I primarily use the solution as a gateway to AWS's storage solutions. It's a bundle of different services. We have it so that we can archive data and restore data from the archive.
The primary use case is simple. When you need especially high performance, and require the cache or a local copy of your data, you can't afford the round trip to the cloud and back each time you want to read something. So you keep your information stored locally, cached locally, and then the major repository is in the cloud.
We use the solution to store files, images, and folders.
I mainly use AWS Storage Gateway to store files that are not currently needed.
