Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Commvault provides the status of a backup or restore operation.""The solution has the fastest backup and better licensing.""Well documented SQL views and customizable reports, together with scripts and workflows provides ability to automate processes and ensure proper controls are in place.""The user interface is very easy to navigate.""Metallic is user-friendly, cost-effective, and the technical support is impressive.""It has significantly reduced the amount of manual work required to manage our backup operations. We're going from an on-prem to a non-on-prem, we're all doing nonsolutions. So we really can't compare it against anything else.""It integrates redundant storage and preserves jams in a storage area, providing up to 70% compression rate.""The solution is easy to use and the duplication is quite good."

"iland is excellent as far as the interface.""The service itself wasn't bad.""They have just implemented a Backup and Restore portal that we think is very good."

Cons
"Commvault is a rich system that might scare somebody the first time they see it because it feels so huge.""I would like to see more customizable reports. I have reports going right now, but the daily report, for example, shows something like 40 jobs that ran when there are just a few endpoints on there. I'd like to just know if the endpoint was successfully backed up, not how many times. More customizable reports would be nice to have.""The product's migration process and stability need improvement.""There is room for improvement in terms of data security.""This is not a very high standard product.""Commvault HyperScale X is more expensive for hybrid environments than traditional solutions.""They need to improve when it comes to large, video file archiving. They're good, but they have not met my expectations as a customer in this area.""The reporting could be improved because the reports we get from our partner aren't sufficient. It isn't very detailed. I'm not sure if it's an issue with our partner or Metallic. They do a full backup on Monday and incremental backups throughout the week. However, we don't get detailed reports about the size of the incremental backups. The report just tells us whether a backup was successful."

"I would like to see a better method of backing up Exchange in the cloud.""They don't support a more current version of VMware.""The vendor needs to changes billing to work like every other business and stop charging people if they stop using your service."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."
