We performed a comparison between Sophos Cyberoam UTM and Sophos XG based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Firewalls solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The reporting you receive out of this appliance is excellent. You will not need an external management system."
"The virtual firewall feature is the most valuable. We have around 1,500 firewalls. We did not buy individual hardware, and the virtual firewalls made sense because we don't have to keep on buying the hardware. FortiGate is easier to use as compared to Checkpoint devices. It is user friendly and has a good UI. You don't need much expertise to work on this firewall. You don't need to worry much about DCLA, commands, and things like that."
"With FortiClient, you can easily connect when you are home, check out what you want to do, and connect to your network when you are not at work. You can switch on servers and you can check what is wrong."
"The interface is very user-friendly and I like it very much."
"The solution is extremely reliable."
"It's very easy to set up, it's very easy to make policies and, for an organization, that means you don't need IT expert in firewalls. You just need to have somebody who knows a little bit of IT, and that's it. With other products, you need someone with a "Masters" degree in firewalls."
"FortiGate is on the cheaper end, and it offers good value."
"The pipe filter application is an outstanding feature."
"The user interface is well laid out and understandable."
"Web and content filtering are valuable in preventing people from abusing the network and pushing up the bandwidth price."
"The most valuable features are the firewall section, the VPN, and how you control live users."
"The most valuable feature is the IPSec forwarding."
"The firewall feature has different branches, such as extended firewalls."
"Our customers find it economical and offers good security. These two features are key. Ease of installation and implementation are also key factors."
"The performance has been good overall."
"We have never had to restart a firewall. The firewalls have all worked perfectly fine."
"The initial setup was straightforward."
"Sophos XG Firewall is very usable, very easy to install, and very user friendly."
"Sophos offers great disk encryption, anti protection, and the interface is very user-friendly."
"The stability of Sophos XG is very good. However, there have been some issues with other weaker models because they are limited in hardware in resources."
"This solution does everything and anything a firewall can do."
"I've tried out Sophos XG a little. It has a good interface that's very user-friendly, but I haven't used all of its functions because I'm only configuring and running the system."
"A valuable feature involves the solution's manageability."
"Sophos firewalls are scalable. They are pretty strong in security. So, when they provide any kind of firewall, they provide all the features such as anti-spam, antivirus, etc."
"I would like to see a more intuitive dashboard."
"Fortinet Fortigate could benefit by simplifying some of their processes."
"We'd like more management across other integrations."
"When we cluster the two Fortinet FortiGate boxes together we have some issues."
"FortiGate is really good. We have been using it for quite some time. Initially, when we started off, we had around 70 plus devices of FortiGate, but then Check Point and Palo Alto took over the place. From the product perspective, there are no issues, but from the account perspective, we have had issues. Fortinet's presence in our company is very less. I don't see any Fortinet account managers talking to us, and that presence has diluted in the last two and a half or three years. We have close to 1,500 firewalls. Out of these, 60% of firewalls are from Palo Alto, and a few firewalls are from Check Point. FortiGate firewalls are very less now. It is not because of the product; it is because of the relationship. I don't think they had a good relationship with us, and there was some kind of disconnect for a very long time. The relationship between their accounts team and my leadership team seems to be the reason for phasing out FortiGate."
"There are a lot of bugs I have found in the solution and it is difficult to upgrade. These areas need improvement."
"There are SD-WAN network monitoring, SD-WAN features, Industrial Databases, Internet of Things, Detection, etc., however, we do have not licenses for those features. We thought that if you bought a product, you should have all of the features it offers. Why should you need to make so many extra purchases to enable features? They should have one price for the entire offering."
"A lack of integration between our data centers."
"There is a lot or room for improvement, because it is still not a fourth or fifth generation firewall. It lacks security features."
"Its scalability is not that great."
"Cyberoam UTM needs to have more certifications with third-parties, such as NSS Labs."
"The policy is a bit too vague."
"Sophos Cyberoam UTM could improve by adding VPN site-to-site capabilities. The correct version does not work with Microsoft Azure Cloud."
"In my experience the solution can be easier to configure with more documentation, we need more training."
"The technical support response time could be faster."
"The solution is at its end of life and some of the appliances are finishing."
"I would like to have better SSL decryption and HTTP decryption. There should be filtering of SSL and HTTP traffic. Sophos XG consumes a lot of endpoint resources. It consumes a lot of RAM and CPU resources, and they should look into this."
"I would prefer if Sophos XG were cheaper. A lower price would benefit me as a system provider for the end customer. The cost of the license and renewal for all the software and devices is somewhat high."
"SD-WAN would benefit from further improvement, particularly in terms of incorporating optimization techniques that are not typically found in traditional firewalls. Nowadays, WAN optimization features are being integrated into many firewalls, and implementing similar capabilities in SD-WAN would enhance its performance and functionality."
"The number of ports, especially on the entry-level appliances, should be increased."
"The first area that needs to be improved is customer support."
"The support service level agreement in regard to the amount of time needed to upgrade things is too low. It should be higher."
"There are issues with electricity with this solution."
"Integration with Active Directory is not reliable."
