We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It has a lot of great features.""The automation rules and playbooks are the most useful that I've seen. A number of other places segregate the automation and playbook as separate tools, whereas Microsoft is a SIEM and SOAR tool in one.""Having your logs put all in one place with machine learning working on those logs is a good feature. I don't need to start thinking, "Where are my logs?" My logs are in a centralized repository, like Log Analytics, which is why you can't use Sentinel without Log Analytics. Having all those logs in one place is an advantage.""The analytics has a lot of advantages because there are 300 default use cases for rules and we can modify them per our environment. We can create other rules as well. Analytics is a useful feature.""It is quite efficient. It helps our clients in identifying their security issues and respond quickly. Our clients want to automate incident response and all those things.""Sentinel has an intuitive, user-friendly way to visualize the data properly. It gives me a solid overview of all the logs. We get a more detailed view that I can't get from the other SIEM tools. It has some IP and URL-specific allow listing""What is most useful, is that it has a good connection to the Microsoft ecosystem, and I think that's the key part.""Sentinel uses Azure Logic Apps for automation, which is really powerful. This allows us to easily automate responses to incidents."

"The log management has helped to improve my organization.""ManageEngine EventLog Analyzer is easy to gather reports to give to management. My supervisor has access to the solution and he enjoys the graphs.""The initial setup is straightforward""The user interface is very good.""I have made use of technical support and am certainly very satisfied with them.""It's one of the easiest products. It's very simple to use.""The most valuable features of ManageEngine EventLog Analyzer are the number of capabilities, file integration monitoring, web server log collection, and alert configuration.""It is stable."

"The most valuable features of McAfee ESM are intrusion detection, malware protection, and the device controller.""It has performed well and delivered the results that I have been looking for.""I like the ease of deployment.""The solution is 100% stable. We really have had a great time working with it. It hasn't let us down.""This solution integrates easily and very well with other technologies.""Compared to other solutions, the user interface is good.""McAfee as a whole is a good solution.""The most valuable feature is for the security operation center because it provides visibility of all traffic within the company infrastructure."

Cons
"We'd like also a better ticketing system, which is older.""Some of the data connectors are outdated, at least the ones that utilize Linux machines for log forwarding. I believe that Microsoft is already working on improving this.""I would like to see more AI used in processes.""The data connectors for third-party tools could be improved, as some aren't available in Sentinel. They need to be available in the data connector panel.""We do see continuous improvement all the time, however, I haven't got a specific feature that is lacking or not well designed.""Microsoft Defender has a built-in threat expert option that enables you to contact an expert. That feature isn't available in Sentinel because it's a huge product that integrates all the technologies. I would like Microsoft to add the threat expert option so we can contact them. There are a few other features, like threat assessment that the PG team is working on. I expect them to release this feature in the next quarter.""There are certain delays. For example, if an alert has been rated on Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, it might take up to an hour for that alert to reach Sentinel. This should ideally take no more than one or two seconds.""Improvement-wise, I would like to see more integration with third-party solutions or old-school antivirus products that have some kind of logging capability. I wouldn't mind having that exposed within Sentinel. We do have situations where certain companies have bought licensing or have made an investment in a product, and that product will be there for the next two or three years. To be able to view information from those legacy products would be great. We can then better leverage the Sentinel solution and its capabilities."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"It may not be as easy to use as Splunk.""Support could improve to make the solution better.""The first tier of customer service and support is not great.""The solution should improve on its log capturing capabilities.""I would like to see more detailed reports.""The customization of reports could be a lot easier. It is not difficult but it could be made easier.""The solution is stable. However, there are limits. For example, we can do 2,500 Syslog events per second, but if we want to do more we have to install the distributor structure, and then we can expand how many events we can do. They could improve the stability.""There isn't good security integration when it comes to cybersecurity. The correlation of logs isn't so simple."

More ManageEngine EventLog Analyzer Cons →

"The initial setup is difficult and could improve.""The product’s alert response feature needs improvement. It could be more flexible and secure.""There's no software support from McAfee.""Product-wise, adding accounts on a single data source by batch would be a really great help.""It seems McAfee does test its product before releasing. When we - not only us, other companies also - deploy McAfee, we face multiple issues from the customer side, after which, McAfee reacts and fixes the bugs.""The solution needs to improve case management. The UI is confusing.""I would like to see fingerprint recognition included in the next release of this solution.""McAfee ESM is not user-friendly and the log is not accurate. For instance, if I were assigned to generate a log for changes made today, I wouldn't be able to see all the modifications. While Palo Alto allows us to see all changes, McAfee ESM only captures one out of every ten changes. It's crucial to have visibility into all changes made."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "There is a license required for these solutions. The customer can choose the license type, such as an annual license purchase or a perpetual license. If the customer wants maintenance they will have to pay annually."

  • "You should buy the distributed option instead of the all-in-one for environments with more than 1000 end points."
  • "We pay for our licensing fees on a yearly basis, and there are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
  • "The cost is dependent on the customer's environment and requirements."
  • "The pricing is good, and they are competitive compared to providers such as RSA and IBM QRadar."
  • "The cost is all included. The finance department handles the financial part, and we mostly don't get involved in it."
  • "We renew our license annually."
  • "McAfee is the right choice for a low-budget solution."
  • "The price is good. It's moderate. We follow a pay-as-you-go model. There are different models available, and they can also be monthly. You can choose monthly or yearly. It's very flexible. If our existing customers exceed the current plan, you can just call McAfee and get it extended."
