Seamless integration enhances workflows while memory optimization can improve complex processes
I am working with all of these products: Pega, Appian, and OutSystems. I use Appian as a process orchestrator for workflow and rule-based routing, and it is preferred when I am developing an enterprise-wide application. The application is mobile-friendly, allowing me to use it across any device…

Helps to transform an organization from a paper-based system to a paperless one using a workflow engine
The tool's most valuable feature is knowing the KPIs and SLAs. This means you can see who's responsible for approving or rejecting requests. You'll know which employees are slow to take action, so you can see who's being lazy. You get a report at the month's or year's end to see how active employees are and if they support the system. This helps make things faster and easier for everyone. Tracking activity is the main point, so you can see how employees use the system. We rely on it as the backbone of our processes. It allows us to create self-service requirements, processes, and applications. Integrating the tool with other applications was very easy. They provide REST services, making integration straightforward. Additionally, they offer documentation in the cloud, which makes the integration process even easier. It regularly updates and enhances its services every quarter, which has benefitted us greatly. It's easy for a beginner to work with the solution for the first time. Oracle provides materials and live labs that make learning and getting started with the platform easy.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I find the BPM the most valuable feature."
"Technical support has been amazing overall."
"The most valuable features of Appian are the VPN engine, it is fast, lightweight, and easy to set up business rules. Business teams can do it by themselves. That is a very good feature."
"SAIL (Self-Assembling Interface Layer), a scripting language provided by Appian. It is the equivalent of JS and CSS. It allows creation of complex UIs which are also responsive. With SAIL, we have a single language for both the UI logic and its appearance. UI components can be built as reusable components and used in multiple UI interfaces."
"This is the most complete solution of its kind."
"Appian helps you do a lot of things. It's easy to configure and build an application platform, and it offers a lot of features that you find in an RPA solution. It's flexible so you can reuse it for a variety of use cases."
"It reduces development time in half making us more efficient."
"Appian's most valuable features are the quick time it takes to develop for the market. It's easy and faster than other BPM solutions."
"The tool's most valuable feature is knowing the KPIs and SLAs. This means you can see who's responsible for approving or rejecting requests. You'll know which employees are slow to take action, so you can see who's being lazy. You get a report at the month's or year's end to see how active employees are and if they support the system. This helps make things faster and easier for everyone. Tracking activity is the main point, so you can see how employees use the system."
"Pega is a local platform that has evolved from a BPM perspective. This allows teams using this solution to address complexities without having deep knowledge in a specific development area."
"Application development is very rapid. A lot of code gets reused while building the applications, which is something we highly appreciate."
"It is a stable product."
"The stability has been good. We haven't had any issues."
"The solution is operating well overall."
"Pega's technical support team is very helpful and I would rate them ten out of ten."
"There is a feature to accelerate the development so that business analysts can directly create their user stories and assign the task to the developers."
"We find the product to be scalable."

Cons

"It would be nice if you could create your own customized apps when the business needed them."
"Appian could be improved by making it a strict, no-code platform with free-built process packs."
"There could be a scope of enhancement for capturing the variety of use cases."
"The solution could use some more tutorials to help brand new users figure out how to use the product effectively."
"The UI of Appian is more internal. Recently, there has been an addition of an external user portal for the customer-facing stuff. It's still coming out."
"Appian could include other applications that we could reuse for other customers, CRM for example."
"Even though the company has made great improvements in online documentation, featuring rich material which includes case studies of real-life use cases, the material could definitely be better in quality and coverage of use cases."
"I would like to see more enhancement in the user interface to allow more freedom in designing the sites and pages."
"The tool was perfect on-prem, but issues cropped up when it transitioned to the cloud. Some features, such as event listeners, have been suspended or deprecated, causing inconvenience for users who relied on them for sending tasks via WhatsApp or SMS."
"They need to support the solution better, at this time the company does not have enough support."
"I think there is room for improvement in the low code/ no code environment that they're promoting now. That needs to be aligned a little bit more. I still feel that it is not that friendly for a person who has no experience with Pega to just go in and try to create something."
"We need more light retail BPM tools within the Pega system. However, Pega is mostly for big companies."
"There is room for potential improvement in the performance of PegaRULES, as well as the need to address any existing security concerns. It should be noted that working with an older version of Pega, rather than the latest 8.x versions, may limit certain capabilities and leave room for vulnerabilities that could benefit from increased attention. Furthermore, the user interface (UI) could be a candidate for enhancements. It is worth mentioning that newer versions of Pega may have introduced improvements in these areas."
"Pega currently is trying to add chatbots to their systems, and it's still quite immature. This part definitely needs to be improved."
"Compared to other BPM products, the interface is somewhat complex, so the usability could be improved."
"The local development approach is good in Pega, however, cost-wise, it's getting expensive. That needs to be addressed."
"The UI has always been the weakest part."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"When it comes to pricing, it's definitely not affordable. However, it really depends on the requirements that you're seeking from the solution."
"It is expensive, but powerful. I would recommend comparing against cheaper licensing products and open source."
"The tool is quite costly."
"More flexibility in the licensing model is still needed because initially there were customers who are looking at only one or two use cases of business areas, but now the business areas are changing and there is a larger scope. One license model may not fit everyone. They need to be a little more flexible on the licensing model."
"The licensing will be on a monthly basis. We are estimating that cost to be around $2000 to maybe $3,000 per month. We don't foresee any costs above that."
"The price is high."
"The cost is a bit higher than other low-code competitors, OutSystems and Mendix. The price needs to be more competitive."
"We will have to have a dialogue or negotiate a price for future use. To start with, it is a reasonable price. As we go ahead, we will have to make sure the costs are inline with our expectations as we grow our user base and workloads."
"You select your message pack from multiple options, and your payment is based on your actual usage. This means you don't have to buy a bundle upfront; instead, you pay according to your consumption, including the number of messages sent"
"Users have to pay a yearly license cost for Pega BPM, which is expensive."
"The licensing fees are based on the number of users."
"Its pricing is on the higher side, but they have come up with different plans and different small products that can be used by smaller organizations that don't have that much money to spend. They have different pricing packages depending on the number of users or depending upon the number of cases created in the production or live environment."
"This upgrade process is very expensive; although I haven't been on the sales team responsible for the pricing, I know it costs millions of dollars."
"The licensing is on a yearly basis. Because of our special relationship, all the training certifications are free of cost. All our employees can do Pega certifications at zero cost. It is all on Pega."
"The solution could be less expensive according to my customers. However, I think the price of the solution is fair."
"The product pricing is considered reasonable compared to other solutions in the market."
"Licensing is expensive. You need to wisely select between per user and per case."
