Archives emails and files, providing indexes for searching the archives
Pros and Cons
  • "The tool streamlines data discovery processes for compliance by setting up a gateway to copy every incoming and outgoing email to the archive independently of the mailbox. This ensures that even if a user deletes their mailbox, the emails are still available in the archive, making it a compliant solution for monitoring all incoming and outgoing emails. Additionally, it offers the ability to place legal holds on important emails."
  • "The tool has had some scalability issues, but now that it's offered as a cloud service, it's easier to manage. However, setting it up isn't as straightforward as it used to be, and there may be limitations with the support provided during setup and testing. Also, the quality of support has declined in the past year."

What is our primary use case?

Veritas Enterprise Vault.cloud archives emails and files, providing indexes for searching the archives. It integrates with Outlook as a plugin and speeds up backup. However, with the deployment of Office 365, it now focuses on archiving and protecting emails. It serves as a legal protection tool.

What is most valuable?

The tool streamlines data discovery processes for compliance by setting up a gateway to copy every incoming and outgoing email to the archive independently of the mailbox. This ensures that even if a user deletes their mailbox, the emails are still available in the archive, making it a compliant solution for monitoring all incoming and outgoing emails. Additionally, it offers the ability to place legal holds on important emails.

The user experience and administrative interface for managing archives are easy. It's not complex to use.

What needs improvement?

The tool has had some scalability issues, but now that it's offered as a cloud service, it's easier to manage. However, setting it up isn't as straightforward as it used to be, and there may be limitations with the support provided during setup and testing. Also, the quality of support has declined in the past year.

How was the initial setup?

Setting up the product depends on the deployment method. Gathering the required information takes a while. The setup itself takes about two to three days. Starting the process involves weeks of communication. This includes setting up various environments and deciding on archiving policies, which can be challenging.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The tool is expensive, and I rate its price as eight out of ten. It might not be very expensive. However, comparing it with something that's free or already included in the price is challenging, like the Office 365 archive mailbox. Previously, this was part of the subscription price. Now, it's an additional cost, typically covered by departments like legal or compliance rather than IT.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend the solution's cloud version. It's easier to manage compared to the on-premises solution, especially concerning upgrade processes, which often caused issues in the past. Additionally, with the cloud version, the management is outsourced once you set the policies. Overall, it's akin to having insurance for your data, which you will be happy if you never use.

I rate the overall product an eight out of ten.

Improves regulatory compliance and efficient information governance feature
Pros and Cons
  • "Organizations can streamline governance processes and improve compliance by utilizing automated classification to tag and categorize data."
  • "The platform's price could be affordable for small businesses."

What needs improvement?

The platform's price could be affordable for small businesses.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Veritas Enterprise Vault for seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the platform's stability a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We manage around 40 customers for Veritas Enterprise Vault from the banking sector.

How was the initial setup?

The installation process is complicated. It could be improved. However, we have dedicated certified engineers working on its implementation. Customers need help to install it.

It is time-consuming, depending on the specific workloads and work models. It isn't easy to classify the components. One must study the detailed procedure very well.

What other advice do I have?

Veritas Enterprise Vault is a robust solution primarily targeted towards enterprise customers, especially those with stringent compliance requirements, such as those in the banking sector. It helps archive crucial data and manages information governance.

Organizations can streamline governance processes and improve compliance by utilizing automated classification to tag and categorize data. Integrating automated classification, DLP, and Veritas solutions strengthens lateral prevention measures.

While the trend towards migrating from on-premises Exchange to Office 365 may impact the relevance of Veritas Enterprise Vault for many customers, there are still significant use cases where the product remains highly valuable. Particularly in regions where regulatory compliance and data sovereignty concerns make cloud adoption challenging for some organizations, Enterprise Vault continues to play a crucial role.

It aligns well with the customers' needs for data retention and compliance. I rate it a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
