Useful technology with helpful support but it's hard to set up Tanzu clusters
Pros and Cons
  • "VMware comes with a support team, and if you have trouble, you can easily create a ticket, and VMware will help you. Therefore, the best aspect is the support."
  • "The initial setup should be easier and more seamless."

What is our primary use case?

I primarily use the solution for consulting. I help company DevOps teams.

How has it helped my organization?

The companies are already using VMware technologies and Tanzu helps them be compatible with other technologies.

What is most valuable?

The company is able to use native Kubernetes. It can support open-source technologies. If you have trouble putting these together with VMware, you get help.

VMware comes with a support team, and if you have trouble, you can easily create a ticket, and VMware will help you. Therefore, the best aspect is the support.

It's a good, useful technology. It does help with third-party integration.

The solution can scale.

It is stable.

Technical support has been okay.

What needs improvement?

It's hard to set up Tanzu clusters. It's hard to do a POC. Once you set up a customer's environment, you easily see the problems.

The initial setup should be easier and more seamless.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. I'd rate it seven or eight out of ten. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is not exactly scalable. Cloud services are far more scalable. That said, Kubernetes is scalable, and I haven't had issues with scaling.

How are customer service and support?

I've dealt with support. It's okay.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup can be complex. It's hard to set up clusters.

It takes about one technical person if they understand the clusters. However, it's helpful to get the network and security team involved as well.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. It's a useful tool if you are using VMware.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Quick solution that is great for virtualization and preparing infrastructure to test products
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is great for virtualization and preparing the infrastructure in Tanzu to test products. It's very fast and has good visibility."
  • "The documentation and integration with Kubernetes could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use Tanzu in our encryption company. We use this solution to prepare products for our designer and for sites that are used internally.

We are using version 1.2. The solution is deployed on-premises. There are about 100 people using this solution in my organization.

We also use Kubernetes and HA Proxy.

What is most valuable?

The solution is great for virtualization and preparing the infrastructure in Tanzu to test products. It's very fast and has good visibility.

What needs improvement?

The documentation and integration with Kubernetes could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We tested this product for two years, and I have used it for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There were problems with stability that were solved in the last update.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is easy to scale.

How are customer service and support?

I have only contacted technical support because of a problem with the proxy on a previous version.

How was the initial setup?

Setup was difficult because of the documentation. Now that I understand it, I can reinstall and test a new version in less than two hours.

It takes times to learn how the infrastructure works.

If they are familiar with the solution, three people are enough for installation.

What about the implementation team?

We deployed with a vendor.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I would rate the pricing as three out of five.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution as eight out of ten.

When installing this solution, my advice is to watch videos about the installation because the text documentation is difficult to understand.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
