We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The heat maps are quite good, and some features are easy to use.""The addition of the AirMapper software on the nXG and our AirCheck G2s has helped a lot because we're mostly not drilling down into the data. Local managers only need to see the coverage on their end and whether there are performance bottlenecks. These things are easy enough for us to ascertain with iPerf.""It allows us to prepare more real designs. Later, we validate them with actual surveys.""Clear and easy to use maps.""We use the solution for Wi-Fi and networks.""The benefit is with the ease of use of the software, I am able to show the customer, "Here is what your wireless coverage looks like." It is set up in a fashion that non-technical people can understand it.""The most valuable feature is the predictive survey. The antennas' RF patterns are reflected correctly on the drawing when preparing predictive heat maps.""It is reliable and easy to use (user-friendly). The heat mapping, passive network surveying, and doing the heat mapping of a building's wireless network allows me to see what level of coverage an area has."

"The ability to make different types of networks, such as land networks, is the most valuable part of the solution.""I find this solution easy to configure and use.""The most valuable features of this solution are the Cisco CleanAir and Cisco RRM.""This is a very stable solution that solves complex issues.""The technical support from Cisco is good.""The product enables mobility and centralized control.""The most valuable features are mobility and security.""Cisco Wireless technology allows us to logically segregate networks, to segregate the traffic between multiple types of endpoint devices, connected to the network. For example, corporate laptops are connected to one network, corporate iPhones will go through a different network."

Cons
"I would say some of our newer techs that are going out to job sites can be a little bit intimidated by the interface.""The surveying features are in need of improvement, along with general usability.""The throughput should be more advanced in the future. They need to add more versions of WiFi than just one.""It would be nice to have some more training resources for younger techs. We can use them if we need some assistance, but that usually requires one of us who knows what we're doing to calibrate the programs properly.""It'd be nice if it was cheaper, however, you get value for your money.""When you conduct an active survey and then want to use it for design work, it's actually not very useful.""But it's definitely a more expensive solution than other ones.""Printouts are JPEG printouts. The AirMagnet software is proprietary. I can't send my customers a file, because it is AirMagnet file, even for building projects. I can only send JPEGs or screenshots of heat maps."

"If needs to provide more visibility. It can detect and do it, but as technicians we don't have a lot of visibility into seeing exactly what's happening. It doesn't give us a lot of log information for us to troubleshoot. They probably have additional software you need to purchase to get that kind of information. But I think not all companies can afford additional software to see those kinds of details. So if the wireless controller already had, built-in, those types of things for the technician or wireless engineer, it would be more attractive for the end-user.""The internet speed is high within environments. As you move further away from the access point, there is a decline in speed. Omada or Ruckus don’t have the speed degradation as you move away from the access point.""The GUI could be made more user-friendly. There should also be a dashboard where it can showcase how many end-users are connected to a particular access point.""The classic Cisco wireless interface is difficult for users to learn.""The solution's pricing should be improved.""The reporting of the product could be improved. When I needed to troubleshoot, I couldn't get sufficient information from the controller.""The price could be better. The configuration is also complex. It would be better if there's an NEC solution. That's one of the things we really want to have. It should also be as fast as possible.""The solution doesn't have much coverage area."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The moment we began needing more of the vendor's support, the cost became very high; we switched to another solution."
  • "For technical support, you need an annual license, but it is not worth it."
  • "The pricing needs improvement."
  • "This product is very expensive."
  • "There is an annual cost of the solution. There are some additional charges, such as support and maintenance."
  • "The tool's pricing is medium."

  • "It is an expensive solution."
  • "Expensive."
  • "As far as I know Cisco is very competitive, price-wise. Talk to your third-party vendor. It all depends on the company size - how many employees, how big the building is. If it's wireless, and you have only 50 employees but you're using a large building floor, in that case you need many access points. But if you have 50 employees using two or three rooms, then you probably don't need it and it's going to be high density, so there is a different design. So you need to talk to a subject matter expert. Talk to them and design accordingly."
  • "Cisco is more on the expensive side, as compared to Aruba, but I must say Cisco's quality is unmatched, for sure."
  • "I am not a fan of Cisco's software pricing model. Their management software is far too expensive."
  • "The pricing is high. It could be cheaper."
  • "Never pay the full GPL price."
  • "Pricing is a bit on the high side compared to its competitors but we have to consider the support and usages of the solution. Licensing is now RTU and smart licensing. We need three types of licenses. One for each of the: APs, HA, controller."
