Good SMTP archiving, great at integrating with other solutions, and compatible with other storage types
Pros and Cons
  • "The integration capabilities are second to none."
  • "The file-level archiving is very important in Enterprise Vault 12 and this doesn't really exist in early versions."

What is our primary use case?

We have deployed Enterprise Vault's latest version on our on-premises servers. We use it to migrate the existing data from another version to the newest version.

What is most valuable?

The features that we really like are SMTP archiving, and classification. The solution performs indexing very well.

In version 12, we can search for a text on the image. This is one of the new features on Enterprise Vault 12. It's great that we can search for text, for the purposes of image archiving.

The integration capabilities are second to none.

The solution has great compatibility with many different types of storage.

What needs improvement?

In version 11, there aren't many features about SMTP archiving or giving it support.

There was one earlier version, Enterprise Vault 10, that was 32-bit indexing. Enterprise Vault from 11 onwards is 64-bit indexing.

The file-level archiving is very important in Enterprise Vault 12 and this doesn't really exist in early versions.

In the future, it would be ideal if it could be integrated with the cloud at high availability. Enterprise Vault is an Active/Passive node. It doesn't provide high availability with Active/Active. In future versions, if Active/Active could be achieved, we could consider it capable of high availability and load balancing as well.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this for more than 10 years, for different clients within my company.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is great. In terms of server hardware, performance, and the load, it's quite reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability depends on a few different factors, such as the data, and it's requirements. We need to figure out if the customer wants the data to be stored for five years or ten years and we need to figure out how much storage will be needed now and into the future. It's possible to scale, however.

We have about 5,000-10,000 users within our organization. They would all need to have their mailboxes archived, for example.

How are customer service and support?

Our organization provides technical support for Enterprise Vault. We have the ability to work on any Enterprise Vault issues from level One to Four. In a worst-case scenario, we may need to go into SQL scripts to gather more information.

How was the initial setup?

We have complex environments, where the clients have the data of more than 100 terabytes. We deployed successfully, and we migrated data successfully. That said, due to the fact that our environment is complex, the initial implementation wasn't necessarily straightforward.

The maintenance requirements depend upon the features of Enterprise Vault. If it is using for end-user mailbox archiving, yes, we may have some issues from the end-users, and if it is only for a general archiving data, the maintenance is less.

What about the implementation team?

I handled the implementation myself, from scratch. I did the designing, development, deployment to the servers, configuration, and migration.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The main cost for the Enterprise Vault is a mailbox cost. For example, we need to know how many mailboxes we need to get archived as there is a charge per mailbox.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have so many products, including Commvault and other products. That said, we identified Enterprise Vault as the best option for integrating with different products and different features. For example, it's integrated with the other email servers like Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Exchange. It's integrated with other backup servers such as NetBackup and MCT Backup. It's integrated with SQL. So we can't find any other product that has this level of integration capabilities and features.

What other advice do I have?

We're Veritas customers. We don't have a special relationship with the company.

The solution has been deployed on on-premise and virtual servers as well, both on physical as well as virtual servers. I've been working with a variety of different deployment models. I've worked with the solution from version 9 all the way through to 12.

I'd advise those considering using the solution to look at their requirements in terms of scaling, data compatibility, and data integration. These all need to be considered before choosing a product.

Overall, I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. If it offered high availability, I would rank it higher.

An excellent product for archiving and securing emails
Pros and Cons
  • "Enterprise is a user-friendly product."
  • "The stability could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

The product is very useful for archiving emails. I didn't use the file archive solution much, but it's a very useful tool for emails because it keeps all the emails on each site and Exchange's usage. If one has a large environment for Exchange, they can keep their emails on Enterprise Vault because it is singularly used for emails.

What is most valuable?

Enterprise is a user-friendly product. It's a bit of a hard product on the technical side rather than the end user side, but if they understand how it works, it's a very easy solution.

What needs improvement?

The stability could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I worked with Enterprise Vault for almost six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate Enterprise Vault's stability a six or seven out of ten because it's not an "install and forget" product. We have to do the maintenance daily.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Enterprise Vault is scalable. The previous company I worked at that used Enterprise Vault was small, and we were Veritas partners.

How are customer service and support?

When customers had a problem we couldn't solve, we opened vendor tickets. I spoke to Veritas engineers. Customers did not communicate with them because they didn't want to, because some users do not speak English, for example. In those cases, I needed to do the translation. Veritas gives support for 100 users to 10,000 users.

How was the initial setup?

Enterprise is a very easy product to set up, but I find it easy because I've used it for almost six years as a consultant and handled many installations and technical problems.

