We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is really easy to set up and the interface is easy to use.""The most valuable would be the GUI platform that I saw. I first saw it at a special session that StreamSets provided towards the end of the summer. I saw the way you set it up and how you have different processes going on with your data. The design experience seemed to be pretty straightforward to me in terms of how you drag and drop these nodes and connect them with arrows.""The most valuable feature is the pipelines because they enable us to pull in and push out data from different sources and to manipulate and clean things up within them.""StreamSets Transformer is a good feature because it helps you when you are developing applications and when you don't want to write a lot of code. That is the best feature overall.""For me, the most valuable features in StreamSets have to be the Data Collector and Control Hub, but especially the Data Collector. That feature is very elegant and seamlessly works with numerous source systems.""The scheduling within the data engineering pipeline is very much appreciated, and it has a wide range of connectors for connecting to any data sources like SQL Server, AWS, Azure, etc. We have used it with Kafka, Hadoop, and Azure Data Factory Datasets. Connecting to these systems with StreamSets is very easy.""The best thing about StreamSets is its plugins, which are very useful and work well with almost every data source. It's also easy to use, especially if you're comfortable with SQL. You can customize it to do what you need. Many other tools have started to use features similar to those introduced by StreamSets, like automated workflows that are easy to set up.""What I love the most is that StreamSets is very light. It's a containerized application. It's easy to use with Docker. If you are a large organization, it's very easy to use Kubernetes."

"The solution is scalable.""There's hardware, software and application integration, providing hosting flexibility.""Our use case is for integration factory for SAP. It is mostly for SAP integration.""It's easy to construct new interfaces like apps and client portals.""The connectivity that the tool provides, along with the functionalities needed for our company's business, are some of the beneficial aspects of the product.""Oracle's self-service capabilities, of which we make extensive use, is the most valuable feature.""I like the tool's scalability."

Cons
"Sometimes, when we have large amounts of data that is very efficiently stored in Hadoop or Kafka, it is not very efficient to run it through StreamSets, due to the lack of efficiency or the resources that StreamSets is using.""In terms of the product, I don't think there is any room for improvement because it is very good. One small area of improvement that is very much needed is on the knowledge base side. Sometimes, it is not very clear how to set up a certain process or a certain node for a person who's using the platform for the first time.""The design experience is the bane of our existence because their documentation is not the best. Even when they update their software, they don't publish the best information on how to update and change your pipeline configuration to make it conform to current best practices. We don't pay for the added support. We use the "freeware version." The user community, as well as the documentation they provide for the standard user, are difficult, at best.""StreamSet works great for batch processing but we are looking for something that is more real-time. We need latency in numbers below milliseconds.""The monitoring visualization is not that user-friendly. It should include other features to visualize things, like how many records were streamed from a source to a destination on a particular date.""Visualization and monitoring need to be improved and refined.""Sometimes, it is not clear at first how to set up nodes. A site with an explanation of how each node works would be very helpful.""One area for improvement could be the cloud storage server speed, as we have faced some latency issues here and there."

More StreamSets Cons →

"Rules engine processes and BPM processes should be improved.""The products, at the moment, are new and there should perhaps be support for the older version of the protocols.""The solution's release management feature could be better.""I am not satisfied with the solution because it takes too much effort to migrate and add new information. The migration could be easier.""It is difficult to maintain.""webMethods.io Integration's installation is complex. It should also improve integration and connectors.""The product's stability is an area of concern where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We are running the community version right now, which can be used free of charge."
  • "StreamSets Data Collector is open source. One can utilize the StreamSets Data Collector, but the Control Hub is the main repository where all the jobs are present. Everything happens in Control Hub."
  • "It has a CPU core-based licensing, which works for us and is quite good."
  • "There are different versions of the product. One is the corporate license version, and the other one is the open-source or free version. I have been using the corporate license version, but they have recently launched a new open-source version so that anybody can create an account and use it. The licensing cost varies from customer to customer. I don't have a lot of input on that. It is taken care of by PMO, and they seem fine with its pricing model. It is being used enterprise-wide. They seem to have got a good deal for StreamSets."
  • "The pricing is good, but not the best. They have some customized plans you can opt for."
  • "We use the free version. It's great for a public, free release. Our stance is that the paid support model is too expensive to get into. They should honestly reevaluate that."
  • "The overall cost for small and mid-size organizations needs to be better."
  • "There are two editions, Professional and Enterprise, and there is a free trial. We're using the Professional edition and it is competitively priced."

  • "The pricing is a yearly license."
  • "webMethods.io Integration's pricing is high and has yearly subscription costs."
