We performed a comparison between F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) and Radware Alteon based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Application Delivery Controllers (ADC) solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The most valuable feature is being able to manipulate the iRules, so you can send traffic to different avenues."
"We use F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager to balance traffic."
"Great load balancing."
"We are using Application Security Manager (ASM) as a web application firewall, where there is a security signature to avoid a web level breach."
"F5 BIG-IP is used with good applications and functions as an application firewall with additional features. We will not use any feature or any service unless there is a business case and there is a need for implementation."
"It is a very good, flexible solution. It helps us to catch up on flaws in our partner solutions on top of its load balancing feature."
"It offers features Kemp doesn't provide. For example, there are predefined templates for handling Office 365. You can download them for automatic configuration."
"Users can see a remarkable performance difference from a qualitative sense."
"The device blocks threats and allows legitimate users to work correctly."
"The UI is user-friendly."
"The most valuable feature is the load-balancing reverse proxy."
"Radware has been characterized by being extremely robust. This gives us the confidence to offer our users a continuous service."
"I found the link load balancer and server load balancer are the most valuable."
"The command line interface is simple and very user-friendly."
"The best features are the security through the web application firewall, the functionality that the solution offers, being a load balancer with the security functionality on top of it, and the ease of administration."
"The best part is that we are able to manage it easily. It is easy to manage and easy to integrate with third-party applications."
"If one virtual portion is unavailable, it can cause issues."
"The SharePoint SSO part has some room for improvement."
"The ASM administration is quite complex. The topic itself is pretty complex, so it is not easy to provide a nice, clean interface. There are a lot of references and dependencies in-between the different subareas."
"The solution could improve the ease of use, the management could be simplified. Other solutions are easier to use."
"The cost of the solution is pretty high. It would be ideal if it was more reasonable."
"It's a very expensive solution."
"LTM's cloud capabilities could be improved. Cloud providers all offer load balancing, but you can't get the same level of security. F5's cloud service is still not on par with its on-prem service."
"Cloud native integration should be provided."
"A feature that I would like to see included in the next version might be a better analysis when working with crypt issues. Right now, it is very manual; you load it into Alteon and it runs. It would be interesting to see a more dynamic process."
"Their support can be better. The Radware management is very proactive. We can connect to anybody in Radware Management in India. We can even connect with the MD of Radware India. However, their lower level staff should be more proactive towards the customers."
"We’d like the solution to include more security features in the standard license."
"I would like for the load balancing to work with premier and the cloud, a mix of premium and cloud."
"Scalability should be based on customer requirements."
"Load balancing needs improvement. It needs better integration. I heard f5 works as a DNS operator which is not available in this solution. It would be better if that was implemented."
"The reverse proxy piece is a little bit complicated. If the reverse proxy were easier to implement, that would help."
"I would like this solution to have an integration tool that will convert configuration from other software, into readable values for this product during implementation."

Apart from throughout consideration. Radware license charges based on throughput and F5 charges based on features only. For example, if you buy F5 with an appliance throughput of 10g that throughput available on day one, but if it's Radware, you will get a 1gbps license and hardware has 10gbps throughput. You can only use 1gbps on day one. On the load balancing side, both are equal only I rule is the game-changer. A lot of customization is possible with irule.
For ADC both are very good, But in the leader in Gartner of ADC products, the tops rivals are Citrix ADC and F5
They are very good and can do the job but only some major differences to consider are.
Citrix ADC - Has App Expert Wizard which is a GUI ready to use to build simple to complex traffic syntax rule easily. Any admin that has some good background sees this syntax can understand and configure, it is very easy. This is good for a big complex environment or in case your network admin leaves the job and new one comes to take the role.
GUI; Travesing each menu is very easy as they are all in the same pattern with every feature.
F5 - Use the iRule, which does the same job. If you like to write programming code with lots of { { } }, etc, it's ok. But for many admin teams, it may be hard to troubleshoot the traffics rules if the guy who wrote the rule left, not that hard to learn but still harder than GUI.
GUI- F5 GUI is sometimes too complex than needed, sometimes it's left, right, under have to drill down a lot just to get to the simple tasks.
Overall there are both good.
