Pros
"The solution has good performance.""It's an ideal gateway solution for small and medium businesses, i.e., around 300 devices can be easily handled."

"What's best about Cisco Cloud Services Router is the support. It's excellent, and so far, no significant challenges. Another valuable feature of the product is easy integration with other products.""It allowed us to create a more secure VPN than we would have been able to do without it.""It provides peace of mind because it is a stable product that you aren't going to lose sleep over at night wondering if it will be running or not.""The most valuable feature of the Cisco Cloud Services Router is it can make your migrations smooth. For example, if you want to migrate to the cloud, but you don't want to change the IP. You can extend your VLAN from on-premise to the cloud without having to change the IP.""It connects all the accounts with the weaknesses, and this is what we were looking for. Also, it connects with the on-premise side.""The bandwidth and throughput are pretty good.""It handles stress very well. We have not reached a point of needing to worry about its capabilities.""This solution is scalable."

"This solution is easy to configure and it's very flexible.""I think they have very strong routers because they have multiple processors. I like its easy configuration with applications. For example, configuration with Linux, Iptables, and routing protocols.""They use wireless and wired connections that include all of the features.""They are stable.""They have amazing speed and reliability, and they also provide value for money. They are pretty powerful.""One of the primary advantages is its competitive pricing in the market.""The most valuable feature is the ease of use.""The cost and versatility are the solution's most valuable features. You can do anything with them if you know how to. The solution has a whole portfolio of routing features available."

Cons
"There must be a more easy-to-use GUI."

More Netgate TNSR Cons →

"They have an online registration that happens after they pick up block months. If they could decrease to yearly or something, sometimes the device is not cell phone accessible. That becomes an issue or challenge for us. If that can be improved, that would be really great.""The ease of use within the AWS environment needs to improve. Sometimes, it is very esoteric in how you use it. Therefore, you have to learn to use it, then you are able to.""The initial setup is easy for one device but is more complex when numerous devices need to be configured.""It could grow or adapt to changes in the cloud. For example, cloud does not support autoscaling. When people want to grow, they have to do manual activities.""If you lose connectivity to the cloud, it is difficult to establish connectivity between hub and spoke.""Technical support could be better. I am missing a single pane of glass, where I can see all the connections, etc.""I would like some deployment examples and guides specific to AWS VPCs and how to separate your subnets. Then, how they tie-in with the Internet gateway and any NAT services that we are running on our VPC. This would be extremely helpful.""It does the job, but it's not cloud native. It could be even better, like having a single pane of glass and being less expensive."

"I would like to see some content filtering with MikroTik Routers and Switches.""It could be more scalable. Product awareness could also be better. There's a lack of awareness when it comes to MikroTik. People only know about Cisco and others, and they won't rely on MikroTik. This is primarily because of hardware limitations. While this product is good economically, it's unsuitable for high-end projects. In the next release, I want this product to be more compatible.""The solution needs to improve its security firewalls and mirror that of, for example, Sophos, or FortiGate.""If the reporting functionality of the solution is considered, I think it is not good.""I would like to have the option of having multiple logins.""MikroTik does not have a wireless solution. If they created a high-performance wireless solution we would deploy it in our infrastructure.""The initial setup can be a bit difficult. The configuration can take a lot of time.""MikroTik Routers and Switches needs to improve stability."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "There is not a license required for this solution but the price should be less expensive."
  • More Netgate TNSR Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Cost is a big factor. We would like to see the price reduced."
  • "We would prefer to go through the vendor instead of AWS, as we have a relationship with the vendor and can get discounts directly from them. Going through the vendor, it is much cheaper for us. Though, we would still keep it hosted on AWS."
  • "The licensing model is good with this appliance: Bring Your Own License (BYOL)."
  • "We never buy the product on the AWS Marketplace. We only download it. We always use BYOL. We never buy the license in the AWS Marketplace, because it's very expensive."
  • "Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was easy. It was almost a one-click process to purchase CSR."
  • "The product is too expensive on the AWS Marketplace."
  • "The should make the Dynamic Multipoint VPN solution more affordable."
  • "The price is a little high, more than what we wanted to pay. This is one area where we would like to understanding how the price could be brought down a bit more."
  • More Cisco Cloud Services Router Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "This product is a one-time purchase."
  • "In our last project, we used two hundred units and the price was approximately 500 Shekels ($140 USD)."
  • "There is no licensing fee in addition to the hardware, but we do pay an annual fee for support."
  • "This product is cheaper than competing products by other vendors."
  • "There are not any external or hidden costs."
  • "The price-performance is great."
  • "MikroTik is very cost-effective and quite good for the price. It performs very well. For one of our customers, the existing setup comprises Cisco Catalyst switches, and it is about 10 to 15 years old. We're looking into upgrading in a cost-effective way to get the performance and yet still be at par with the quality and expectations that customers have from Cisco. Price-wise, Cisco is really expensive, and customers are expecting something different than Cisco so that they can save on IT costs. They don't have the same budget that they had before when they installed Cisco products. That's why they're looking for a solution that can provide performance and features without too much money or investment. We're looking at some alternative brands, such as NETGEAR and MikroTik, to support our proposal."
  • "The main reason we use this solution is for the price — it's very cheap."

    Reviews from Real Users

MikroTik stands out among competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its reasonably priced products and its user-friendly user interface, which makes it easy to work and communicate with its hardware.

Parameshwar P., a director at Navyug Networks, writes, "I like MikroTik's GUI. It's completely handy and easy to handle because of its GUI. Despite other brands like Cisco urging me to switch, I didn't because they don't have a GUI. This is the most comfortable thing in my project that anyone can use easily. It’s effortless to maintain MikroTik routers because both screens make it very easy in GUI mode. You can easily interact with your hardware.”

Rodney T., the chief solutions architect at Tech2go Strategic IT Solutions, says, "They are very good at providing the bandwidth for multi-tenants and multi-dwelling units. We're managing Wi-Fi hotspots for hundreds of locations, and the speed and performance are quite there. They also have very cheap 10G products that come with really good and flexible software. They are way cheaper than the top brands, and they're able to deliver the same performance and capabilities."

A principal consultant at a tech services company notes, "The most valuable aspect of this solution is the combination of value for money. They're extremely cost effective, yet they provide you with an extensive feature set of things you can do across the board. Also, they're pretty reliable, as far as equipment goes."
