We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I value the options it has for storage tiering (i.e. whether it should be a flash, SSD, or pushed to the cloud) depending on the data provided.""Adaptative backup and SLAs simply allow you to tell a machine to backup without taking care of the backup window.""We do like the instant recovery... Now, we say, "Okay, give me 15 seconds and I can get this back up for you." And within that 15 seconds it's on and the only thing that we have to do afterwards is vMotion it off of the Rubrik storage back to where it should rest.""The search functionality is second to none as the speed of the search is fast across the whole system and predictive.""Rubrik has improved our organization by minimizing downtime.""The most valuable feature is the archive to cloud location and the automation around the PowerShell script. There are also reports and dashboards.""The web interface is user-friendly, clean, and it provides a good summary of what you're protecting at a glance.""What I like about Rubrik is its strong focus on security, particularly in combating ransomware threats."

"vSAN is one of the easiest implementations of any VMware product. It's almost like click it to enable it, then you're almost done.""I have found the solution to be scalable.""The installation is very easy.""The solution has high performance.""The features of vSAN allow us to reduce our operational complexity to a large degree.""Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""I have found that the multi-homing feature is very valuable in VMware vSAN. It is an easy-to-use solution.""The most important feature to me, in my role, is cost. In the renewal cycle for storage, it was about a 40 percent saving compared to going to an all-flash array, which is what we first looked at doing. Secondly, performance: we need clinical data access in five seconds and need to do everything we can to retain that metric. Thirdly, I was really pleasantly surprised during the data migration across to vSAN, that it happened almost instantly whereas, in the past, migrating from array to array was an arduous and fraught process."

Cons
"The solution could improve by having fewer VM Stuns.""Needs integration with video CD (coming in the next release) and a multi-tenant GUI.""When errors do occur, it can be a somewhat painful process to get to the bottom of issues.""It needs to support more applications natively, like MySQL/MariaDB.""The deployment and configuration of the backup service is something that could be streamlined a little bit, particularly when you're trying to do a SQL workload. You have to install a backup service on the server. You only have to do it once and then you're done, but you have to do that on every server that you want to protect.""There is room for improvement through a further extension of their Office 365 backup platform. In addition, it's still a bit cost-prohibitive to backup NAS. Those would be the two primary areas for improvement.""User interface could be improved.""I don't like Rubrik's user interface because it's not intuitive, and I find it hard to get the information I need."

More Rubrik Cons →

"This is quite an expensive solution.""Dedupe in non flash drives can be improved.""It could have some automation. We haven't involved ourselves in a lot of automation around the vSAN environment capabilities. We're still running it using a very traditional setup. So, there could be some plugins to automate it using third-party environments, such as Jenkins.""If the support could be provided more quickly, it would be very helpful.""The biggest room for improvement I see in vSAN is the lack of SAN connectivity. I've kind of joked around that there is no "SAN" in vSAN. And it's something that we've worked to try and introduce some options for, and we're going to continue to work towards that.""The updating process could be easier.""We would like to see even more storage capacity.""Virtual machines disk size cannot cap more than a single node. For a VDI user, it may not save enough to hold a file server or exchange server on a single node storage space."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Rubrik users.

PeerSpot user Chadd B., System Administrator at a manufacturing company, says, “The solution is easy to use with an intuitive web interface, helpful support, good performance, and saves us time. The most valuable feature is the Instant Recovery, where we can restore a VM or SQL database or any server or application, and have it up and running on their appliance within a few seconds. The VM backup and the SQL backup are blazingly fast for both backup and recovery.”

A Storage Administrator at a healthcare company explains that the solution “Cut our backup management time significantly, and the near-instant recovery reduces our downtime. He also comments that “The scalability is wonderful. That is one of our biggest advantages with this.”

Burhan S., Systems Engineer at Harvard University, mentions, "There is a live-restore feature, their Live Mount, and the way it works we can instantly recover a VM, a past backup, to be directly attached to our VMware environment. Rubrik will act as a disk for it. It's like an instant restore. Within a few minutes our VM is up and running. And then, if we want to restore it, we can just migrate it to our actual storage."

Kevin M., Head Of Operations at University of Reading, states, “The solution’s SLA-based functionality means we don't have to manually manage backup windows, and recovery times have been notably reduced. Its web interface is really easy to use. It's just click and go. It's fast and intuitive. We've never had any problems in navigating.”

VMware vSAN is a software-defined storage product that is used in collaboration with VMware ESXi hypervisor and that provisions and manages storage based on policies, regardless of the underlying hardware. Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by PeerSpot users currently using the VMware vSAN solution.

PeerSpot user Yves S., CEO, Cloud Evangelist at Comdivision Consulting GmbH, says, “vSAN gives us a lot of advantages when we need to expand resources. We have an overall larger host infrastructure, and we split that up for specific customer test and use cases. In that specific scenario, we can easily add more hosts or reduce the number of hosts in the environment.”
