Project accountant at Montego Upstream Services Limited
Real User
Provides good customer management, customer invoicing, and reporting
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of SAP Business ByDesign are customer invoicing and cost and revenue, from which I get the data for my project reports."
  • "With SAP S/4HANA, you can design your release strategy and modify it to include as many people as possible, which is missing in SAP Business ByDesign."

What is our primary use case?

I'm a project accountant in my organization and use SAP Business ByDesign to prepare my project reports.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of SAP Business ByDesign are customer invoicing and cost and revenue, from which I get the data for my project reports. The solution makes reporting seamless by making capturing of cost easier alongside invoicing of project revenue. The solution provides good customer management and reporting.

What needs improvement?

The approval process for the solution could be improved. With SAP S/4HANA, you can design your release strategy and modify it to include as many people as possible, which is missing in SAP Business ByDesign. That could be an area of improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SAP Business ByDesign for seven months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

SAP Business ByDesign is a stable solution, and we hardly have any downtime.

I rate the solution a nine out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

You can always create more businesses under your organization. The solution is very easy to scale up when your operations are changing.

I rate the solution's scalability a nine out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have previously worked with SAP S/4HANA. SAP Business ByDesign has a more friendly user interface compared to SAP S/4HANA.

What other advice do I have?

SAP Business ByDesign has improved our financial operations by eliminating the need to maintain data from multiple sources. We now have just a single source of data. We have more data integrity because we can see an audit trail of how a document or information came to be on the system.

With the solution's real-time analytics capability, we can now see the affairs of our business in real-time. Earlier, we had to wait until the end of the month for different users in the finance department to come up with their reports before we could present a position to the management. With real-time analytics, we don't have to wait until the end of the month, and we can give the management a position on the affairs of the business at any given point in time, any time of the month.

I would recommend the solution to other users. With businesses changing daily, the solution's interface should be as user-friendly as possible. Ambiguous language or steps do not necessarily add value to the system.

Overall, I rate SAP Business ByDesign nine and a half out of ten.

Head - Finance Transformation (accountant at Contetra Private Limited
Real User
Provides an excellent user interface and dashboard, but it is expensive and doesn’t enable customization
Pros and Cons
  • "The user interface is the best feature."
  • "The tool must enable users to customize the reports."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is primarily for finance and accounts. It's spread across multiple industries, including service, trading, and a bit of manufacturing.

How has it helped my organization?

The product brings a fair bit of accountability into the system. There are checks and balances. The maker-checker and workflow are in place. Certain transactions that require a bit of system-based controls, validations, and logic are enforced better. These are the reasons why I prefer the tool. The solution helps me organize things in procurement. Earlier, it used to be outside the books in Excel. About 30% to 35% of the data in Excel has come into the ERP. To that extent, the tool is automated.

What is most valuable?

The user interface is the best feature. The dashboards are good.

What needs improvement?

The ability to customize must be improved. The tool must enable users to customize the reports.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for 15 to 17 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the tool’s stability a ten out of ten. There were no bugs. If we do not factor in a business scenario, it will be a problem. It is part of the business requirements.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Almost 8000 employees use the solution in our organization. The vendor gave us a middleware area to customize. Technically, though it is a cloud solution, there is a middle layer. I rate the scalability a seven or eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

If a support person knows something the client needs, they must tell the client quickly. The support people keep trying, experimenting, and then come back to us with a solution. It is not professional. The technical partners are not competitive enough to give solutions within the accepted SLAs. They do their own experiments, take their time, and come back with a solution.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was complex. An end user cannot do it. It can be best done by implementation or technical partners. I rate the ease of setup one out of ten. We must do a business study before implementation. The core implementation and installation took 24 days.

What about the implementation team?

We cannot implement the tool. We must have a partner to help us deploy the solution. The deployment is not that user-friendly.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Only one out of ten businesses in India could afford the product. The tool’s price must be improved.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I prefer project management software like Jira over a project management module that is part of a larger software. A software dedicated to project management will give us more versatility and functionality. I have used Microsoft Dynamics before. Dynamics was very inferior to Oracle Fusion 20 years ago. Today, the gap has been substantially reduced.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend the product because of its ability to customize and extract work. I will not recommend it because it is expensive. Overall, I rate the product a seven out of ten.
