricing has been updated recently."
