AI-driven code analysis has reduced defects and now improves development team efficiency

What is our primary use case?

I have used Uplevel to enhance code quality, which in turn reduced defects for a telecom client.

Uplevel analyzed the client codebase and identified the technical debt, code smells, and areas with high complexity. It helped reduce defects through defect prediction and improved code quality.

Uplevel's machine learning algorithm analyzes historical data and predicts that specific modules in a client application have a high likelihood of defects due to complexity and recent changes. Due to this capability, the development team focuses on high-risk modules, conducting thorough code reviews and testing to mitigate potential defects. With this approach, the team identified and addressed more than five critical defects, which likely reduced production issues and improved overall application reliability.

How has it helped my organization?

Production issues have decreased significantly and helped our organization level up.

The overall time required for code reviews and fixing bugs has decreased. Because this time went down, it helped the team focus more on code instead of worrying about bugs and code review times.

I have seen that time is definitely saved and the tasks that four developers would do have been cut down to just two, as Uplevel already performs code reviews and helps with bug defect identification.

What is most valuable?

Uplevel offers an AI-powered platform with machine learning algorithms that help with defect predictions and other predictions.

Uplevel is helpful in reducing human error. It helps reduce human effort and also reduces the number of defects that come when the product goes live in production.

What needs improvement?

Uplevel has reached a level of near perfection. However, there are parts that can be improved, including integration with more tools, enhancement of AI-powered insights, and customizations that can be protected. It can also provide expanded language support and incorporate continuous feedback, which will improve product quality.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Uplevel for around a year and a half.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are no stability issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There are no scalability issues.

How are customer service and support?

The support is very good. Whenever I required support, I logged an email or ticket and received a response within the next few hours.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Negative

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not use any previous solutions.

How was the initial setup?

The setup cost was affordable given what Uplevel provides. There were no issues.

What about the implementation team?

It was the organization's decision, so I did not have any insight there.

What was our ROI?

Uplevel provides a positive return on investment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The setup cost was affordable given what Uplevel provides. There were no issues.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did not consider alternate solutions.

What other advice do I have?

My overall satisfaction based on support, time, and the features that Uplevel provides is an eight. My review rating for this product is ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Effective lifecycle management improves with strong version control and deep integration needs
Pros and Cons
  • "The version control maintains consistent versions, which is beneficial."
  • "The strong point of Windchill is its close connection between the CAD structure and the bill of materials structure."
  • "There is room for improvement in implementing features fully."
  • "I would not recommend doing business with PTC regardless of the product."

What is our primary use case?

I am using Windchill for managing CAD data and document data, specifically for product lifecycle management.

What is most valuable?

The strong point of Windchill is its close connection between the CAD structure and the bill of materials structure. This feature is its main strength yet also limits flexibility. The core functionality is commendable with many good concepts, however, they are not fully implemented. The version control maintains consistent versions, which is beneficial.

What needs improvement?

There is room for improvement in implementing features fully. The user interface is inconsistent and outdated. It appears that different departments or locations have implemented features differently, leading to inconsistency. There is a significant need for improved integration, particularly using OSLC for connecting with other tools like SAP ERP or ALM tools. The version control, while consistent, lacks flexibility regarding changes in CAD data and requires manual intervention for BOM management analysis.

For how long have I used the solution?

I started to explore Windchill about ten years ago. I recently resumed working with it three months ago but have not yet been using it productively.

How are customer service and support?

The support initially involved too much blame game, especially after the initial implementation. This seems to be a style of doing business with PTC characterized by a strong sales pitch but lacking in consistent follow-up support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have previously used Siemens Teamcenter for change management, which offered a better solution for integrating different ALM and PLM worlds using OSLC.

How was the initial setup?

During the beginning of the implementation with Windchill PLM, PTC's approach was more focused on the sales pitch with fewer end-user considerations.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated Siemens Teamcenter, which offered a solution for connecting ALM and PLM tools more effectively out of the box.

What other advice do I have?

I would not recommend doing business with PTC regardless of the product. Although Windchill has a commendable core functionality, it lacks refinement and complete feature implementation.

On a scale from one to ten, I would rate Windchill a seven due to its interface and partial implementation of features.
