We performed a comparison between Rubrik and Veritas Backup Exec based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Backup and Recovery solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The system is able to determine when it is the best time to do backups. This is SLA-driven, and if it is not possible to maintain this SLA, the system will tell you too."
"What I like about Rubrik is that you can back up to the cloud. It is a different kind of backup where you're not archiving the tape. Rubrik is a physical appliance. It is a dedicated appliance to which you can back up, and you can also back up to another device. So, you can back up to Rubrik and then to another device. If you have more than one site, you can set up Rubrik on site A and also on site B. You can back up to the Rubrik on site A and then replicate that data to the Rubrik on site B."
"The fact that the API is so available to us with the playground — there's an internal and public playground — is also valuable. We can write API calls — and although I'm sure there's a way we could hurt the data — we write those calls with a lot of certainty that we won't be destroying anything. We write these API calls using really easy mechanisms and generate automation a lot faster."
"The live mounting and compatibility of different operating systems is great."
"The most valuable feature of Rubrik for me is its user-friendliness and efficiency."
"Not having to specify a time to run a backup with a fixed schedule is something that's really beneficial. In the past we had to schedule and try to manually stagger things over the window, to back up everything. Because Rubrik is SLA-based, you say, "Well, I need it to fit in this window here," and it just backs it up when it's most convenient for the Brik and for the third-party system. It looks at the CPU usage and says, "Okay, it's not as busy now. I know I've got time to take the backup." That's a real advantage."
"The Auto-Snapshot SLA feature and recovery time are amazing. It took seven seconds to have a server back up and running in production from a total failure."
"Management is so simple that anyone can check the backups and do restores when necessary."
"The product's most valuable feature is scalability."
"It is a good overall suite of products."
"This solution has a very good technical support department that is very responsive."
"I have not seen another backup solution as scalable as this one."
"It is a good backup tool."
"The product allows for versatile storage options, enabling users to store data on disk storage, NAS storage, or tape libraries."
"The solution is very scalable. Whenever we grew, it was just a matter of adding new licenses, so it's easy to grow."
"The disk-to-disk paid backup feature is quite good, and file locking is a very important feature."
"It does not offer image-level backups for Hyper-V 2012."
"Rubrik could improve in customization options for dashboards."
"Pricing is something that needs to be considered for improvement."
"The open source database needs to be supported."
"The only thing that can be improved is catering for open source databases because at the moment it doesn't cater for Mongo, MySQL, and Postgres."
"Lacks availability in a NFR format of virtual appliances to test them in public cloud environment."
"The dashboard and user interface could be improved to make them more user-friendly."
"If there was something that we could get Rubrik to fix, it would be when our DBS takes snapshots of a server or the database, the replication doesn't kick off fast enough. They can't remote it to the peer site and manipulate it back up in order to move it over, take a copy of production, slap it over, and test it out. As I understand, they are working on it. Replication works. We also get spoiled by how good things are now. We get to a point where it is so easy but when something isn't instant gratification, it seems that everything else is so amazing, why isn't this right?"
"The price of this solution is very high."
"Currently, the solution does not have the capability to restore a single mailbox, so you lose a lot of time having to restore for example ten mailboxes just to recover one."
"They can work on the issue of the job timing out when it is unable to reach a selection item. It sometimes hangs up on the selection item, thus preventing the job from continuing."
"The solution could improve and adapt to new applications in the market so we can integrate Veritas Backup Exec with them to facilitate backup processes within these applications."
"They could include backup functionality for enterprise environments."
"In terms of improvements, I think the pricing model could be improved. They charge you by port, for every port that you have even if you're not using all of them."
"I would like to improve their ability to back up the cloud environment. Additionally, it would be nice to have simpler UI."
"There are some issues with the Backup Exec Library and the random picking of tapes."
