Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is very durable and that is particularly important.""The cost was the main reason we chose to use this solution.""The most valuable features are its scalability and Amazon S3 compatibility because we can move back and forth with a hybrid cloud.""The tool has S3 capability. Its scalability is excellent. From a security and encryption perspective, the solution supports SSL encryption. It is a seamless solution offering data encryption, quality service, and security encryption."

"StorageGRID is designed for cloud-based, highly scalable storage. Think big names like service providers like Google who need massive storage volumes with scalability. It also offers cloud-enabled storage capabilities with cloud management functionality. So, if you prioritize scalability and cloud integration, StorageGRID is the way to go. Its object-based storage is built specifically for that purpose.""It has improved our operational efficiency through time consumption and logistics by 40 to 50 percent. Everything that had to do with our legacy tape solution has been improved and is now more efficient.""The feature of StorageGRID that I find most valuable for ensuring data durability and protection is its Information Lifecycle Management functionality.""The implementation with NetApp went smoothly. It is a 'setup and forget' type of appliance.""Cost-effective and easy to deploy.""Right now, we have an older StorageGRID. I like that we can grow it.""It has awesome scalability. We consume it with storage appliance nodes, then we just plug and play as we need more.""It improves our operational efficiency."

Cons
"As it is an S3 solution with the same protocol as the one we have with AWS, having better integration with AWS will be beneficial.""Cloudian HyperStore needs to incorporate AI and predictive analysis. It would be helpful if the solution could analyze and predict how to manage data better. The end users should not have access to protected documents. They should be able to drop the documents. The capacity management dashboard can be better. We also want two-factor authentication using Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator as MFA. Hence, the user would access the console not just by logging in with a password and username but with third-party applications as well.""It is a cloud-based environment and at times, it is not very simple to use."

"I just recommend improving the marketing campaigns in Pakistan.""There was a small amount of confusion when working with StorageGRID and Active Directory for access. We had to do things three to four times resulting in our engineer troubleshooting a couple of things. The location of the menu, along with what is inside the menu: configurations, settings, etc., is not straightforward to users. Most users are Windows-based. So, when make logical changes to the menu which are not similar to Windows, users and administrators get confused.""The only real issue that we have run into is, when we are cloning, we cannot do a thin provision clone, it has to be a full clone.""Improvements need to be made in the support area.""Beyond the initial setup, this product is a little bit difficult to configure.""I would like to see them integrate more with the monitoring platforms. It is a bit difficult to get automated monitoring of the system.""The redundancy and reliability are great, but I also see room for improvement there. I would like to see more efficiency in the storage and dedupe/compression solutions.""The processes around installation and upgrade need improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Our fees are approximately half a dollar per gigabyte."
  • "The solution is cheap."
  • More Cloudian HyperStore Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The price is attractive."
  • "We chose NetApp because of price and performance."
  • "While we have been able to save money on storage costs, it could be better."
  • "The licensing that the S3 service provides them from a FabricPool standpoint is more attractive than the licensing from AWS or Azure."
  • "We save money on storage costs from this solution since it allows us to have a source of revenue from customers consuming the service."
  • "Creating your own data stores, backups, or storage grids, helps eliminate all these costs of downloading all the data back after you downloaded to the cloud."
  • "Buying the solution is expensive, but it saves you money down the line when you factor in the logistics of not having to buy tapes."
  • "NetApp is not known for being the cheapest storage option on the market. Almost all of the other storage options we looked at were less expensive than StorageGRID. The price is one thing to criticize, which is what we hear internally and from customers as well. They find the cost of the terabytes in this class of storage a little bit higher than expected."
