Offers cost-effectiveness and flexible features
Pros and Cons
  • "It is a very scalable solution."
  • "The high cost of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."

What is our primary use case?

The product serves as my company's enterprise email security platform. Everything related to the emails in my company comes through Proofpoint Email Protection.

What is most valuable?

The product serves as an email sandbox to check attachments and ensure that everything is secure.

What needs improvement?

The whole configuration management piece of the product requires some work, as it is one of the areas where the tool has certain shortcomings. Though it is an easy-to-install product, it might be difficult to get the process right for some users. The basics related to the installation process are simple to understand, but it takes a lot of effort to figure out areas to use this tool effectively if you want to do something above the basic level.

The high cost of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required.

I would like to see a lot of premium content in the product moved to a lower band because the basic version of the tool is relatively cheap compared to the sophisticated versions with additional costs.

One person who works full-time needs to take care of the maintenance part.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Proofpoint Email Protection for six months. I am a customer of the product. I don't remember the version of the solution, but I know that it automatically gets updated.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

The product seems to work fine in our company. Though my company needs to make changes in the product occasionally, it is a robust tool.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a very scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a seven to eight out of ten.

In our company, we doubled the number of mailboxes with the product, and it worked fine without any problems.

With the solution, my company manages around 500 endpoints in our company.

The product is used daily for every email in my company.

When it comes to the solution, there are no plans to increase the number of endpoints in our company unless the organization grows.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have experience with Trend Micro. My company started using Proofpoint Email Protection since Trend Micro was a terrible product.

How was the initial setup?

I rate the initial setup phase a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is a difficult process, and ten is an easy process.

The product is deployed as part of your Proofpoint setup, so it gets attached to your Microsoft Exchange and the cloud.

Before the deployment of the product, you need to change your email gateway to ensure that the tool works properly for you. You need to route your email through Proofpoint.

The solution is deployed on the cloud.

The solution's deployment took two weeks.

In my company, three people reporting to the IT security team take care of the product's deployment process.

What about the implementation team?

My company did seek the help of a consultant to take care of the product's installation process.

What was our ROI?

The product does not make any money for your company. If something goes wrong, the tool can save money by reducing the risk of problems at the end of the day.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product is costly. I rate the product price a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price.

When you want to change what capabilities you want in the product, you will see that the tool offers such features in tiers. The product gets expensive if you buy one of the tool's top-tiers.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

My company did look at the options against Proofpoint Email Protection, like Mimecast and Microsoft 365 E5. Proofpoint Email Protection was cost-effective and flexible for our organization. The product has also proven itself as a leader in the market.

What other advice do I have?

Proofpoint Email Protection helps prevent block phishing attempts. The product does a lot of URL rewriting. The solution offers pretty good protection to users.

Proofpoint Email Protection has aided in the management of our organization's email security, but I would say that the tool has probably made it more complicated. It's not an easy product to use or configure, as it takes skill and knowledge to install and configure.

If you get an email with the link, Proofpoint Email Protection runs in a safe environment to check whether it is malicious before allowing it into your company, making it a great technology. The aforementioned area describes the tool's ability to identify and block threats.

My company doesn't use the product's data loss prevention and email encryption capabilities since both are expensive options. My company only runs the base products, so we don't acquire the licenses to use certain functionalities.

The product's integration with other products in the infrastructure is okay, but the configuration part takes a long time. The product works fine once it is up and running. The initial setup is complicated.

I recommend the product to those who plan to use it. Before purchasing the product, users need to engage with the solution's consultant since it is not a tool that you want to deal with by yourself. You need to understand what you want to ensure that the product's configuration is proper.

I rate the overall an eight out of ten.

Offers an additional layer of protection compared to other brands
Pros and Cons
  • "Proofpoint Email Protection offers an additional layer of protection compared to other brands like Microsoft, Mimecast, and Barracuda. While these major companies excel at detecting malicious attachments, the solution goes further by analyzing the context of emails, allowing for more nuanced decision-making."
  • "The product's deployment is complex and requires technical knowledge."

What is our primary use case?

I use the product for email protection and staff awareness training.

What is most valuable?

Proofpoint Email Protection offers an additional layer of protection compared to other brands like Microsoft, Mimecast, and Barracuda. While these major companies excel at detecting malicious attachments, the solution goes further by analyzing the context of emails, allowing for more nuanced decision-making.

The solution doesn't slow down things. It's very effective at blocking spam and phishing emails.

What needs improvement?

The product's deployment is complex and requires technical knowledge.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the product for six months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is mature and stable. The tool's strength lies in its extensive industry knowledge and access to up-to-date information on the latest cyber threats. This allows their products to stay current and adapt to the evolving market in real-time.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the tool's scalability an eight out of ten. My company has 100 users.

How are customer service and support?

I haven't contacted the tool's technical support.

How was the initial setup?

The solution's deployment is complex if you use Google instead of Microsoft. You need to know the settings to make the most out of it. The process took two hours to complete. However, the customer needs to cooperate.

What was our ROI?

The product's effectiveness in blocking phishing attacks is significant, especially considering that approximately 93 percent of breaches occur through phishing. It outperforms many other leading brands in terms of blocking such attacks.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The tool's pricing depends on the customer's preference, offering options for an annual license or a monthly subscription. The cost varies based on factors such as the number of users and specific requirements. Overall, the pricing is competitive.

What other advice do I have?

The product prevents phishing attacks, but its Data Loss Prevention (DLP) capabilities might be limited compared to other specialized products. While it offers some protection against business email compromise, it may not cover all aspects. Supplementing Proofpoint with additional layers of security, such as Amazon Redshift, is recommended to cover all security aspects. You need a little bit of technical knowledge to set it up. I rate the overall solution a nine out of ten. I haven't got any false positives while using it.
