Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature is that it is journal-based and you don't have to replicate a lot of data.""It is a point-in-time restore, which is quite handy.""One of the standout features of Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines is its real-time data protection capability.""The installation is straightforward if the version you have is compatible with your infrastructure.""Point-in-time recovery and ease of deployment are valuable.""Continuous replication with lower RTO and RPO is the most innovative feature. Its tight integration with VMware for VMware VMs is also valuable.""The solution is quite stable. We haven't experienced any kind of bug or glitch. We haven't experienced crashes.""The most valuable features are the data center recovery administration and the time of recovery."

"The most useful feature is the one-click recovery.""One of the biggest features is that, even on the absolutely run-of-the-mill box, if I lose any one of my servers I can automatically bring it up virtually on the physical onQ Quorum device.""Quorum OnQ has a good ransomware protection feature, and customer service and support were very good.""A very high level security environment for secondary data.""When it comes to recovering what you need from a backup, it's really easy. You just drill through the directory, find the file and the date that you want, and click to recover. You then pick the directory you want to save it in. Usually, it takes a minute or two and it's done. It's quick and easy.""The change in the way that Quorum processes data has made a tremendous improvement in backup and replication times. While the familiar interface remains, the underpinnings have been finely tuned and the speed is incredible. My large Exchange Server went from 5- to 6-hour backups down to 22 minutes.""Quorum OnQ has taken the guesswork out of backup/recovery and disaster recovery.""I have used the BMR (Bare Metal Restore) in several emergencies and it has absolutely saved my bacon."

Cons
"The solution is not easy to use. It's actually quite hard. If it could be simplified it might be better for the end user.""In the next release of this software, I would like to see options that help to decrease the bandwidth required, such as compressing the data.""I would like to see integration with EMC NetWorker in the next release.""It would be good to have a critical application on the customer side.""I would like to have the HTML 5 interface working because it is currently not functioning with the VMware environment.""The configuration process seems a bit challenging, and the installation takes a bit longer than expected.""It should have features for recovering a group of virtual machines and full-scale security. For recovering all the VMs at once, they don't have a GUI option, and we have to use the command line.""It can have better integration. It would be good if, in addition to VMware VM, it can also support other hypervisors. I also want to see support for Oracle databases. As of now, it supports only SQL and Exchange. It would be good to also support other databases."

"It would be beneficial if file culling could be more granular.""I would like to see iSCSI support added so that NAS storage servers could be protected. We heavily utilize NAS storage and the risk there is minimal backup options. Currently, we are backing up NAS to NAS which is costly and slow. Being able to integrate NAS server backup would be the last item on my Quorum bucket list.""There seems to be a lack of technicians. Sometimes they are very busy and I don't hear back for a day or two. The technicians they have are great. They are fantastic, but it seems difficult, at times, to get in contact with anyone.""It feels to me like it's going to be a little bit more work than I originally anticipated when upgrading the appliance. I haven't done that yet so I can't speak from true experience, but I went through the project plan and it feels to me like there's quite a number of pieces and components and things that have to be done. Quorum is going to manage the rollout, but in starting the initial conversation there were a lot of unanswered questions""Lacks compatibility in terms of supporting other OS.""The one thing they could do is some tweaking on the web solution that's supposed to monitor everything from one page, rather than having to bring each server up on its own webpage. It doesn't always accurately show what the system's state is at the time, and we have to restart that process now and then.""Better integration with cloud-based solutions like Azure and Office 365 is needed.""The price of Quorum OnQ could be improved. We were exploring the product in terms of having a partnership with the distributor so that we could operate as a service, but for our own use, within the company, we couldn't justify the price unless the servers would become an option later on. The upfront cost of purchasing a license for the hardware is quite steep."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This is not a very cheap solution and compared to others, it is expensive."
  • "This is an expensive product."
  • "Pricing-wise, it is pretty much fair for any customer who only has a VMware environment. Licensing is based on the number of VMs that you want to protect at any given point in time. Licensing is not based on size."
  • "There is a license required for this solution and the pricing depends on how many virtual machines you have."
  • "It was a part of a backup solution. So, it was free for us."

  • "We have never questioned whether it is worth it because it so obviously is a great value."
  • "When we first got the Quorum the licensing was different."
  • "The cost is higher than other software and services, but it is an absolute must-have."
  • "The total for our current solution's licensing is about $14,000 for 12 servers for three years."
  • "The pricing is about $1,400 a month. It's a little bit on the higher side. But it's one of those situations where time is valuable for me. So if it costs a little bit more money for me to have a solution that just works and requires less of my day-to-day management, I'm willing to pay a little bit more."
  • "The initial expenditure for us was a little under $40,000 for the recent renewal. For the first three years after that, other than electricity, there's no cost. After that, their support contract has to be renewed annually. We spent close to $6,000, between the two offices, for support."
  • "When we quote the price of Quorum to customers, they find it expensive."
  • "The upfront cost of purchasing a license for the hardware is quite steep."
