We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"You can scale the product.""Edge protection is a valuable feature.""The sandboxing tools offer great prevention for cloud feeds.""We are currently using the URL filtering feature, which is the most popular.""I like the solution's interface.""The initial setup was straightforward. It's quite easy. Deployment took one to two weeks.""The most valuable features are that it's user-friendly, has interesting features, URL filtering, and threat prevention.""The stability of Palo Alto Networks Threat Prevention is good."

"The incident case management is the most valuable feature. Even though there's always something I find I would like to add to that feature, the ability to quickly sort through all the logs, network and endpoint data, etc., and add it to an incident case as part of the investigation, is nice. Having it automatically timeline that additional data into the original incident timeline, and correlate it to other notable events and activities on the network, results in a huge improvement in our overall confidence that we've quickly traced down the right source of an issue.""The solution's initial setup is easy.""Another very important part of insightIDR is the ability to collect data from endpoint devices via agent software. With a large remote workforce, this allows visibility into the endpoints that are connected to the internet, but not to the corporate network.""I have seen that Rapid7 InsightIDR provides security to the networks and endpoints in the company.""It is a very stable solution.""The ability to ingest Office 365 log files, then process them into events and display them on a map.""Great coverage of all systems within our network from endpoint to firewall.""I rate Rapid7 nine out of 10 for affordability"

Cons
"Palo Alto's maintenance needs to be improved.""The pricing has improved with the newer generation of their Firewalls, but the price could always be lower. In comparison with other solutions, I believe they're quite competitive.""We are attempting to improve the use of URL filtering beyond threat protection.""In terms of what needs improvement, the only thing I don't like is the support.""Sometimes when you want to group a set of ports, and communicate with Palo Alto, you cannot group TCP and UDP ports together. This needs to be adjusted.""The installation was complicated.""The application’s pricing and dashboard need improvement. It could be user-friendly.""In Africa, the technical support is probably not as good as in Europe and the USA because it's a specific premium support, partner-enabled premium support and all of that. But it's really good, I don't really have any complaints, it's fairly good. I'll give them 80%."

"One thing that springs to mind is easier API integration with ITSMs. We are evaluating a new ITSM and I would like to have InsightIDR create a ticket when an attack is identified, and the ticket would be closed in InsightIDR when the ITSM resolution is completed. This would take out the "single point of failure" we currently have, if the email recipient is somehow absent, in recording the risk appetite for the incident and the actions taken to mitigate or not.""The ability to tune the collector for custom logs would greatly help.""It would be useful to import threat intelligence in YARA format along with known incorrect email addresses.""Inability to get access to compliance reports within the solution.""Rapid7 doesn't integrate well with all our security tools from various vendors, so we plan to switch. Many of our solutions work with Rapid7, but some do not. We are already searching for a replacement already.""I would like the ability to adjust the threshold of certain existing alerts. Currently the only option is to change the notifications or create my own alert.""InsightIDR is only available in a cloud version. Some of our customers prefer an on-prem solution because they want to manage the security within their environment.""Needs a better ability to customize the check within the console."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The pricing and the licensing are pretty competitive at this stage. As a reseller, I would like to see the price come down a little bit so I can compete better against other firewalls because we do that all the time."
  • "It's not too expensive."
  • "It is an expensive solution and I would like to see a drop in price."
  • "If you want to have all of the good features then you have to pay extra for licensing."
  • "The pricing has improved with the newer generation of their Firewalls, but the price could always be lower."
  • "The pricing could be lower."
  • "Palo Alto Networks Threat Prevention could improve by having consistent pricing at system levels."
  • "The cost involves the price of the hardware, which is expensive. However, most of the Palo Alto solutions are expensive."

  • "I am sure that there are cheaper products out there, but none that meet so many of our needs whilst maintaining stability and usability."
  • "The team is very willing to work with companies. My suggestion is to call the Rapid7 sales department and see how they can help."
  • "Licensing is straightforward. If, for some reason, you don’t meet the minimum licensing requirements, there is a third-party managed service that can help."
  • "Accurately predict your licensing counts as this is a subscription based product."
  • "The pricing and licensing are competitive."
  • "Licensing is by endpoint and amount of retention time (at least ours is). Default retention was one year, but we are able to push the retention further if needed. There's also a provide-your-own-S3 option for longer retention if you don't want to pay for the additional retention years in your Rapid7 agreement."
  • "It is a reasonably priced solution."
  • "It is on a yearly basis. For our own company, for about 250 users, it was 16,000 euros a year."
