Enables users to protect data on different sites and seamlessly move data over the network
Pros and Cons
  • "The tool seamlessly moves data over the network without putting pressure on the network."
  • "The tool should also work on third-party solutions."

What is our primary use case?

Our customers use the solution to move data from one site to another. They do it every day. There’s a schedule for SnapMirror. It is for data protection.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution enables customers to protect data on different sites. It doesn’t stop us from working on our active site while data is moved to the passive site. It’s a big value. The data is compressed. The tool seamlessly moves data over the network without putting pressure on the network.

What is most valuable?

The product’s simplicity is top-notch. The ability to maintain the consistency of data is valuable. It helps us avoid copying errors from one site to another.

What needs improvement?

The tool should also work on third-party solutions.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with the product for two or three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have not had any stability issues with the product. We have had some network issues, though.

How are customer service and support?

I have escalated issues to the support team about the backlog of data that was not replicated. We were able to find a solution for it.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. It is a straightforward licensing. We have 90% of the tools deployed on-premise and some instances on the cloud. It is not difficult to maintain the product.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing can be improved.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend the tool to others. It works only on NetApp’s storage. Overall, I rate the product a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Efficient data replication and transfer, which allows for backup and restoration
Pros and Cons
  • "The performance and stability are valuable features. It seems to fulfill all the requirements."
  • "The price could be cheaper."

What is our primary use case?

One customer used it to migrate their data. I checked SnapMirror after a few hours, and it was working properly.

What is most valuable?

The performance and stability are valuable features. It seems to fulfill all the requirements.

What needs improvement?

The price could be cheaper.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with this product. It has been a couple of months.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is working fine for my customer's use cases and servers.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support are very good. We get proper resolution on time. They even divert the calls based on the APAC region's time. We get timely support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was not complex. The configuration itself takes about one or two hours. But if there are ports that need to be opened on the customer's end, that can add some time.

What about the implementation team?

I've deployed it on-premises. I've configured it for two customers, and it's been working properly for them.

First, you need to open the required ports. Then, you can do cluster mirroring, and you can replicate at the volume level. The required port should be open for both NetApp storage systems. You need to follow the NetApp recommendations for opening ports. Then, you go through cluster pairing and installation and select the volume you want.

One person can deploy it, but ideally, a team of two people is best for deployment and maintenance.

What was our ROI?

The main benefit is data replication and transfer, which allows for backup, recording, and restoration. It's especially valuable for developers who need a secondary copy of data in case of emergencies.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing cost is on a yearly basis. It is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten. I would recommend using this product.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