We can use this product if we use an Exchange server or a Domino server. But we cannot have mail archives without another server, such as Zimbra or any other email solution. We can only use it for journal archives.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Enterprise Vault is a little bit expensive. Normally, our customers renew their licenses yearly.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Veritas Enterprise Vault an eight out of ten.

If you want to manage your emails and analyze them, it's a good product. It is good for analyzing because you can use the GTPR solution and track who wrote emails to whom, seeing if anyone is sending secret information through email. You can also track communication between all-time users. If someone sent a mail five years ago and needs to find it, you 100% find it with Enterprise Vault. It's a good product.

Affordable and reliable with a helpful search feature
Pros and Cons
  • "The stability is excellent."
  • "Dealing with personal information, such as documents that contain a personal number, personal ID or something like that should be improved. Sometimes it works poorly in that regard."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for email and file archiving. We also use it for the classification of international regulations.

What is most valuable?

The search feature is the most valuable aspect of the solution.

The solution is pretty scalable.

The stability is good.

The product is quite affordable.

What needs improvement?

Dealing with personal information, such as documents that contain a personal number, personal ID or something like that should be improved. Sometimes it works poorly in that regard. It depends on the accuracy of the picture, PDF file, or format. Maybe with other OCR tools, the results will be better.

While a lot of this depends on Microsoft, I'd like to see more integration. I'd like more of the product as a feature instead of a second product. In the future, we'd like to have the same structure of folders that we have in Microsoft 365.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for around three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is excellent. I'd rate it five out of five. There were no bugs or glitches and it didn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I found the solution to be scalable. Expanding it wasn't a problem.

We had about 6,000 people on it in the organization. Our entire company was on it.

How are customer service and support?

I never personally reached out to technical support and therefore would d not be able to speak on how helpful they would be if you had any issues.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup offers a moderate amount of difficulty. It's not overly complex. I'd rate it a four out of five in terms of ease of deployment. The deployment itself takes about two weeks.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price for Enterprise Vault is around €100 per user. That is for one license for one year and includes support. I would rate the solution a four out of five in terms of affordability.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate the product nine out of ten. I've been pretty satisfied with its capabilities overall.

User-friendly for accessing mail archives and good for log backups and mail archiving
Pros and Cons
  • "User behavior is very smooth."
  • "The deployment phase is very hard."

What is our primary use case?

The use cases for Enterprise Vault are data archiving, log backup, mail archiving and saving data space from the current environment.

The main purpose is data archiving: log backups and mail archiving. It can also be used for logs for previous access management and database.

How has it helped my organization?

Veritas Enterprise Vault does support object storage usage. Mail archiving is the primary need. You can also explore file archiving if you use a file server.

The data retention policies depend on the corporation and the regulations. Non-governance requires ten years of retention, while other non-regulated sectors typically require five years.

What is most valuable?

Veritas Enterprise Vault is very user-friendly for accessing mail archives because it is just a shortcut in Outlook or other mail clients. It can be used with an inactive server. User behavior is very smooth.

What needs improvement?

The troubleshooting process is very hard. If there is a problem, the entire team needs to get involved to solve the issue. It is a very complex product, and Veritas engineers should be more agile in supporting cases.

Nothing is easy to manage. It is very complex.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it since 2016.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a very sensitive product. For example, if you restart Enterprise Vault, which is located on different servers, it takes time to activate all system components.

If you don't touch it, it's working fine.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There are over 250 end users.

How was the initial setup?

If you want to use best practices, then the setup takes a long time. It's very relevant. The best practice is to use a cluster structure.

The deploying and implementation phase takes a minimum of two or three weeks to complete.

The deployment phase is very hard because a special client version is needed to plug in on the client side. For example, if a client doesn't access their archive mail, it becomes a crucial issue on the server side, and it takes a long time to resolve. It is a very long process.

What was our ROI?

The benefit is a reduced database size on your main server. This means you can manage your main server more easily, with less latency.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is very high.

What other advice do I have?

There is no competition in the product family like Veritas Enterprise Vault. It runs very well. I would give it an eight out of ten.

My advice would be: If you have 1000 end users and very large mailboxes, and you need to make sure the mail server is always available and working within your SLA claims, Enterprise Vault is really useful. It can also manage this process, but it depends on your users and processes.

It allows us to keep more of our emails for a longer amount of time because when it archives our old emails, it deletes them and places a small short cut in its place.

Valuable Features

Email archiving is the most valuable because it frees up space in our Exchange servers dramatically. Improvements to My Organization

It allows us to keep more of our emails for a longer amount of time because when it archives our old emails, it deletes them and places a small short cut in its place. This also frees up much needed space on our hard drives within our Exchange servers.
