We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It makes it pretty simple to do some fairly complicated things. Both I and some of our other BI developers have made stabs at using, for example, SQL Server Integration Services, and we found them a little bit frustrating compared to Data Integration. So, its ease of use is right up there.""The amount of data that it loads and processes is good.""The fact that it's a low-code solution is valuable. It's good for more junior people who may not be as experienced with programming.""It's my understanding that the product can scale.""It's very simple compared to other products out there.""I can create faster instructions than writing with SQL or code. Also, I am able to do some background control of the data process with this tool. Therefore, I use it as an ELT tool. I have a station area where I can work with all the information that I have in my production databases, then I can work with the data that I created.""I can use Python, which is open-source, and I can run other scripts, including Linux scripts. It's user-friendly for running any object-based language. That's a very important feature because we live in a world of open-source.""Lumada has allowed us to interact with our employees more effectively and compensate them properly. One of the cool things is that we use it to generate commissions for our salespeople and bonuses for our warehouse people. It allows us to get information out to them in a timely fashion. We can also see where they're at and how they're doing."

"The solution's technical support is good.""The standard adapter with EBA abilities is the most valuable feature. It has good process integration.""In my opinion, SAP PO is the most mature suite of tools to integrate processes across SAP environments at this moment. It's really unbeatable because it allows you to integrate whatever scenarios you can imagine.""The most valuable feature is the seamless integration with backend systems.""Process Orchestration fulfils the need for middleware to mediate types of connectivity.""The solution offers very good documentation and manuals to assist with understanding the solution.""The solution provides very good and central logging systems. It offers high flexibility with vertical and horizontal extend capacity.""The solution is stable."

Cons
"There is not a data quality or MDM solution in the Pentaho DI suite.""I would like to see more improvements with AS400 DB2.""Its basic functionality doesn't need a whole lot of change. There could be some improvement in the consistency of the behavior of different transformation steps. The software did start as open-source and a lot of the fundamental, everyday transformation steps that you use when building ETL jobs were developed by different people. It is not a seamless paradigm. A table input step has a different way of thinking than a data merge step.""If you develop it on MacBook, it'll be quite a hassle.""I would like to see support for some additional cloud sources. It doesn't support Azure, for example. I was trying to do a PoC with Azure the other day but it seems they don't support it.""Lumada could have more native connectors with other vendors, such as Google BigQuery, Microsoft OneDrive, Jira systems, and Facebook or Instagram. We would like to gather data from modern platforms using Lumada, which is a better approach. As a comparison, if you open Power BI to retrieve data, then you can get data from many vendors with cloud-native connectors, such as Azure, AWS, Google BigQuery, and Athena Redshift. Lumada should have more native connectors to help us and facilitate our job in gathering information from these new modern infrastructures and tools.""It's not very stable, at least not in the case of the community edition. I'm working with the community edition right now and I think perhaps it is because of that it is not very stable, it causes the system to sometimes hang. I'm not sure if this is the case for pair tiers.""The performance could be improved. If they could have analytics perform well on large volumes, that would be a big deal for our products."

"The solution needs to move to the cloud.""Process Orchestration needs to provide secure connectivity as no one has any data information.""The product roadmap suggests it will approach the end of support in several years, and a lot of innovations are now implemented by SAP not in SAP PO, but in SAP Integration Suite, hence, the platform is stable, but doesn't receive a lot of new features in recent updates.""This is an on-premise platform and one area they can improve on is having the ability to work with SaaS solutions.""The cloud capability features need improvement.""It's very difficult to find errors in a simple way.""SAP Process Orchestration breaks down sometimes.""The solution could be more scalable."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "There is a good open source option (Community Edition)."
  • "The price of the regular version is not reasonable and it should be lower."
  • "Sometimes we provide the licenses or the customer can procure their own licenses. Previously, we had an enterprise license. Currently, we are on a community license as this is adequate for our needs."
  • "It does seem a bit expensive compared to the serverless product offering. Tools, such as Server Integration Services, are "almost" free with a database engine. It is comparable to products like Alteryx, which is also very expensive."
  • "I think Lumada's price is fair compared to some of the others, like BusinessObjects, which is was the other thing that I used at my previous job. BusinessObject's price was more reasonable before SAP acquired it. They jacked the price up significantly. Oracle's OBIEE tool was also prohibitively expensive."
  • "When we first started with it, it was much cheaper. It has gone up drastically, especially since Hitachi bought out Pentaho."
  • "The cost of these types of solutions are expensive. So, we really appreciate what we get for our money. Though, we don't think of the solution as a top-of-the-line solution or anything like that."
  • "The pricing has been pretty good. I'm used to using everything open-source or freeware-based. I understand that organizations need to make sure that the solutions are secure, and that's basically where I hit a roadblock in my current organization. They needed to ensure that we had a license and we had a secure way of accessing it so that no outside parties could get access to our data, but in terms of pricing, considering how much other teams are spending on cloud solutions or even their existing solutions, its price point is pretty good. At this time, there are no additional costs. We just have the licensing fees."

  • "The cost of SAP products is quite high but the quality is really good."
  • "The pricing for this solution is fine."
  • "There are fees in addition to the licensing."
  • "It's not an expensive solution."
  • "Looking at market conditions, vendors nowadays are giving products at very low price levels. However, SAP Process Orchestration have not yet reduced their prices. The prices could be reduced a lot to stay competitive."
  • "The license is a one-time payment, and additional costs are only incurred on the infrastructure side since it's an on-premise solution."
  • "The price of SAP Process Orchestration was reasonable."
  • "The fee for maintenance is costly."
