We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops is a stable solution.""Stable product with straightforward setup.""The shadow feature is extraordinary and helps a lot when supporting remote users.""XenApp is a fast, secure and reliable solution for remote connections that is completely different than and superior to older Windows solutions.""For our company's customers, I feel that the product is stable.""First of all, the manageability of the applications for publishing is valuable. Second, it is about being able to run the applications on all main platforms. Third, its licensing is valuable. You can either switch to the cloud and keep on-prem. You can work with this hybrid scenario.""Centralization and security are the most valuable features of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.""In terms of scalability, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops have a lot of technologies baked in there that allow an organization to scale up or down, as required. Further, leveraging Azure for scalability has added value to our organization. For example, pre-COVID-19, we had very few resources in Azure. We had some Virtual Desktops and no application servers. When COVID-19 came along, we knew people were going to be home. We knew that we had to ramp up very quickly. We fully leveraged MCS to be able to scale. Being able to take a single image and build 400,000 Virtual Desktops, all within minutes, was second to none in terms of any other technology out there that we could have used. The scalability to be able to do that in Azure, where we really don't have to worry about storage and compute power because Microsoft does that for us, was fantastic. It was almost like giving our environments steroids. It has been amazing in terms of that scalability. Now, as people start coming back to the office, we can just as quickly scale down so the compute and resource costs in Azure aren't so great anymore."

"It is a stable solution. It is wonderful for multi-user environments, and it supports different virtual machines and operating systems. You can go for any kind of virtual machine. It has many features, especially for a call center. You don't have the issue of computers going down from time to time. You just need to copy the virtual machine to deploy it. You also don't need many people to maintain computers. With Horizon 7, you just need one or two people.""I appreciate the ability to have a more centralized environment.""The ease of deployment is one of the most valuable features. If I want to install something, I can have a test phase to see what sort of impact it will have and whether it will affect production. So I can install it on my lab, make sure it is okay, and if it is, I can deploy it directly to the users or to the staff.""The most valuable features are the ability to manage a great number of desktops at once and the remote access for users who are working from outside of the office or from a different office in the country.""We like that VMware is the top competitor in virtualization.""It offers great flexibility, allowing us to access it as a complete virtual machine or even just as individual applications.""The solution has enabled us to offer a secure desktop experience to our remote users. This ensures that our personally identifiable information and HIPAA data remain protected, eliminating the risk of being copied to a local, potentially mobile, device. Everything is contained within a centralized structure.""The most valuable feature of this solution is secure remote access to resources."

Cons
"Our experience of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops is good, but the environment can become complex and difficult to manage at times.""The support offered by Citrix's partner needs to improve. The partner support platform should aim to provide more technical information to users.""The video conferencing feature needs to be improved.""As an end-to-end solution for implementing Zero Trust principles I would rate it a six or a seven out of 10, because it doesn't cover all aspects of Zero Trust. There are quite a few aspects you need to cover.""If Citrix can develop something which can have more reach towards the backend infrastructure, other components of the Citrix environment, that would be ideal.""If anything could be improved, it might be some of the Director functionality, and some of the dashboard customization, or the overall Director customization.""Scalability depends on the server and the number of users in the organization.""There is room for improvement on the hypervisor side, providing better integration between the hypervisor and the product line. I suspect that they haven't put the work into that because of the move to the cloud. They want everything to be cloud-hosted. But for folks like us, who will always be a hybrid model, that's of some concern."

More Citrix DaaS (formerly Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops service) Cons →

"The multimedia playback is not very good and they could improve it by increasing the quality.""I would highlight the challenges related to integrating with Microsoft Azure services. Specifically, there are issues with MDM-managed devices and the necessity for MDM-managed compliant devices. In the non-persistent horizon model, there's a delay before each new desktop becomes compliant. Users can access these desktops before fully onboard into the MDM solution.""There are some issues with RAM in the system.""VMware Horizon 7 could improve by supporting the active-active data center. At this time we are only deploying it in the production environment. Our customer is considered to deploy the VMware Horizon 7 to a secondary data center, but we found out that it cannot fully support the user in the deployment in the active-active data center. Any improvement on this would be beneficial.""The support team's technicalities and the pricing of the solution need improvement.""VMware Horizon could be improved with more integration. It is also very costly for Enterprise Plus, which is a drawback. The renewal costs for the license are very, very high.""I would like to see the VDP or other features for backing up the VMs.""There is room for improvement in the pricing model."
