We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's given us the ability to create various real-time network performance reports and distribute them to any colleague who can access these reports immediately.""SevOne has rich API capabilities, giving us the flexibility to control what we collect and customize the collection, creation, and manipulation of now metrics as necessary.""One of the most valuable features is the graphs, which you can build instantly. I have used some open-source platforms in the past, but they are not as good. With SevOne, the sampling in the graph can be every few seconds, not just every few minutes, and that's really helpful. It's really fast.""I like the tool’s scalability and real-time reports. Earlier, we struggled to give real-time reports to clients. I also like the tool’s deployment model where we can deploy it either on-premises or in-house. We don’t have to carry the data all over the globe. Also, I am impressed with the tool's flow reporting and Wi-Fi.""The most valuable feature as of late has been the API integration with ServiceNow.""The automation feature is good because if your CMDB is OK and it is already in sync, then the automation part is good to go.""We find that the reporting is particularly valuable in terms of not only communicating with our peer teams but also with the executives.""In 90% of the cases, new devices are plug-and-play, so when a new version comes out then SevOne has support for it out of the box."

"The most valuable feature of the solution is the ease of deployment that it provides to users. The integrations that the product has with third-party applications are useful.""Vulnerability scanning helped out shortcomings of what was not patched in the past and what needed to be patched. This assisted with fine tuning the environment for compliance.""The ease of implementation is the most valuable feature.""We had used previous products and found AlienVault centralized the logging for our security.""The new cloud-based panel is excellent both for client review as well as for our SOC to review and respond to threats. It is much easier to configure and use than the previous solution from AlienVault.""As we have to service several servers, we can manage them in a economical way, which is beneficial to our team and business.""The setup is very easy and straightforward.""This solution can identify many threats inside the organization (compromised endpoints, configuration issues), as well as "outside" threats (botnets, network scanners, web-attacks, etc)."

Cons
"The customizations are very hard. The person doing it has to be very good at analytics and has to be very good in all languages""In terms of having a complete view of our network performance, I would rate it a nine out of 10. The reason for not giving it a 10 is that there is no packet capture associated with SevOne, but we do have other tools in place to do that.""We need to be thinking about streaming telemetry protocols. They already have the port for enhanced visualization, which they already have through Data Insight.""With the administrative management of the appliance, if some object appears from SevOne because something changed in the network or whatever, then as an administrator you will not be aware. If you are using this object in a report, this object will disappear from the report and you will not be aware of it. So, if you have 1,000 reports, you cannot always check these reports everyday to see if objects are missing or information has disappeared. We don't have any information on alerts, saying that something is happening there and maybe we need to take action. If an object was replaced by another one, or if a link was replaced by another one, then the graph needs to be changed because it doesn't exist in the graph anymore. However, we don't have this information.""You need to plan integrations. That has been the biggest bug with SevOne so far. For the things that SevOne pulls directly, those are easy to understand, modify, and put into the database. For things that need to use the Universal Collector or xStats, you need to plan that stuff well in advance.""Some similar solutions offer end-to-end visibility.""High-frequency polling is data-intensive because you're pulling more. If SevOne could figure out a way to manage the impact of high-frequency polling on the system, that would be very popular.""The method of searching for SIP and the way to create the groups."

More IBM SevOne Network Performance Management (NPM) Cons →

"AT&T AlienVault USM can improve searchable data. It should be available for more than 90 days. If you need more than 90 days of data, you have to put a request and they give you raw data, which is not easy to search. A good addition would be to allow users to search data older than 90 days.""Pay attention to false-positive event automatic correlations.""The reporting and dashboards have room for improvement.""Source material on the forums to be more up-to-date with the changes happening within the product. Forums being out-of-date with information due to the changes makes troubleshooting a little more difficult - specific to the HIDS agents.""For creating new rules, you have to be familiar with regular expressions. I feel there could be something built-in to make sure that process is easier.""The lack of mature functionality and expertise in any of those areas is a strong negative.""The only room for improvement I can mention is the initial installation procedures. I found that the online installation instructions for the product were missing important details, they lacked necessary steps.""The one thing I continue to dislike about the USM is the limitation on reports."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Have a bank of licenses, because it is about the number of objects (RAM, ports, CPU, etc.)."
  • "Choose a SevOne partner who can provide SevOne as a service and can deliver professional services and maintenance."
  • "It is inexpensive compared to other monitoring tools."
  • "Prices per license are not huge, but they exist."
  • "There are cheaper solutions available."
  • "The pricing has been fair."
  • "Many tools price things based on the number of KPIs that you're collecting around a device. In many cases, there could be hundreds of metrics that you need to collect. SevOne provides device-level pricing. That gives us the flexibility to turn on, and expand on, the metrics that we're collecting around those devices, without taking a financial hit."
  • "The pricing has not evolved with the market, which is one of the reasons we are moving to a new product."

  • "AlienVault is flexible on their pricing for unlimited licenses."
  • "Pricing is very competitive with other products and you get much more functionality from AlienVault."
  • "QRadar, ArcSight and Splunk are some of the most expensive SIEM products out there in the market and not everyone has the budget to buy them. In such cases, AV USM is a very cost effective alternative."
  • "Do the one month trial and try to work out the kinks during it, as it has free support and service hours."
  • "We checked out several competitors. For what it can do and the cost, it was the best option!"
