We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Other features we use heavily are the WiFi analyzer, the Skype for Business analyzer, and the troubleshooting functionalities. We also use the Device Health quite religiously here for troubleshooting devices that are unhealthy, when we're talking about things like high CPU or memory consumption, or file system problems within the users' workstations.""The user experience it provides is the most valuable feature for us.""There are many valuable features. If I had to single out one, it would be the UXI score. That's a proprietary Aternity score that tells you how good or bad the experience is for a user on that particular machine, for a particular app. It neatly encapsulates the pain of the user in a single score. It's very easy to find issues and then drill down further into those issues, based on that score.""The item we use the most and what upper management wants is the SLA reports. It's a good summary of how the applications are performing over time from month to month.""It is useful for working out whether there are any issues in the network or between the endpoints. It is also useful for working out any performance issues. It has been useful for a lot of stuff around Teams. Our customers like to know what's happening with Teams when they call in. It is helpful for easily profiling users. It records all the applications that are being used for each user, and you can see what users are doing. It is very good in terms of performance. You don't have to wait forever to try and get reports or results. It is quite quick to get everything that you need out of the software.""Aternity provides metrics about actual employee experience of all business-critical apps, rather than just a few. It does some out-of-the-box monitoring for the Office suite, but you can create custom monitoring for any of your applications, whether a web client or a desktop application.""The most valuable feature is the application performance troubleshooting because Aternity is able to provide the performance from the end-user perspective. It doesn't just give the standard application logon time, etc., rather it's also able to measure the performance inside the application, the performance of specific transactions in the application, and break it down into three elements: the client time, the network time, and the server time. This gives us a lot of insights into what we need to focus on to improve the performance of an application.""As a financial institution, we have a lot of applications that are either written internally or bought from a vendor and customized for us. Having a tool that lets us monitor specific transactions in those applications allows us to focus on the transactions that are important to the business."

"Some of the best features of eG are, in terms of APM, they have complete modules between application performance monitoring, server monitoring, and even storage and network-based monitoring. The UI is also quite good. They have some standard AI-based capabilities, even though it's not quite as advanced when compared to Dynatrace. eG has some good, basic APM capabilities.""The GUI is nicer than all the other graphical interfaces out there.""The auto-configuration or auto-Thresholding is very important because it saves a phenomenal amount of labor and setup costs and time.""The topology view which provides a visual representation of a service and quickly allows identification of errors or degraded performance.""EG monitors all infrastructure elements (all OS, all database, storage, network, and web server) from a single console.""The ability to see what the end user response is, so I can get a better understanding of what the end user is seeing when they connect to the Citrix servers.""It gives good insight into inside of what's going on with Exchange.""What I like about eG Enterprise is that it's easy to use. It's a simple product. You can get up to seventy-five to eighty percent of the required information based on real user experience and diagnostics."

Cons
"Reliability: Issues interfering with the deployment and use of the product has made its use reduced in scope.""When they moved from Version 8 to Version 9, the customers lost so much control of what they could do with the product.""Some of the dashboarding and reporting on the analytics side could be improved. I think they realize it. Obviously, some of the desktop monitoring metrics always can be improved.""The thing that I think most companies like ourselves would want would be an easier way to customize custom scripts.""To monitor these transactions, you need to look at it, analyze it and capture it. It requires a little bit of work, but in an environment like ours, you need it to be easier.""When it comes to a lot of the features that I would want, they will tell you they are in their SaaS version, which we don't use... They put all the new features on the SaaS solution and that's where you get the latest and greatest stuff... Why not have those features available for on-prem users?""I would say the reporting capabilities of this product could use room for improvement.""I would like Alluvio Aternity to be certified by the IRAP for petrol companies in Australia."

More Alluvio Aternity Cons →

"Application TCP latency is an area with room for improvement, but I believe this is already on the roadmap.""In terms of sales or market perspective, they must invest in Latin America with professionals with a more marked presence.""Back-end configuration is not easy to implement.""In terms of areas for improvement in eG Enterprise, we are now moving most of our services to the OpenShift platform, and we need a way to monitor even containerized services or any service deployed on OpenShift, but that feature is still not available in eG Enterprise, so it's not good enough for us.""The UI looks a little dated and could do with a refresh.""I can understand why they designed the user interface (UI) the way they did, but sometimes in the management of the eG Manager, it can be a bit clunky.""Dashboards are difficult to create, and not so useful.""eG Enterprise's licensing could be cheaper. Even compared to Dynatrace, I think the price is quite expensive considering the APM functionalities, even though they have other benefits such as info monitoring."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Our management squeezed Aternity pretty hard on the pricing, in my opinion a little too much. I advise negotiating for sure, but I do think it left kind of a sour taste in Aternity’s mouth that we were being so pushy despite the fact that we were only purchasing a small number of licenses."
  • "It’s a little on the costly side, but if you license intelligently, accounting for your various hosts connecting in through VDI or terminal servers, you can make it well worth your money."
  • "If the scale of your monitoring will be to go everywhere in an organization, a site license is key."
  • "Pricing is a bit high. Don't take that as the "be all, end all"."
  • "In my opinion they are asking a lot for their SaaS solution, but I also know that that's the direction they're going... The current, on-prem solution is probably a fair price."
  • "The pricing for the users and agents is reasonable compared to other solutions and vendors."
  • "Regarding cost, compared to other solutions, Aternity is pretty low. It's definitely lower-cost than others that we looked at, like Nexthink."
  • "The pricing is fair."

  • "You may get some monitoring products with certain licensing you may own. Some of these can take ages to configure and setup, along with needing a license to drive the software."
  • "If using eG for virtual desktops, carefully calculate whether per named user, per concurrent user, or per server"
  • "It'd be nice if the price was lower. That would be an improvement."
  • "They are aligned with other enterprise solutions."
  • "It is not expensive."
  • "They gave us a good price, when they were found out we were looking at other products because their price was very high. We were looking at another solution, then we came back to them was because they brought the price down. We selected them for three years."
  • "We paid about 300,000 Saudi Riyal for the solution and it was quite affordable compared to the competition."
  • "There are two licensing options: Perpetual and SaaS-based. The main offering, in terms of what eG prefers to offer, is the subscription-based rather than the Perpetual License. The price could be cheaper."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Aternity users.

PeerSpot user Ryan P., Head of Cyber Security Engineering & Oversight at a media company, says, "The most valuable thing that you get from Aternity is very broad visibility. You get visibility of your network, of your endpoints, of your software usage, your application performance, capacity, in one pane of glass. We had 20 to 30 IT tools, including application performance monitoring, network monitoring, security, endpoint detection, network protection, capacity management, service management — every kind of monitoring you can imagine. But Aternity was always the first place that I turned for anything, because you can see everything in it."

An Endpoint Administration Manager at a financial services firm mentions, “It gives you the ability to filter the comparison by geography, industry, or company size.” He also adds, “We have absolutely seen ROI. It's really given us a very high level of visibility that we've just not ever had.”

A Regional Network Manager at a recruiting/HR firm comments, "Aternity provides metrics about actual employee experience of all business-critical apps, rather than just a few. It does some out-of-the-box monitoring for the Office suite, but you can create custom monitoring for any of your applications, whether a web client or a desktop application."

A Sr. IT Manager at a manufacturing company states, "The most valuable feature is the application performance troubleshooting because Aternity is able to provide the performance from the end-user perspective. It doesn't just give the standard application logon time, etc., rather it's also able to measure the performance inside the application, the performance of specific transactions in the application, and break it down into three elements: the client time, the network time, and the server time. This gives us a lot of insights into what we need to focus on to improve the performance of an application."
