Q&A Highlights
Question: What Is The Biggest Difference Between CA UIM and Manage Engine?
Answer: UIM is a very old, expensive, conglomeration of tools all written by different companies. ManageEngine has moderate capabilities but largely developed for smaller companies. If you read their reviews there is a great deal of angst with their support and implementation services. Also, they are all separate products built to be standalone so there is not the integration you would find in a true AIOps platform. They are also far more expensive than our offering. Pros
"We can manage the entire system across the network and troubleshoot the pain points."

"It is easy to implement but requires good planning.""The monitoring of the applications to let our business know when things are performing and that they're up and available.""It is reliable when it comes to monitoring.""Great out-of-the-box capability.""The real value is our being able to pull all the historic data that we need in order to gather every little metric and nuanced piece of information from a given device, a given piece of infrastructure, in order for us to generate alerts.""It is very scalable.""The ability to monitor any platform. We have Windows, Linux, AIX, and mainframe all being monitored with the same UIM infrastructure.""Easy admin functionality. You can quickly do all the admin functionality without reducing cycles."

More DX Unified Infrastructure Management Pros →

"We have found the solution to be stable.""Flexibility in the two view dashboard helps viewers and admins get the information they need about the fetwork in a flash.""You can put all of your work on there, they'll send you an email or send you a text. That functionality as a network engineer is the one I like the most. I do like the fact that we can schedule reports. That works too because that's a lot fewer spreadsheets that I have to create.""The product provides intensive reports.""The uptime and monitoring are valuable to us because we need to monitor the uptime of our services, the memory, and the CPUs.""Some of the most valuable features are the accessibility of the solution and the fact that it is simpler than other products. For example, discovering devices in the network is very simple, making it user-friendly.""The solution's most valuable feature is its ability to reach most of our network devices and get the most from them.""The traffic monitoring and the traffic analysis are great."

Cons
"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."

More Juniper Mist Premium Analytics Cons →

"A useful feature to have would be automatic configuration per standard by new robots that check in for any particular customer.""How we can get more native information from CA's solutions.""It is a little complex to use versus other softwares.""We had to do some work to make what was more of a business class solution work at an enterprise level.""The UIM has no features through goods and services yet. ""Currently lacks a mobile application which would be helpful.""In the UMP, certain devices will show up multiple times and they don't correlate correctly. That's one of the issues.""It would be good to implement views showing the aggregated status graphically."

More DX Unified Infrastructure Management Cons →

"The dashboard could include more features.""There should be an option to get mobile notifications or SMS mirror notifications for critical issues. That way, when we don't have access to email, we can still receive notifications via our phones.""The integration with various OEM products could be simplified.""ManageEngine OpManager could improve the default dashboards that are available. We are not able to customize them easily and they do not give us the information we need unless we customize them. You need to have the technical knowledge to be able to do it, the customization should be easier.""What I'd like ManageEngine OpManager to improve on is artificial intelligence. In particular, the machine learning feature should be integrated with the sensor flow. Doing this will give leverage, especially when you look at other products such as the Cisco DNA Center. When a switch goes down, I should be able to build on the correlation of other physical devices it's connected to so that I can integrate that with my CA CMDB. The ManageEngine OpManager team needs to draw a long-term roadmap where that feature becomes an integral part of the solution because right now, machine learning in ManageEngine OpManager is a long process. The solution doesn't have MLS search and I want to see ML being developed and applied for CA CMDB to greatly reduce the burden of tying everything. For example, if I have a data center switch that goes down now, I should know what server it's connected to, and when that switch goes down at twenty-four ports, I would get twenty-four alerts for different devices plugged in. I should be able to make a correlation that the major problem lies in the switch and not with the twenty-four elements connected to that switch. That is where machine learning should come into play and the ManageEngine OpManager AI should indicate "This is where the root of your problem is." It could be difficult, but this is a feature that should be improved or added to the solution.""Some of our customers have been asking that OpManager have a feature to monitor the operating system, however, I tell them that Endpoint Central is doing that. You can buy endpoints and then OpManager, and they integrate between them, and everything is okay.""The two views into the system are very good but could be extended to further customization to fit the need of end users in a variety of roles.""The storage level monitoring needs improvement. It needs storage level monitoring on the server itself. That feature is lacking right now."

  • "This product is expensive compared to other vendors (SolarWinds, ManageEngine)."
  • "The product-price ratio is better than other brands such as Fortinet or SonicWall."
  • "The license cost depends on the number of probes and robots."
  • "Reasonable setup cost and licensing prices."
  • "CAD $400,000 annually."
  • "Customers pay for the license and the support."
  • "Pricing for DX Unified Infrastructure Management isn't cheap at all. It's a complex tool, so you have to pay more. No one is happy with a large bill to pay, but if it's a complex product and you designed a complex solution to be monitored, it'll be your fault that you need to buy an expensive product, and that would be implicit in the design of DX Unified Infrastructure Management. Monitoring is just a small part of it. Sometimes you have to pay a significant amount of money for a complex yet very good solution."

  • "The initial cost is low and the add-ons are reasonable."

  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis and the pricing is on the cheaper side."
  • "In terms of pricing, I would rate it a two out of five. It was expensive."
