We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Its event management capabilities are very open and flexible. I haven't seen a use case scenario with a customer that we couldn't actually solve the problem for, so it's really good. There are some interesting things that happen in an enterprise network (things that people don't normally expect), and the event management product is very flexible. You can solve problems as far as your imagination can go with it.""The major advantage of the product is estate management.""The solution provides visibility to our infrastructure, how it is, the resources we are monitoring, and quick updates when it has any problems. We have integrated it with ServiceNow to open instances.""I believe that the ease of use and UI is great""The most valuable feature of BMC TrueSight Operations Management is the dashboard presentation server.""The most valuable features of the solution are alert management, alert generation, and event management.""It has provided us with a single location to host all events to be viewed/monitored by our NOC. This has greatly helped them to streamline their processes.""Intelligent solution with a proactive monitoring feature and consolidated dashboard that's stable and easy to scale."

"Provides the strongest support for automation.""The OneView Global Dashboard is very user-friendly and it can be used for monitoring the power consumption and temperature of the data center and racks.""It's rather simple to use, and that's very important for us.""Deploys faster new virtual services.""The easy user interface was what I found most valuable in HPE OneView. For example, if I wanted to know the infrastructure status or I needed to send in any change commands, HPE OneView had simple buttons.""Easy to add servers and get them monitored and manageable.""Gives the business interfaces to view real-time pictures of IT business services.""The solution's initial setup process was easy...The technical support is good...It is a stable product, and we will use it for a long time."

Cons
"This solution is lacking in application monitoring features. Technical support for this solution also needs improvement, particularly in product knowledge and response time.""Deployment requires lots of resources (servers). It has too many consoles.""More modules for less popular applications and better documentation.""The solution could improve its price.""The UI for the end users could be improved and more flexible than it is now.""In our company, we faced some issues with the solution’s application endpoint, IP, and the physical location of the transactions.""The solution is overly complex.""Application performance management (APM) is an area with certain shortcomings in the solution that needs improvement. I"

"It's a little slow sometimes. Overall, I think it does what it's supposed to do. I think that as they evolve it, it'll get quicker.""They can improve reporting and provide more customized reports. Currently, reporting is a bit limited. It can be complex to learn and manage for beginners. Because of my experience, I find it comfortable to manage, which might not be the case with beginners. It would be good if they can make it a little bit easier to understand. They can provide a more graphical view of connectivity and other things. Their technical support can also be improved.""The network configuration part of HPE OneView needs improvement. The solution has way too many features, and there's a need for proper configuration indicators to be put in place.""I have to chop it up into smaller parts, because I have an installation in Europe and it covers the whole world. That is not so good. They need to be more localized, so I am going to chop it up into smaller bits.""I would like to see support for things that aren't in the current generation. We have a lot of 7th and 8th generation hardware.""Those features, coming in version 4, that we're looking for are the discovery, primarily. But I think the scope-based access control is of interest, although, we didn't see any directory integration, so that, in itself, seems like it's still limited.""Integration could be improved. Sometimes OneView doesn't identify physical hardware.""The speed and performance of the solution are areas where the product lacks and needs improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Use conservative figures. In terms of hardware, monitored servers and also effort. The product is not cheap. But as with other products, you get what you pay for."
  • "The solutions are not the cheapest but are robust and stable. License model is rather complex and BMC do often change the model."
  • "Pricing is very high."
  • "We pay license fees of between $150 and $200 per asset. There is an enterprise software license fee, and then you pay a percentage for your maintenance, and then Premier Support. For example, if you buy a two-year license for the product, then the maintenance fee is added to that for two years at X percent a year. Then there's a small fee on top of that for Premier Support..."
  • "Pricing is all volume-driven. I think we were paying between $80 and $85 per license. That's per unit, for a perpetual license. You pay it one time and then, every year, you pay 20 percent of that for annual maintenance and support. But now that we've grown, we've purchased tens of thousands of licenses and the cost per license has gone down to something like less than $30..."
  • "It is a large, complex product. So, there is a commitment of manpower to deploy it, as it is not a cheap product."
  • "There is a big upfront cost when you buy the license, then there is annual maintenance. We look at, if I bought a license and paid for maintenance for five years, then average it out, what would be my monthly cost. We have had some of the competing tools come in around four dollars. This is coming in as a premium, which is why I don't have it deployed as I would like it. Therefore, we're in negotiations right now. If I can get it down to the four dollar range, I will triple my deployment in a year and a half."
  • "The only possible additional cost that I can mention, that you might not be aware of, is that it uses Oracle partitioning, if you use Oracle. There are Oracle partitioning fees that go with that."

  • "HPE had some other solutions, but they were actually quite expensive to buy. So, when OneView came along, it was kind of reasonable in terms of price for licenses, etc."
  • "Use it. It is free."
  • "I am happy with the price."
  • "HPE could lower the price."
  • "I think that the price of OneView is $500 USD per server, which is a little high."
  • "The solution is free to use, but if you want the management aspect you require a virtual machine such as C7000 or Synergy which require licenses."
  • "Synergy does not require iLO licenses but servers and enclosures must be purchased."
  • "This license cost for OneView was $3,000 USD."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by BMC TrueSight Operations Management users.

Mudassir A., Sr. Technical Consultant at a tech services company, says, "The event management part of TrueSight Operations Management, in my experience, is probably the best in the market. You have endless flexibility. You can build your own rules, you have the MRL language, and you can implement any kind of logic on the alerts. It may be correlation, abstraction, or executing something as a result of the alerts. You have almost the whole range of options available for event management using the available customization."

A General Manager - Sales at a tech services company explains, “There are many features that are most valuable in BMC TrueSight Operations Management. First, its proactive monitoring feature is highly developed. BMC TrueSight Operations Management is an intelligent tool that's able to understand day-to-day operations and consistently gives alerts. The alerts are not automatic for some activities, e.g. some alerts are given monthly, while some are given more frequently. The consolidated dashboard where you can enjoy a single pane of glass to look at the full infrastructure from the servers to the VMs, to the clouds, to the application, to the database, to the network devices, including having a topology, and having a tendency map of the topology of key offerings, is also a valuable feature of this solution.”

An Information Systems Computer System Controller at an insurance company states, “The business event manager tool that consolidates detailed information from a single instance of equipment is the most valuable thing for me. It provides support for the business tools and the IT services which come from several systems.”
