We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"When devices are having performance issues, it proactively build dashboards which allow us to go and do health checks, and resolve problems before they become an issue.""You can create intelligent alerts so you have enough time to replace the router or interface before it's full. The same is applicable for CBQoS channels.""One feature I like about CA Performance Management is the certification of the devices.""Great dashboards and good integration with other solutions.""It saves time having it all on one place, so you do not have to jump around from different tools and try to merge the data. It is already done for you.""We're able to present data from multiple back-end collection sources into a single dashboard for the users. So they don't have to go to multiple locations to get data about a particular item, or device.""The out-of-the-box dashboards are valuable, in terms of being able to visualize performance data in ways that we haven't in the past.""The solution's performance itself is very good because it is a vertical database that loads very fast in comparison to other products."

"The most valuable aspects of the solution are its ease of use and its ease of implementation.""For us, the ease of deployment in combination with TMZ was the most important part because we don't have to manually deploy a complex monitoring solution. We can more or less do that with the click of a button, and we are not dependent on the developers to provide us with all the necessary features and functions to make that work. We can just deploy it on a workload cluster and monitor at least a good part of the workload. If we want to go into detail, we clearly need to make changes, but for a good part of application monitoring, it gives us good insights.""VMware comes with a support team, and if you have trouble, you can easily create a ticket, and VMware will help you. Therefore, the best aspect is the support.""The solution is great for virtualization and preparing the infrastructure in Tanzu to test products. It's very fast and has good visibility.""This solution allows me to have true visibility for any metrics when it comes to my cloud, and private.""No issues with stability.""The features I find most valuable is the querying and alerting capabilities.""People are very pleased with the implementation."

Cons
"Install is done as root, which is a security no-no, and the database IO requirements were not stated correctly, which lead to a year of instability.""I think it would be helpful having a more comprehensive set of certifications so that I could natively deploy devices to my environment and the tool would immediately recognize and immediately be able to provide relevant performance information without a lot of tuning on my part.""Even though we can see when something is not available, it would also be it would be nice if some sort of alerting took place to that you could know immediately if something went down.""We experience disconnections between the solutions own components.""The quantity of views which are tied to specific metric families is too high. Also, the problem is the view doesn't tell you which metric family it uses, so you don't know why you don't see data.""CA PM Business Hours Filtering: I understand that all monitoring systems have defects. The Business Hours Filtering does not always function properly. Sometimes, when applying business hours to CA PM reports that are 30 or more days in duration, the report generation times out and does not display results. We have other CA PM reports that, when we apply Business Hours Filtering, the report results displayed are the same as without the filter. We are not sure if this is a defect in CA PM or if it is a result of our complex configuration (folder structure) and application of business hours.""I would like to have more tasks, graphs, and possibilities for linking to the graphs and reports added to the solution.""It needs role-based administration."

"In the new version, I would love to see more prediction capabilities. It would be great if one could see the alerts get a little more enriched with information and become more human-friendly instead of the technical stuff that they put in there. I think those would be really awesome outcomes to get.""I would like to see integration with Kubernetes cluster and APIs so that you can manage the entire stack.""They could make it more easy to plug-in data so that a nontechnical person will be able to use it, like accountants or finance people. That way they don't have to ask us.""The documentation and integration with Kubernetes could be improved.""The main problem I have is that the license cost is very high.""The initial setup should be easier and more seamless.""The implementation is a long process that should be improved.""Its billing model is consumption-based. I understand the consumption-based model, but it is not necessarily easy to estimate and guess how many points or how much we are going to consume on a specific application up until we get to that point. So, for us, it would be helpful to have more insights or predictability into what we can expect from a cost perspective if we are starting to use specific features. This can potentially also drive our consumption a bit more."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We were looking at other vendors in the marketplace for NetFlow, and CA just beat everybody else in price, cost, and the size to implement. "
  • "Do your homework and know how many devices you will be managing out of the gate. Be sure to project what your growth will be each year."
  • "They should provide more scalable licensing for the product."
  • "I like the licensing model because it's device-based."
  • "We purchase a license to use the solution every three years and we have multiple contracts. They have been increasing the price annually. We have a baseline for three years and then we need to pay the difference from the baseline, and we are in the process of negotiating a new price for all the licenses we need. The price overall is affordable."
  • "The tool's pricing is based on the number of network devices."

  • "Different locations require different setups. In your terms, around 300 to around 400K USD."
  • "I don't have the details. In our case, there is a mixture in place. We have production usage, and we are also doing training for VMware. So, we also have a training instance. It is worth the money you would spend on it. That's because if you were to build all of this yourself by using some of the open source tools, then you would need a lot of time."
  • "The licensing costs are very high, particularly when you consider that we have to purchase a level 1 license for every integration, such as the load balancer, HAProxy, and the MSSP. And if you want to use vSAN, that's another license. Then, of course, Tanzu Observability has its own separate license."
  • "I would rate the pricing as three out of five."
