Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution scales well.""Multifeatured and easily scalable data catalog, with good data domain discovery and data profiling features.""The capability of the tool to scan and capture the metadata from a variety of sources is one of the capabilities that I find most useful. The central repository into which it is going to put that captured metadata is the best.""The product seems stable enough.""The way that the solution scans is very useful.""It can automatically connect or associate business terms with various options, providing flexibility beyond general capabilities.""The most valuable feature of Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog is it provides clients with a full view of the enterprise data assets. For example, how many data assets they have and who owns them.""The most valuable feature is its ability to extract metadata from various sources- be it an old SaaS application or the latest cloud application."

"I'm very passionate about this solution because if you look at any other tool that costs around $200 - $300,000, like Delphix which costs you a million dollars, Talend is very cheap and is almost is at par with what others can do. There is one thing which Delphix does which Talend cannot do, but overall, I would say apart from that, if you're looking for a solution, you should give it a try.""The product's integration with PostgreSQL and Jira has been helpful for us. Its performance is good. However, we do not use it for large data sets.""Talend Data integration has a wide library of connectors.""We have multiple use cases for this solution. We integrate with Salesforce, SAP and Oracle databases to build business logic and provide reporting."

Cons
"Interoperability is one area where EDC has room for improvement. It was challenging when the faculty took over the data world and had specific vendors they wanted to use, and some were not particularly open platforms.""The scalability is tough.""The UX and UI of the solution are areas with certain shortcomings where improvements can be made in the future.""Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog could improve by having a much better user interface. It is not user-friendly.""This solution is hard to set up and its interface is not user-friendly. It's also not as stable, and the technical support takes a lot of time to solve simple problems.""The model is somewhat flexible. There are certain aspects of the model that are not as flexible as we would like. It doesn't do certain things to a great level of depth. So, in situations where we want to drill in to do something specific, we have to essentially copy that data into our own structures in order to add that additional layer of flexibility.""Currently, there are limitations in processing and the interface.""IEDC can improve the comparison of lineages."

More Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog Cons →

"There are no concurrent licenses, they only have seat licenses on cloud. That's the whole challenge. For example, if in any project your headcount increases or decreases, you do not have that concurrence and you have a seat license, you run into challenges because you have to procure a few more licenses for getting the job done.""The tool's technical support needs to be better. It doesn't have a local data center but pushes everything to the cloud. They need to check in with customers to see if they're happy and how well the solutions work. They need to assign a customer success manager for the accounts they sell.""Sometimes there are bugs which are unidentified and we have to follow-up with the Talend team to resolve them. In a critical situation, it takes time for them to update patches.""Due to using the open-source version of Talend Data Integration, which lacks a scheduler, our current approach involves developing jobs in Talend, exporting them as Java packages, and utilizing an external scheduler, such as Windows Scheduler, to manage the scheduling process."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I have no idea what the price actually is. It is probably not going to be the cheapest, but it is a pretty stable and robust platform from the backend standpoint."
  • "I rate the product's pricing a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive."
