Automation has improved alerts and file handling but script-based setup still needs simplification
Pros and Cons
  • "OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence works well if you know the syntax very well and you have experience in creating scripts or REXX syntax; it would be very good and is a good tool, but it takes time to learn, so that is for experienced staff to work with."
  • "My impressions on OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence is that it's quite difficult to use, as it relies mainly on the coding syntax and doesn't provide an easy-to-use GUI."

What is our primary use case?

We use the auto-purge transaction for some transactions that run very long, and we also use automation to open and close files in CICS as well.

What is most valuable?

I use OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence mostly for message triggering for alert and alarm, but that is a normal feature that automation systems should do. It works well in alerting, but that is the basic function of automation tools. Everyone in the market can do that, so I don't have much impression of the tool; it is just a normal tool, in my opinion.

What needs improvement?

My impressions on OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence is that it's quite difficult to use, as it relies mainly on the coding syntax and doesn't provide an easy-to-use GUI. OPS_MVS should have an easy-to-use menu, as the way to create the script is quite difficult, and they should improve this.

For how long have I used the solution?

I just joined the team about two years ago, but they have used OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence for quite some time, maybe five years.

How are customer service and support?

My team built the customized automation scripts by ourselves, and sometimes we have vendors to help us also, but we never asked the CA team to help us.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

For automation products, I used to use IBM System Automation a long time ago, and also MainView Automation, and Control-O. I prefer MainView the most, either MainView Automation or Control-O, as it is very easy to use, while I think IBM System Automation is quite similar to OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence because it relies heavily on the syntax and coding rather than the GUI.

What other advice do I have?

OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence is the automation tool I use. I think OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence is good for creating complex rules because it's coding, but it takes time to learn how to use it. OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence works well if you know the syntax very well and you have experience in creating scripts or REXX syntax; it would be very good and is a good tool, but it takes time to learn, so that is for experienced staff to work with. I would rate the product a six from one to ten. I cannot think of any additional features in the next release of OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence.

Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

Real-time monitoring has improved incident response but still needs built-in history and prediction

What is our primary use case?

SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence is used for monitoring CICS and z/OS, and it is also used to monitor metrics and trigger events to OPS/MVS for automation triggering.

SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence's real-time monitoring is used to diagnose resources, and most of the time, it is used to diagnose the slow response time of a transaction. The tool identifies the resource that is being used and what it is waiting for, which might be potential causes of the slow response time or the root cause of the slow response time.

What is most valuable?

SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence's real-time monitoring is utilized.

SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence's data integration and visualization capabilities have helped improve operational outcomes by reducing the time to respond to incidents because it is a real-time monitor. It is also used to send an alarm to a tool that opens a ticket for the incident.

What needs improvement?

A long-term performance database in SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence would be beneficial to see historical performance for the long term and observe trends. Currently, a program must be created to gather data, and it should be part of the product with a built-in database inside SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence so that a custom program to gather data and keep it somewhere is not necessary.

Prediction capability is not available in SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence—the kind of machine learning intelligence desired, such as the ability to predict patterns or seasonality or month-end behavior. However, if there is a chance to use WatchTower, this ability might be gained.

For how long have I used the solution?

SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence has been in use for almost two years.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support by Broadcom is rated as seven out of ten.

I do not open tickets to CA that often, so the response time or first-level support quality cannot be assessed.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

CA SYSVIEW is currently in use, and OMEGAMON was used a long time ago.

MainView, BMC MainView, and OMEGAMON were used before using SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence.

Changing the company is one reason for switching, and the team was seeking something that consumed less CPU, which led them to turn to SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence.

What about the implementation team?

A vendor implemented SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence.

What other advice do I have?

The price of SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence is unknown as I am a user and do not have access to pricing information. I have provided this review with a rating of seven out of ten.
