We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is very straightforward to set up.""One of the best features is the support, which is excellent.""The most valuable features of this solution are its ease of use and performance.""The high availability of the product is the most valuable feature.""The most valuable feature of this solution is reliability.""Pure FlashArray X NVMe will quickly overcome all the hurdles you face, including network and latency issues.""The initial setup was extremely simple and straightforward.""It's helped us because we've changed fundamentally what we talk about. We don't talk about storage and different tiers of storage anymore nor do we talk about servers. We talk now about applications and how applications impact the business and end users."

"The valuable features for data management include deduplication and compression without performance impact, and the ability to virtualize old storage, making migration seamless.""It's best features are its reliability and stability.""The solution provides excellent scalability.""The active-active option seemed to be working well and overall, it was a solid product.""Its scalability and performance are the most valuable. It is quite scalable and has a huge capacity.""The most valuable features are external storage virtualization and the 100 percent data guaranteed availability.""The performance was decent.""We have many different types of replication, such as remote and drop local replication. All these features and licenses are already available. These are basic features available in the current model. Additionally, the performance has been good in our experience."

"This is an all-flash storage array. It is the best solution for large batch processing. There are some customer databases that have tens of millions of records in one large database. That's where VIOLIN performs the best. VIOLIN stands out for million of IOPS with ultra-low latency. VIOLIN can provide about two million IOPS in a 3U unit. We have a latency of less than one millisecond."

Cons
"The tool's pricing is higher than competitors.""We need better data deduplication.""The UI for this solution needs to be improved.""Right now, the box itself is just strictly working as a backend storage system. It would be fantastic if we could access it directly like a NAS device through network access or SIS drives. I think they have an interface, but I am not sure how good it is. If we could address a box directly on the network without having to go through a server, it would be great. The replication schemas could be improved. We are not using replication on the storage level right now. We use a different type of replication. If their replication would be as good as the one that we have, I would probably run the replication schema because it might be faster, but I don't know that for a fact. So, I cannot say that they have good replication. All I can say is that they need to inform us better.""We have run into a couple of instances recently where we are running out of space. So we have had to buy some more packs for it and they have deployed fine and it has increased smoothly.""There is room for improvement in catering to midrange storage needs, especially for customers seeking Enterprise-class features.""If the customer only needs 500 terabytes and doesn't care how much data they'll put in the server, IBM is cheaper than Pure.""Efficiency improvements would always be welcome, but I'm not sure if they could get more efficient."

"The Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform faces challenges when it comes to features like deduplication and compression. Enabling these features can lead to processor overload, resulting in performance degradation, especially under high loads.""They should look at the cost because there are other vendors who offer the same cost with more features.""For mission critical issues the performance is low.""The installation procedure it a bit difficult, because it is a high-end solution. With this type of product, the original company is interested in doing the setup for customers in the area, but because of sanctions we were not able to get support in our area. We faced many issued trying to learn to run this product.""In terms of new features, I would be interested to see deduplication added in their next release.""Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform needs to improve its scalability options where there are a few shortcomings.""The user interface should be made simpler because it is difficult to manage.""For the support windows to work, maybe they have to upgrade the firmware of the VSP. They changed the hardware or the disk. I don't know if it was the port blade they changed or a VM for a memory cache. Also, replacing the old target with the processor target would be fine. The old equipment is very easy to manage, and I don't have any bad commentary."

"Its overall usability can be improved. It takes some time to know small things here and there to make sure it is working properly."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."

  • "The pricing we get is very competitive when compared to other vendors. Hitachi is working on their licensing model and it is improving but can be irksome when many different items are not bundled or enterprise size."
  • "Our main issue with the Hitachi G-Series is what we consider to be an archaic software licensing scheme and high maintenance costs."
  • "It is a little expensive."
  • "I would like to see better pricing and more discounts."
  • "Pricing could be better, because the cost is very high."
  • "This solution is cheaper than Dell EMC VMAX. When you are looking for a high-end solution, price matters, but availability and stability are more important than the price."
  • "This is an expensive solution."
  • "When you are looking for high-end solutions such as this, price is less important than stability and availability."
  • More Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Software licensing is a part of the hardware. There is no separate software license. When you purchase the hardware, it has everything included. It has a one-time initial purchase fee. There is also the annual maintenance and the support maintenance cost. Support and maintenance are a part of the new hardware during the initial one year or three years. After that, support and maintenance are optional."
