We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I have always gotten a call back within an hour from CA's technical support solutions and they are a wonderful team to work with.""The scalability is outstanding. We're able to scale it to any size of data that we want. We can do small data sets, we can do large data sets.""Data privatization (GDPR enable), synthetic test data generation, and test data provisioning are its main interesting features.""It saves us time from generating the same amount of data in real-time.""Data generation, data masking, and data subsetting are three key features of this tool.""When I run my App Test, I can directly connect with TDM. I can publish all my data into one table in TDM, then run my App Test directly.""It removes manual intervention. A lot of the time that we've spent previously was always manually, as an individual running SQL scripts against databases, or manually going through a UI to create data. These solutions allow us to incorporate automation and self-service to eliminate all of our manual efforts.""There is other stuff that they are working on right now, and that includes things like the vTDM or Virtual Test Data Management. That is where they have the ability to do test data clones. It is really neat because after doing some of that creation, or if you are going to do some subsetting, then you have a great looking database."

"It does not require our involvement to run it. It runs in the background and the people that do the reporting do so. The reports go to the directors who are in charge of the various data areas. It's pretty clean. Clearly there is some setup, but after you get it set up it just goes.""he solution offers trouble-free access.""You could easily throw it onto a VM or add additional hardware. One central manager supports about a hundred managed units, so scalability is excellent.""Provides a unified key management system to help simplify encryption key management.""It's allowing us to be more proactive than reactive on alerts and access rights and types of resources that are being hit. Before, there were a lot of different solutions, but this expanded that out and made it a more holistic solution. It provides centralization of monitoring, instead of multiple, disparate applications. It definitely allows more economies of scale, streamlining, less fragmented use.""Audit Process Builder – Workflow generator to enhance audit tasks and compliance workflows.""The most valuable feature is the GUI, the interface. It also interfaces well with REST API, if you want to automate some of the commands.""It tests security to support SOX compliance."

Cons
"I would say implementing test data management requires a lot of effort and time...Even if you have experienced people, it takes time.""As the solution continues to evolve, the one thing I like about it is the API-friendly layers that they have added into the realm. So, I just would like to see more support around that and more usability.""All financial institutions are based on mainframes, so they're never going to go away. There are ppportunities to increase functionality and efficiencies within the mainframe solution, within this TDM product.""The relationship between cables needs to be added.""When we publish a lot data into the target, sometimes it is not able to handle it.""The integration with various utilities is also really important. That still has to happen. That's a major area for improvement.""It has a feature called TDM Portal, where testers can find test data by themselves, based on multiple models. They can reserve the data so that it belongs to one group or individual. Obviously, that data is not available to anybody else... This feature is for one environment. But if a different group of testers wanted that data for a different environment, they can't use it via CA TDM. That feature doesn't exist.""They should make the Portal a little more user-friendly, make it even easier to configure things directly from the Portal."

More Broadcom Test Data Manager Cons →

"The documentation could be better.""Sometimes the connectors to the databases need to be manually updated and we have to configure them again, which is something that should be improved.""The technical support is very poor.""Guardium Data Protection is far better in terms of external integration. But in terms of firewall features, like when you're blocking activities, it's as if Oracle AVDF simply has superior features. This is just from third-party observations, but the users of Oracle AVDF are saying that when it comes to the firewall and protection functionality, they're much more inclined to AVDF.""It was difficult implementing it, configuring it, getting it up and running and in production. However, since then, I believe it has stabilized.""An area for improvement would be the user interface - currently, it takes around two to three months to become comfortable using it.""Since we are resellers we do not have enough information about the technical aspects and the areas of improvement. However, one consistent report that we receive from our customers is that IBM does not offer timely support due to the size of the organisation. It would be great if they could improve their response time.""Initially it did not have support external applications like, say, Tableau, ServiceNow, Remedy, and the like. They have started growing into it, but I would like to have more and more integration with outside applications."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It can be scaled for as many licenses as the customer is willing to pay. It's kind of expensive."
  • "Know all the data requirements before buying this product. There are a lot of features for this tool, which may or may not be useful to a particular company. Make sure of what your requirements for your data are."
  • "Part of the licensing is dependent on whether you want to use the portal. It's based on floating users. The other part is dependent on what type of system you are using. We are using mainframe, so we paid good money for a mainframe license."
  • "The cost of this tool is pretty high... CA provides licenses for different utilities like masking but even if you break it up, the pricing is still high."
  • "I would rate Broadcom TDM's pricing as four out of five."
  • "My company makes yearly payments toward the licensing costs. So, I consider the licensing costs to be expensive, especially considering what I have heard from my colleagues."
  • "Mainly, we compete with the IBM team and Informatica, and if you compare the license cost, Broadcom is too flexible. Depending on the customer's budget, we suggest they buy only respective SKUs, and it's much cheaper compared to others because we have gone over multiple deals where pricing was never a factor in differentiating products."
  • "The tool's pricing is high."

  • "We haven't talked much about pricing and licencing. But it is not cheap for sure"
  • "I would suggest to review the type of data, need for security, and if the organizational structure needs the options IBM Guardium provides."
  • "If you are researching this type of solution, work with IBM."
  • "Guardium has not saved us time or money."
  • "The biggest challenge is the cost associated with the product, and the cost of maintaining. Everything is not translated directly to the benefits we see. There are benefits, yes, but if I were writing the check, would I buy Guardium? No."
  • "Guardium won mostly because of our scope and scale. It was able to perform at the scale that we wanted to use it. "
  • "The price of Guardium is higher than the main competitor, Imperva. In addition, it's complex as the calculation of the licensing is done by Processor Value Unit (PVU). However, before purchasing a DAP solution, it is important to analyze specific points to evaluate the cost-benefit of each tool. For example: Does the environment to be monitored have mainframes? If so, it's a point for Guardium. If not, a point for Imperva. Note: IBM is looking into a new licensing policy and reducing the price of Guardium."
  • "One of the deployments that I know of had three databases, and the yearly fees are approximately $50,000 USD."
