Pros
"The live application feature is most valuable. The solution is stable. I rate it a seven out of ten.""Ease of installation, maintenance and powerful outputs and supporting Big Data and Cloud environment as well as OGGCS (Oracle Golden Gate Cloud Service).""You can put data together from a few databases into one database or the other way, from one database into several. It transforms data in real-time.""The solution's existing SaaS platform for data integration gives us an edge.""The CDC feature is interesting.""The product's microservice architecture is scalable.""Data migration is the most valuable feature of Oracle GoldenGate.""The solution is useful for data transformation."

"Best feature is Insight for monitoring, and as a debugging tool. It has saved us a lot of time during crisis situations.""The main assets are its flow language, debugging, and Broker. Flow language is far better and more flexible for debugging.""It's very flexible and a good platform to use.""The product supports various types of digital documents, including XMLs and EDI.""All of the components are very independent but are tied together to give the business value.""The synchronous and asynchronous messaging system the solution provides is very good.""It is a bundled product stack for A2A and B2B usage. It is one of the best products which I have used during my integration career.""We can arrange data caching and look at the solid state. Also, the API gateway is a very good component that can handle relevant cachings and integrations, as well as and also load permitting."

Cons
"A clean and user-friendly graphical interface based on common design principles would be beneficial.""The GoldenGate license is very costly.""It would be great if Oracle added some enhanced features or more functionalities to Oracle GoldenGate.""Microservices Architecture is not user-friendly.""In the future, I would appreciate a more user-friendly monitoring interface for easier management and troubleshooting.""I find the user interface to be difficult for non-technical people.""The solution costs a lot.""The product lacks some features and it's expensive."

"In terms of improvement, it would be better if it adapted quicker to open standards. It took a while for API specification before the last version was available. The spec of version two was rather quick.""Upgrades are complex. They typically take about five months from start to finish. There are many packages that plug into webMethods Integration Server, which is the central point for a vast majority of the transactions at my organization. Anytime we are upgrading that, there are complexities within each component that we must understand. That makes any upgrade very cumbersome and complicated. That has been my experience at this company. Because there are many different business units that we are touching, there are so many different components that we are touching. The amount of READMEs that you have to go through takes some time.""Business monitoring (BAM) needs improvement because the analytics and prediction module very often has performance problems.""This is a great solution and the vendor could improve the marketing of the solution to be able to reach more clients.""wM SAP Adapter User Guide - Example, like Message Broker setup was unclear, leading to issues during Testing and we had refer the internet forums to understand that there is a Message Broker Cleanup utility and that needs to be setup as well.""On the monitoring side of things, the UI for monitoring could be improved. It's a bit cumbersome to work with.""For code version control, you need to use some external software.""webMethods Integration Server needs to add more adapters."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The one feature that I think Oracle could perhaps consider is, at the moment, the Veridata option is an extra cost. Golden Gate is an expensive product. You pay a lot for the best. But not including the Veridata license to prove that everything is working correctly... The big improvement for me would be to have that license built in. That would take it to the next level. That would make it a much better product. You may want to look at buying term licenses if you've just got a single migration to do. In that situation, you might want a term license for perhaps a year to save a lot of money, rather than buying a perpetual license."
  • "The licensing model should be improved to be more cost-effective for the end users."
  • "We do like the price of this solution."
  • "Pricing is based on anual licensing with additional costs for support packages."
  • "The price of this solution is good."
  • "We have an enterprise license for it. It might be for three years or so. I'm not aware of any additional costs to the standard licensing fee."
  • "Its price can be better. It is a bit crazy, and its licensing is very difficult to understand. I would rate it one out of five in terms of pricing. There don't seem to be any additional costs."
  • "We have purchased corporate licensing to use Oracle GoldenGate."
  • More Oracle GoldenGate Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Initialy good pricing and good, if it comes to Enterprise license agreements."
  • "It is worth the cost."
  • "Always plan five years ahead and don’t jeopardize the quality of your project by dropping items from the bill of materials."
  • "Pricing has to be negotiated with the local Software AG representative. SAG can always prepare an appropriate pricing model for every client."
  • "Some of the licensing is "component-ized," which is confusing to new users/customers."
  • "It is expensive, but we reached a good agreement with the company. It is still a little bit expensive, but we got a better deal than the previous one."
  • "The pricing and licensing costs for webMethods are very high, which is the only reason that we might switch to another product."
  • "The vendor is flexible with respect to pricing."

    Overview

Oracle GoldenGate is a real-time data integration and database replication solution. It can detect data events and route them across networks at very low latencies and integrates well with 100s of combinations of non-Oracle databases, data stores, and clouds.

    Oracle GoldenGate Features

Oracle GoldenGate has many valuable key features, including:

    • Simple to use web interface
    • Fast and easy installation or provisioning
    • Command line access via AdminClient that can run anywhere
    • RESTful APIs for DevOps
    • Offers built-in monitoring but also can be easily adapted to roll your own monitoring
    • APIs are protected by Cross Site Request Forgery (CSRF) authentication.

