We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The automation feature is valuable.""Sentinel also enables you to ingest data from your entire ecosystem and not just from the Microsoft ecosystem. It can receive data from third-party vendors' products such firewalls, network devices, and antivirus solutions. It's not only a Microsoft solution, it's for everything.""I like the unified security console. You can close incidents using Sentinel in all other Microsoft Security portals, when it comes to incident response.""If you know how to do KQL (kusto query language) queries, which are how you query the log data inside Sentinel, the information is pretty rich. You can get down to a good level of detail regarding event information or notifications.""It's easy to use. It's a very good product. It can easily ingest data from anywhere. It has an easily understandable language to perform actions.""The most valuable feature is the onboarding of the workloads. You can see all that has been onboarded in your account on the dashboards.""I've worked on most of the top SIEM solutions, and Sentinel has an edge in most areas. For example, it has built-in SOAR capabilities, allowing you to run playbooks automatically. Other vendors typically offer SOAR as a separate licensed solution or module, but you get it free with Sentinel. In-depth incident integration is available out of the box.""The in-built SOAR of Sentinel is valuable. Kusto Query Language is also valuable for the ease of writing queries and ease of getting insights from the logs. Schedule-based queries within Sentinel are also valuable. I found these three features most useful for my projects."

"It has helped us centralize and have better visibility into devices on our network. We are better able to respond to threats in a timely manner.""The log analysis feature is valuable.""LogRhythm NextGen SIEM is customizable, simple to manage, and there are many features. The solution does not require an expert to be able to use it, anyone can use it.""The PCI compliance pieces that help us produce reports for our external auditor, and their support.""The artificial intelligence engine.""I would say the most valuable feature of LogRhythm is that it has built-in UEBA functionality, among other basic Windows packages.""The GUI is very intuitive and the solution has good integration.""Its benefits are broad. The solution isn't necessarily made to do any one thing, but it can do anything you tell it to. It is able to tackle any different type or size of job."

"The configuration part is very easy...The technical support was sincere in their responses...I rate the technical support a nine out of ten.""The most valuable feature is the management features. It's capable of managing large enterprises.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the reporting."

Cons
"The AI capabilities must be improved.""While I appreciate the UI itself and the vast amount of information available on the platform, I'm finding the overall user experience to be frustrating due to frequent disconnections and the requirement to repeatedly re-authenticate.""Not all information shows up in Sentinel. Sometimes there are items provided in 365 and if you looked in Sentinel you would not see them and therefore think they do not exist. There can be discrepancies between Microsoft tools.""If their UI was a bit more streamlined and easy to find when I need it, then that would be a great improvement.""I would like Sentinel to have more out-of-the-box analytics rules. There are already more than 400 rules, but they could add more industry-specific ones. For example, you could have sets of out-of-the-box rules for banking, financial sector, insurance, automotive, etc., so it's easier for people to use it out of the box. Structuring the rules according to industry might help us.""At the network level, there is a limitation in integrating some of the switches or routers with Microsoft Sentinel. Currently, SPAN traffic monitoring is not available in Microsoft Sentinel. I have heard that it is available in Defender for Identity, which is a different product. It would be good if LAN traffic monitoring or SPAN traffic monitoring is available in Microsoft Sentinel. It would add a lot of value. It is available in some of the competitor products in the market.""I believe one of the challenges I encountered was the absence of live training sessions, even with the option to pay for them.""I would like to be able to monitor applications outside of the Azure Cloud."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"My big thing is the easability. I don't like to go to two different systems. The fat client that you have to install to configure it, then the web console which is just for reporting and analysis. These features need to collapse, and it needs to be in a single solution. Going through the web solution in the future is the way to do it, because right now, it is a bit cumbersome.""When we originally got LogRhythm, their tech support was fantastic, and I loved them. Now, we don't quite get as quick of a response. I've been disappointed in the more recent tech support. When you call in, they'll say that they will get you somebody, and you'll finally get someone who will contact you back a day or so later. Whereas before, I would get help right away.""We had a little bit of difficulty implementing a disaster recovery situation because it was leveraging only Microsoft native DNS and it wouldn't work with our Infoblox DNS deployment that we use in our environment. They've been working on that behind the scenes.""I would really love to be able to take some of the data and not have to export it to a CSV file, so I can pull it into Excel to turn it into some other kind of graph.""We need to get better training for things like creating code and playlists. The way it's done now takes a long time.""Better integration with different services is needed, as there are quite a few platforms that we use that don't integrate very smoothly with LogRhythm.""I would like it to do a lot of the automation (which I still need to learn more about), because I am essentially a one man shop doing all the jobs. I'd like for it to be able to do more for me.""The user interface needs improvement. The more the user can slide around and know what's going on, the better it will be."

"The integration could be easier, it should support more products.""In general, the solution currently isn't user-friendly.""RSA enVision log manager is out of date and is not in use anymore."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."
  • More Microsoft Sentinel Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Look closely at the cost of licensing of other products. This should include setups and the need for support services. I did a RFQ to 2 other vendors before choosing this product."
  • "If you don't have your staff, absolutely look into the co-pilot and factor that into your cost evaluation."
  • "I would recommend that whatever sales quotes to them upfront, they will probably go up. Because they are probably going to outgrow that very quickly or once they start getting everything into it, they are going to have to move up anyway."
  • "Look for whatever will give you the most value. That's the main point. It is not one size fits all."
  • "I would recommend talking to the rep. That's the biggest thing because they will know what questions to ask."
  • "In comparison to the competition, they are more affordable. This allows us to do more with less."
  • "The solution has provided us with consistency and increased staff productivity through orchestrated automated work flows by at least 20 percent."
  • "I have seen a measurable decrease in the mean time to detect and respond to threats. We went from not detecting them to detecting them. We can actually pick up what is anomalous in our network now."

  • "We no longer pay a licensing fee because it is out of date and don't pay for support."
  • "On a scale of one to ten, where one is low, and ten is high price, I rate the pricing a six."
