"The best thing about the solution is how it highlights errors, the issues, and what needs my attention. The solution directs me to areas that I should look for first.""There's a module called Icinga Director, which helps us configure the product using an intuitive interface through clicks instead of creating a text configuration. It's very helpful for us.""The drafts are easy but what I like about Icinga is that there are many add-ons that you can download.""The apply rules feature saves a lot of time.""It is really easy in Icinga to create your own plugin and integrate it without any fuss. And it works just perfectly fine.""Macros and the ability to connect it to Google Maps are valuable features.""The value of Icinga is that it has hundreds of plugins, so it's really easy to monitor pretty much anything.""Icinga has multiple automation and integration features. There is an API for everything and a web UI for configurations. The APIs enable you to automate tasks in Icinga. We can also use plugins to talk to the API. The Icinga Director talks to a database in the background, and you can import settings from the CMDB to all systems in Icinga."

"The dashboard allows you to see what's going on in the overall system.""Nagios allows us to configure any device so that we can send pager alerts when people don't have access to emails. It also allows us to schedule downtime and maintenance.""Nagios XI is stable.""BPI: It allows defining peripherals to map business criticality for efficient monitoring, as required.""Nagios XI helped me to draw the network and check for system failures.""It is an open-source platform with valuable features for performance and stability.""Nagios is stable and it's easy to use the monitoring software, which is why we chose this product.""It's great for monitoring IT services infrastructure."

Cons
"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."

More Juniper Mist Premium Analytics Cons →

"I think the software is quite good, but we have had problems with getting it to recognize certain areas and amend certain checks, where we needed so we would have to create backend scripts for those checks. Though, being open source, it has the support to create backend scripts, it would be better to have these scripts in-built.""The solution lacks many features important to higher-level IT management and network support.""Icinga’s automation could be improved.""One thing that Icinga lacks is the capability to create advanced and customized dashboards within the tool itself.""Icinga is a complex solution that's hard to learn. It's a powerful product for monitoring, but new users will have a hard time figuring out what to do.""The tool currently fails to provide notifications to users.""At this time, the layout of the website is a bit difficult. It should be more user-friendly for changing the background and logos.""In general, the product does not look good. However, it does what it is supposed to do. So, the improvements should focus on usability and UI."

More Icinga Cons →

"The product uses the backend as Perl and could be modified to a more lightweight solution like what's being offered by other vendors.""The way Nagios displays information isn't easy for a new user to understand. It's not intuitive enough. You need to read some tutorials or be trained to understand what it's displaying. Also, I think it needs more features to improve network visibility because there are some things you can't detect.""The installation and monitoring need improvement.""They need more documentation for the plugins.""Open-source software is usually not user-friendly.""The reporting part should be made simpler. While we can obtain all the reports we need, we always have to create work-arounds to get them.""The scalability of Nagios XI is scalable. However, it is not easy to do.""The pricing has recently risen. I know they've changed what is covered under the license, however, it doesn't change the way we use it and adds nothing to our experience, and yet we now have to pay more."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
