We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The ability of all these solutions to work together natively is essential. We have an Azure subscription, including Log Analytics. This feature automatically acts as one of the security baselines and detects recommendations because it also integrates with Defender. We can pull the sysadmin logs from Azure. It's all seamless and native.""What is most useful, is that it has a good connection to the Microsoft ecosystem, and I think that's the key part.""Sentinel enables us to ingest data from our entire ecosystem. In addition to integrating our Cisco ASA Firewall logs, we get our Palo Alto proxy logs and some on-premises data coming from our hardware devices... That is very important and is one way Sentinel is playing a wider role in our environment.""The most valuable feature is the alert notifications, which are categorized by severity levels: informational, low, medium, and high.""Sentinel is a SIEM and SOAR tool, so its automation is the best feature; we can reduce human interaction, freeing up our human resources.""I've worked on most of the top SIEM solutions, and Sentinel has an edge in most areas. For example, it has built-in SOAR capabilities, allowing you to run playbooks automatically. Other vendors typically offer SOAR as a separate licensed solution or module, but you get it free with Sentinel. In-depth incident integration is available out of the box.""The native integration of the Microsoft security solution has been essential because it helps reduce some false positives, especially with some of the impossible travel rules that may be configured in Microsoft 365. For some organizations, that might be benign because they're using VPNs, etc.""The initial setup is very simple and straightforward."

"The product's initial setup phase was not at all difficult.""The most valuable feature is that we can create our own connectors for any application, and NetWitness provides the training and tools to do it.""The development of use cases on the SSA console is quite user friendly. This means that the security analyst or the researcher does not have to learn another language.""The most valuable feature is the security that it provides.""The solution is really scalable for the high-end power, enterprise customer.""Offers a good wireless feature.""The software is scalable to whatever is required, and you can also put a lot of resources in the cloud.""The most valuable features are the packet decoder, log decoder, and concentrator."

More NetWitness Platform Pros →

"The most valuable feature is the reporting.""Some of the rules are most valuable because you can be notified about various things, such as spyware or things that are going on in the internal network.""The most valuable feature of SolarWinds Security Event Manager is the analysis and the knowledge about the incidence that we trace.""SolarWinds' stability is fine. I don't think we've had any software issues.""The solution helps you monitor database instances, application instances, other customer application things, Linux servers, IBM servers, and Oracle servers.""The graphical user interface is very user-friendly. SolarWinds is a hybrid solution so you can use it across many platforms.""SolarWinds Security Event Manager has been generally working well.""We did previously use a different solution, but SolarWinds is much better. It's easy to interact with SolarWinds. It's easy to operate, easy to configure and is generally easier compared to what we were working with before."

Cons
"Everyone has their favorites. There is always room for improvement, and everybody will say, "I wish you could do this for me or that for me." It is a personal thing based on how you use the tool. I do not necessarily have those thoughts, and they are probably not really valuable because they are unique to the context of the user, but broadly, where it can continue to improve is by adding more connectors to more systems.""Given that I am in the small business space, I wish they would make it easier to operate Sentinel without being a Sentinel expert. Examples of things that could be easier are creating alerts and automations from scratch and designing workbooks.""The data connectors for third-party tools could be improved, as some aren't available in Sentinel. They need to be available in the data connector panel.""We've seen delays in getting the logs from third-party solutions and sometimes Microsoft products as well. It would be helpful if Microsoft created a list of the delays. That would make things more transparent for customers.""Sentinel's alerts and notifications are not fully optimized for mobile devices. The overall reporting and the analytics processes for the end user should also be improved. Also, the compatibility and availability of data sources and reports are not always perfect.""The playbook development environment is not as rich as it should be. There are multiple occasions when we face problems while creating the playbook.""There is room for improvement in entity behavior and the integration site.""While I appreciate the UI itself and the vast amount of information available on the platform, I'm finding the overall user experience to be frustrating due to frequent disconnections and the requirement to repeatedly re-authenticate."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"The system looks like it is a mix of a bunch of different systems, and nothing looked like it was quite together.""Sometimes, it gives me static when integrating Windows-based systems. It should produce a precise log of sorts as to where the problem is. For example, a few days ago because of the McAfee application firewall, I couldn't get access to the particular Windows machine. So, my team and I had to figure out by ourselves that there was a virus responsible for the obstacle. This solution should trigger a meaningful log or message indicating the reason the user or implementer can't get into the machine.""The multi-tenant capabilities are lagging compared to IBM QRadar.""Health monitoring of the event sources and devices.""I believe that integrating the solution with other products such as Oracle would be beneficial.""There is no support for this product in this country, so problems have to be resolved through global technical teams.""The user interface is a little bit difficult for new users and it needs to be improved.""There are instances where you try to run the reports and then it does not give you the desired outcome."

More NetWitness Platform Cons →

"The solution's technical support is okay, but we don't have an SLA, and sometimes the response times are very slow.""It is a very technical program. They can simplify it so that it isn't so hard to deal with.""It can be difficult for users who are inexperienced with the solution.""Training for this solution needs to be improved, as new employees are sometimes unfamiliar with the product.""I would like to have a more customizable dashboard.""SolarWinds should improve its correlation capabilities. The correlation does not automatically detect and reduce the events fast enough. You have to manually do a correlation report, which means the tool is not scalable in many ways.""We'd like more customization capabilities.""I don't think SolarWinds is scalable enough. It is somewhat limited when I need to deploy it across multiple environments in a distributed architecture."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."
  • More Microsoft Sentinel Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It’s cheaper to run virtual machines in a VMware environment."
  • "The new pricing and licensing mechanisms are fair. I would advise always to get the full solution (i.e., not only Logs)."
  • "It is cheap."
  • "The licenses are good but the cost is very expensive."
  • "This is a pricey solution; it's not cheap."
  • "We have a perpetual license, so the total cost of ownership is not very expensive. It's a good investment."
  • "Many clients are not able to purchase the packet capability because there is a huge amount of data, and the cost depends on the number of EPS (Events per second), as well as the number of gigabytes of data per day."
  • "Our license is for one year."
  • More NetWitness Platform Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Licensing is on devices, so if you have many, then this may be high."
  • "We do a yearly license renewal. For a year, the solution costs roughly $500,000 USD. There are no costs beyond this yearly fee."
  • "The pricing model would benefit from having package deals with other SolarWinds products."
  • "Licenses can only be purchased in blocks of fifty at a time."
  • "It is in the appropriate mid-range. It is not as expensive as some of the other solutions. It is also not cheap."
  • "The price of SolarWinds Security Event Manager is reasonable."
