We performed a comparison between Oracle Solaris, Ubuntu Linux, and Windows 10 based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Red Hat, Canonical, Oracle and others in Operating Systems (OS) for Business."We use the solution as an internal operating system."
"Solaris is scalable because they have their own file system, like CFS."
"The most valuable feature of Oracle Solaris is the incremental backup that happens in the system."
"It is a scalable solution. I recommend it for bigger companies."
"Solaris' best feature is its stability."
"This product is stable, has good documentation, lots of solutions, a big community, and good support."
"Solaris's best features are high availability, robustness, and database hosting."
"Oracle Solaris is great due to the fact that it actually is meant for high-end servers."
"I like this product much better than some other similar solutions."
"I like the flexibility."
"Ubuntu is very easy to use and you can manage it on your own."
"The integration with other applications, like Chrome or Firefox, works excellent for users navigating and test browsing."
"The most valuable features are stability and updates. We are not using the interface, the interface of the OS, we are using it as the server. We actually sync it through SSH and we deploy our application, so we don't have access to do it. The updates are very helpful and the way they update their OS is very helpful."
"The most valuable features of Ubuntu Linux is the reliability, the ease of package management, and the ease of upgrading from one version to the next."
"It's great for security and it is very safe."
"Doesn't require significant manual configuration."
"Technical support is very good."
"The performance is decent. I don't see many incidents of it crashing."
"The solution is stable and scalable."
"Windows 10 is easy to use with a good user interface."
"Windows 10 is very easy to use."
"We are satisfied with this operating system."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is its ease of use. It is the most used operating system in the world."
"The solution is easy to install. Even my child could set up the system."
"Solaris' package management could be improved, especially in comparison to Linux."
"This product is not as flexible as other similar solutions on the market today."
"The challenge arises from the differences in commands and configurations compared to more common systems like Linux."
"There is an issue where Solaris doesn't give the correct figures for memory use when checked."
"I believe before Oracle was using Oracle Linux, they were using Oracle Solaris for their customers who are using Oracle databases. This was because it was more optimized for the hardware built for it. It has good performance for the database only. However, if you take it out of the Oracle applications, it will not do well compared to other operating systems, such as Linux or even Windows can have better performance."
"The solution is pricey and can be improved by lowering the cost."
"Solaris is not easy to use. It needs better GUI, UI, and configuration tools."
"They could also enable Oracle OEM for x86 architecture as well."
"Occasionally, we have problems with stability."
"The config file can be changed in many ways, but with other solutions, there is only one way to configure the system."
"I don't like the graphical interface in Ubuntu and it should be better."
"More drivers for hardware such as different network adapters should be developed."
"On the gaming side, things are happening but there are some games that should be ported to Ubuntu."
"Ubuntu Linux could improve by having more out-of-the-box functionality for common plug-and-play devices, such as printers. It's sometimes more difficult to plug-and-play printers with Ubuntu Linux. You need to work a bit and make some drivers work. They need to work a bit on plug-and-play devices."
"The solution could be more stable and secure."
"There is room for improvement, particularly in the GUI aspect of the product."
"It would be better if they brought back the easy way to create multiple sessions on Windows 10. It's very complicated for our customers, and most of the time they need to call us to do it because they know that we are in an office environment and most of the time the competence is not for only one person. To optimize the resources, they need to have several sessions on the same desktop or the same workstation. This makes it easier to manage and maintain. My recommendation is to bring back the easy way and have several sessions on the same operating system. The price could be better as well."
"The interface could be more user-friendly."
"The solution is not secure."
"Stability-wise, it's okay. Sometimes my laptop slows down when I have a lot of applications open, but this could be a laptop issue rather than a Windows 10 issue."
"The performance of Windows 10 is a bit slow because it takes a lot of time for loading. That is a concern because the same 4GB Ram laptop, which I used with Windows XP and other versions, has been faster than Windows 10."
"Windows 10 could improve the security of the solution."
"I do not like the interface of Windows 10 very much and the performance could be enhanced. Sometimes everything is a little bit cumbersome. When I used the interface of Windows 7 it was much quicker than Windows 10, as far as finding the information. I preferred Windows 7 for this interoperability. It was easier to interact with the Windows 7, to use the control panel. With Windows 10 there are fewer settings in the control panel as well, but there's the different possibility to reach the same information, and sometimes it creates confusion."
"I am not so happy with the performance"