    Oracle GoldenGate Benefits

Some of the benefits of using Oracle GoldenGate include:

    • Oracle GoldenGate is deeply integrated with the Oracle Database (logging, redo, backup and recovery layer, security, administration, data guard, data vault, autonomous database etc.).

    • It is the most stable, performant, and reliable CDC / replication solution for Oracle.

    • High performance: Oracle GoldenGate is capable of sub-second latency for data movement. featuring low impact capture, routing, transformation, and delivery of transactional data.

    • GoldenGate is the only CDC / replication tool that keeps pace with new and emerging innovations (security, features, data types, etc) in the core Oracle Database.

    • The solution supports a wide range of use cases, from conventional OLTP data replication and high availability to data lake ingestion or multi-cloud ingestion, SaaS application replication, and messaging replication.
    • GoldenGate is the only CDC / replication technology certified for Exadata, Exadata Cloud Service, and Exadata Cloud at Customer.

    • For fault-tolerance, GoldenGate has its own mechanism to keep track of how much work is completed and how much is pending. This mechanism is independent of any database and ensures, with the help of automatic gap-resolution, that no data loss occurs.

    • GoldenGate uses its own proprietary format files for keeping the committed data coming from the source database, making it independently functional irrespective of the database in use.

    • To maintain the performance and consistency, only committed data is sent. Uncommitted data is captured by GoldenGate, but is discarded after receiving a Rollback.

    • With GoldenGate, data sending is in “near real time,” which reduces the possibility of latency.

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Oracle GoldenGate users.

PeerSpot user Steve-J., Cloud Migration Software Consultant - UK & EMEA at 1PLACE, says, "What I have found the most valuable about GoldenGate is that it does real-time and no-downtime migrations. Its migrations are fast. There are not many tools like it on the marketplace."

Pinak S., Senior Manager of System and Database at ESL, mentions, “We like how in GoldenGate the heterogeneous database is supported. Sometimes the client actually needs a schedule and needs to ensure the state of databases for reporting purposes. With that in mind, we have been able to configure GoldenGate for certain schema. The solution is quite stable. They've recently improved the ease of implementation.”

A Database Administrator at a manufacturing company explains, "It moves the data as you set it up, and it works. I am also very impressed with its stability and scalability. It is not super feature-rich, but the new releases have more functionality. It recently had more native integrations with Oracle Database. If you are using it against an Oracle database, it has a lot more functionality."

An Oracle ERP DBA Consultant - Oracle Super Cluster T5-8 Admin at a government comments, "GoldenGate can connect and collect data from multiple sources, such as SQL Server."

webMethods Integration Server is widely considered to be the best integration server available in the marketplace today. The solution can help users integrate everything and anything.

webMethods Integration Server allows organizations to display and integrate existing and new business activities. The solution offers components that help users create, test, and install new services. webMethods Integration Server can automate, organize, and construct various gathered services and traditional legacy systems into productive value-added processes. webMethods Integration Server works as a secure platform for distributing and running services. The solution obtains and translates user requests, recognizes and records the requested service, translates and moves the data in the necessary format, receives the information back, and returns the information to the user in the appropriate original format. webMethods is the primary solution used by enterprise organizations for integrating functional coordination with application servers, custom applications, and databases. webMethods makes it easy for enterprise organizations to share electronic documents seamlessly.

Users have several options to audit webMethods Integration Server processes using some of the component metrics below:

    • Adapters: Using the SOA extension for webMethods, users can easily monitor the performance of every adapter users have deployed. Available metrics include Adapter Services, Adapter Connection Pools, and Adapter Notifications nodes.

    • Business Processes: A business process is a process that uses a specific set of rules to perform tasks in a prescribed order. Many business processes depend on the successful integration of numerous systems, involving many people in varying roles. With the SOA extension for webMethods, users can easily monitor that workflow, ensuring that processes are being performed as defined.

    • Java Services: This includes services created in Java or in languages coordinated with Java.

    • WebServices: This includes services regarding webserver endpoints and performance.

    • XSLT Services: This service will allow users to transform XML data into other formats and includes the transformation to other services.

    • Thread Pools: This metric uses threads to conduct services, gather documents from the webMethods Broker, and initiate triggers. Documents can be published locally on the server or to the broker that will send the document out. A JMS trigger receives inbound messages and then processes those messages accordingly.

    Reviews from Real Users:

“There are a few things about this product that we definitely like. It is very robust. If you build it nicely, you can't go wrong with it. It's rock solid. The development is very fast. If you know what you're doing, you can develop something very easy and very fast.” - Rohit S., Integration Lead at a wellness & fitness company

“One of the most important features is that it gives you the possibility to do low-level integration. We can meet any requirements through customizations, transformations, or the logic that needs to be put in. When clients come to me with any problem, in about 99% of cases, I say, "Yes, it is feasible to do through webMethods." It has reached such a level of flexibility and maturity. Most of the things are available out of the box, and even if something is not available out of the box, we can customize it and deliver it for a client's requirements.” - Sushant D., IT specialist at Accenture
