Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is easy to use for management and operations teams because the tools are in one place.""The most valuable feature is the overall integration and just seeing the three different layers which make up the machine software. Altogether, it's something that I would say is much better than any other solution that I have experienced before.""The most valuable feature of this solution is integration.""The integration with AWS is a valuable feature.""The setup was very straightforward.""We've had no issues with scaling the solution.""The solution was connected to alternate storage. It provides great scalability and reliability.""The solution is scalable."

"The installation of StarWind Virtual SAN was pretty easy, and the configuration was done in no time.""The best part is the easy way it operates with a very clear GUI without any unnecessary items.""Without the need for any downtime, enterprises can simply grow their storage infrastructure using StarWind Virtual SAN by adding new servers or disks to the current infrastructure.""It enables us to provide more solution options for our clients, with the reassurance that, when implemented, they will be efficient and stable.""This product now allows us to migrate virtual machines between nodes as if we had a dedicated $100,000 SAN in the mix without the additional cost and management of the SAN.""StarWind vSAN has allowed us to leverage our server infrastructure more completely without the need to add more hardware.""We are able to do maintenance by bringing down one node at a time, rather than having to schedule a complete shutdown.""I like StarWind's high availability. The failover is almost immediate, so the end users have no idea the guest VM moved at all. We can failover all guest VMs onto a single hypervisor, place it into maintenance mode, install updates, and reboot a hypervisor all during the daytime and remotely, with confidence the process will be successful."

Cons
"Exporting data from the dashboard is not very user-friendly. It's just designed in a way that it's going to cover let's say 90%, 80%, of the end-users needs. If you need more sophisticated reporting it's not easy to have.""We've had some issues around the licensing.""The support of containers needs to be improved. At present, it is limited to VMware. There needs to be direct communication with the hardware rather than through a hypervisor.""It would be great to get earlier access to beta builds because we have to develop providers on our own. The APIs and enablers for custom automation could also be improved.""The solution needs to offer more documentation and educational materials.""I think there might be some room for improvement when it comes to pricing, because although I know how to convert customers, at the end of day, it's quite expensive. Sometimes your feature architecture is still coming out much cheaper than hardware costs for your infrastructure.""Needs some more monitoring tools.""Compared to similar solutions, Dell PowerFlex is not cost-effective and has room for improvement."

More Dell PowerFlex Cons →

"I'd love to see more clarification for us folks who are smart enough to do some damage yet not smart enough to use CLI.""The logs can also become very noisy when there is an issue, which is very infrequent.""It would be nice if we could designate pools, or tiers, for storage of different speeds, and then assign rules to new VMs that would automatically place them into the proper pool.""I would like to see some additional, and possibly clearer, implementation videos with some slower and possibly more detailed descriptions of what the various steps of implementation are for someone who is unfamiliar with high availability and failover clustering in Windows.""Perhaps the developer should refine the product management through PowerShell.""Sometimes documentation on their site can be out of date.""There is no Italian-language version of the software available.""While we had no problems setting the system up, and service technicians from StarWind could assist us very well, they could provide some form of in-depth documentation."

  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."
