About me

“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”
Formerly intended as a compliment, the phrase characterizes one as a generalist rather than a specialist, and therefore versatile and adept in many areas.

The phrase has changed several times over the years, and in the shortened sentence, “A jack of all trades, a master of none,” it’s meant very sarcastically and most definitely not as a compliment.

In today’s technology field, anyone wanting to get far has to be a specialist in at least one area, but is it necessary to stop at one discipline? A true student of technology should strive to learn as much as possible because everything in technology is connected.

As Robert Heinlein wrote in 'Time Enough for Love':
"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, and die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

My goals in my personal life and professional life are the same: I want to learn and grow, teach and
share, live with passion and integrity, and use my trades and skills to promote technology for
people.
