We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We know the vulnerability in advance, so we can take some action for that vulnerability.""Good interface and visibility.""The new scanning function is a valuable feature that wasn't available until recently.""The Compliance engine has helped put our auditors and senior executives at ease, as we can quickly and accurately measure ourselves against hundreds of compliance checks to include CIS benchmarks, PCI, and other best practices.""The identification of misconfigurations, maintenance of compliance in a centralized way, and visibility across all the multi-cloud tenants are the key functionalities.""All of the features are very useful in today's market.""We have more visibility than ever before, appreciating the valuable and proactive insight that we receive from the platform.""Cloud security posture management is the feature we've been using the longest."

"VMware Tanzu Mission Control has many valuable features, such as ease of use and customization.""Defining security metrics has proven beneficial for customers in maintaining a safe environment.""Tanzu Mission Control has quite a set of rich features when compared to OpenShift.""A feature we find valuable is that other products can also be integrated with Mission Control. This means that we can see the status of specific clusters, as well as view the monitoring application logs all from one point.""The multi-tenancy with the VCD is great.""I have multiple Kubernetes environments within my environment. TMC gives me a single pane view, which is good for managing everything.""It definitely gives the end customer a good overview and perspective of running applications in terms of overall workload footprint. TMC provides a very detailed description of your cloud-native application in the form of graphical visualization.""The most popular feature of VMware Tanzu Mission Control is its graphical user interface for describing network policies on the Service Mesh, which is highly integrable with other tools commonly used in supply chains such as security."

Cons
"One feature of the product that I would like to enhance is the possibility to connect to vulnerability management platforms so that the issues that emerge from the scans can then be ingested directly into the vulnerability management process.""Currently, worldwide, there are many companies of all sizes that do not understand the value that their data has, but even with all existing clouds, they also do not understand what the shared responsibility model is. They only assume that by having a cloud, the provider must ensure safety, when the truth is that the providers only secure their sites. Everything we do in the cloud and how we configure it is actually our responsibility.""Automation and advanced threat prevention have room for improvement.""Making basic rules is easy, but it's complex if you want to do something a little more nuanced. I've been unable to make some rules that I wanted. I couldn't evaluate some values or parameters of the components I look for. I haven't always been able to assess them.""I would like them to include support for their products in languages other than English.""Scalability, particularly in workload protection, is an area that needs improvement.""The reporting dashboard responds slowly, which leads to late report compilation.""The guidelines to implement or to link with the clouds are not complete."

"The solution could improve by having better integration with other solutions such as HPE.""The network control and security policies must be improved.""Cost is always a concern. Smaller companies might find the price a bigger issue.""Having a unified dashboard to manage all infrastructure, whether it involves additional IT infrastructure or modern apps, would be highly advantageous""We want to see a new feature that helps build more security architecture like Zero Trust Security or shifting left in Kubernetes.""This product doesn't have a GUI. In order to use it properly, I need to connect it to a new GUI or build a GUI to manage it — it's pretty difficult.""The disaster recovery feature could be improved to provide better tracking of issues. I would also like to see the introduction of a dashboard view, for even further integration of all the areas that Mission Control looks at.""It is not easy to build a solution with containers. It has a graphical user interface, but you need to have a lot of knowledge of Linux and how to work in the command mode. Its support can also be improved. Currently, its biggest disadvantage is that it is a new product, and the clients prefer to go for a solution that has been in the market for a long time. There are not that many people who know this product."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "They support either annual licensing or hourly. At the time of our last negotiation, it was either one or the other, you could not mix or match. I would have liked to mix/match. "
  • "I would advise taking into account the existing number of devices and add a forecast of the number of devices to be added in the coming year or two, to obtain better pricing."
  • "It is a very straightforward licensing model that is based on the number of assets you are discovering and managing with the solution."
  • "The licensing and costs are straightforward, as they have a baseline of 100 workloads (number of instances) within one license with no additional nor hidden charges. If you want to have 200 workloads under Dome9, then you need to take out two licenses for that. Also, it does not have any impact on cloud billing, as data is shared using the API call. This is well within the limit of free API calls provided by the cloud provider."
  • "I suggest that you pay attention to the product pricing because while there are no tricks, and the licensing model is transparent, the final numbers may surprise you."
  • "Right now, we have licenses on 500 machines, and they are not cheap."
  • "The pricing is tremendous and super cheap. It is shockingly cheap for what you get out of it. I am happy with that. I hope that doesn't get reported back and they increase the prices. I love the pricing and the licensing makes sense. It is just assets: The more stuff that you have, the more you pay."
  • "Licensing and costs are straightforward, as they have a baseline of 100 workloads within one license and no additional charges."

  • "There are different licenses available. You have to upgrade your license if you want to scale the solution more."
  • "I would recommend that businesses look into the full price for their requirements. The price is high, but there are some open-source add-ons that can be used for customization while keeping costs down, although these might not be suitable for everyone."
  • "VMware Tanzu Mission Control is cheaper than Red Hat OpenShift."
  • "Its pricing is very competitive. We get around 70% or 75%, sometimes even 80%, discount on the product. I would rate it a four out of five in terms of pricing."
  • "The solution is only for large or medium size enterprises because it is expensive."
  • "The product is not expensive, but it is not cheap."
  • "It is not the most expensive option, and I believe the capabilities align well with the value it provides."
  • "Since we were at a large data center, the price might not have been a concern for us."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by VMware Tanzu Mission Control

users who are currently using the solution.

PeerSpot user Abbasi P., who is a Vice President Derivatives Ops IT at a financial services firm, mentions what he finds to be most useful about the product, stating, “Tanzu Mission Control has quite a set of rich features when compared to OpenShift. I like the dashboard for monitoring the CI/CD pipeline, the entire process of releasing it into the cloud, and deploying it to the cloud.

Aurelio R., who is an IT Specialist at a tech services company, explains why he thinks the solution is valuable. “The most important feature of Tanzu Mission Control is its integration with the other products, especially with ESX and vSAN. This is a strong part of Tanzu Mission Control. In other solutions, such as OpenShift or Kubernetes, you can find similar features, but they don't have similar integration. With Tanzu Mission Control, you get a total solution with only one provider. You have the integration with the infrastructure, virtualization of networking, and virtualization of storage. You have a natural integration, and you don't have the problem of integrating it with different products or providers. Sometimes, different companies have good integration, but it is not always guaranteed. For example, many years ago, Cisco and VMware were good partners in networking, but when VMware started to sell ESX, the relationship was broken. This is the problem that you can face when you are using solutions from two different companies."

A Cloud Architect at a computer software company says, “The multi-tenancy with the VCD is great.
