We performed a comparison between New Relic and Splunk Enterprise Security based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two IT Operations Analytics solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The alert mechanism is quite accurate when something goes wrong in your system. For example, if you have hundreds of APIs on your server, and any of the APIs is not performing well, you get an alert. When there is a drop or change in the threshold value, the beauty of New Relic is that within a fraction of seconds, all the stakeholders who are configured in the New Relic system will get an alert. That's one good thing."
"The pricing is pretty good."
"To me, the most valuable feature of New Relic APM is the traceability, mainly based on the time travel method, so you get the overall response time, which is pretty helpful for developers and ADR techs looking into issues on a deeper level. New Relic APM is a very good, tailor-made solution."
"You don't have to go through a list of 500 servers."
"Server uptime is its most valuable feature."
"The solution offers good documentation."
"The simplicity of the dashboard is very good."
"It has a simple initial setup."
"Splunk allows us to customize processing and dashboards, which helps us take care of our customers' needs."
"The solution has proven to be quite stable."
"The most valuable feature of Splunk Enterprise Security is the comprehensive logging capabilities it provides."
"Splunk has machine learning which is a valuable feature."
"The most valuable feature of Splunk is the log monitoring."
"With good domain knowledge, one can build almost anything. If you throw in Alert Manager or an integration with ServiceNow. Then, you have your own SIEM"
"We solve issues that we previously could not since we now have the data."
"Its huge, versatile AppBase helped me to configure and bring data from different sources to a unified platform."
"I would like to have storage monitoring. E.g., being able to monitor SANS, specifically protocols, like NFS and CIFS metrics."
"The integration and configuration of this product in our AWS environment needs improvement on the filtering part. I would like it to go more granular on accounts."
"The product has good documentation for Linux, however, their documentation for Windows is lacking substantially. It's something they need to develop."
"The solution could improve by having more network monitoring features, such as for all the infrastructure."
"They could improve the education process and how people understand that these tools are very technical. Right now, if someone was to pick it up from day one, it is a very steep learning curve."
"New Relic APM is a good tool, and it has a database of failures, but it could use a list of customer-specific failures. New Relic APM should be able to give my company advanced analytics through AI."
"Compared to their competitors, they are missing some features at the moment."
"Real-user monitoring would be helpful as it would help me to really understand the client-side performance of the application."
"Splunk is query-based, which is not the case with most cybersecurity tools. It is based on search queries and can be difficult to use. It would be good if they can make it easier to understand how to create search queries. They can improve the knowledge base for better understanding. To create your dashboard, you need to have a search query. We have multiple firewalls in our company, and we need a dashboard for them. It would be helpful if a default firewall dashboard is included in Splunk to make monitoring easier. If a dashboard is available for a security device, the operation part will be more efficient. We won't have to follow a manual process for this."
"The historical data extraction needs improvement. I would like the capability of taking data and having it trend longer."
"The training was mostly sales-focused, like how to monitor your sales. It was hard to then come back from doing the training and try to switch it to a cybersecurity focus because all the training we did was sales oriented. The basic training didn't really touch on any kind of cybersecurity use cases or anything like that. That would have been great to see in the training."
"It can be tough to determine if you are getting all of the value out of your investment at times."
"The presence of multiple layers creates a significant challenge for monitoring across cloud environments."
"Splunk is not very user-friendly. It has a complex architecture in comparison to other solutions on the market."
"We had an instance when Splunk failed and it took us a couple of days to recover."
"While Splunkbase (the app repository) has a lot of great content, some apps are terribly old and could stand to be updated or purged."
