Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature for improving network visibility with Gigamon is the packet filtering capability."
  • "In terms of improvement, while the initial setup is not overly complicated, we did encounter a few issues."

What is our primary use case?

We mostly use it for network visibility, security monitoring, and performance monitoring.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature for improving network visibility with Gigamon is the packet filtering capability. This feature allows us to select and focus on the specific network traffic that we need for deep analysis, while also eliminating duplicates.

What needs improvement?

In terms of improvement, while the initial setup is not overly complicated, we did encounter a few issues.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Gigamon Deep Observability Pipeline for a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Based on my one year of experience, the Gigamon solution has been consistently stable without encountering any problems.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of the solution is good. I would rate it at an eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

In both cases where I needed support, I received prompt and helpful responses. I would rate Gigamon's technical support and customer service as a solid ten out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Gigamon is normal. While it is not particularly easy, it is also not difficult. There were some encountered errors during setup, but these were resolved with the help of email support. Overall, the process is manageable, especially with prior training and resources available.

The deployment time varied between one week for one instance and four days for another. The steps involved installing the project manager, deploying physical devices at the customer site, and configuring connections. A total of six staff members were involved, including collaboration partners and company personnel. Currently, there are around eight staff members certified for maintaining the Gigamon solution in the company.

What other advice do I have?

Gigamon has significantly enhanced our network traffic analysis capabilities. Before Gigamon, we couldn't observe certain traffic types, but now we can see everything. Implementing Gigamon alongside other solutions like NDR or SIEMs allows us to redirect traffic effectively. It is particularly useful for both virtual and physical environments, making monitoring easier across different setups.

Using Gigamon's threat detection abilities has resulted in notable improvements. We have seen reduced bandwidth utilization for solutions like ADAAR and NDR due to more efficient filtering and traffic redirection. This optimization has led to better event management and reduced strain on network resources.

Implementing Gigamon into clients' environments typically involves providing training courses and materials to explain its functionality. This results in improved workflow efficiency for the IT teams, as they gain a better understanding and can effectively utilize Gigamon to enhance their environment.

I would recommend Gigamon Deep Observability Pipeline to others. Overall, I would rate it as a ten out of ten. It is a great product.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Used for configuration management, procurement, and asset management
Pros and Cons
  • "From my perspective as an asset manager, the most valuable feature of the solution is the configuration management portion, where I can actively add something to the database."
  • "The solution needs to add mobilization, where we can connect mobile devices or wireless devices to do wireless scanning and bring assets into the database."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution on a daily basis for configuration management, capture of configuration management, consumption, and addition.

What is most valuable?

We use the solution for everything, including procurement, asset management, and services that particularly fall under ITIL whenever change management occurs.

From my perspective as an asset manager, the most valuable feature of the solution is the configuration management portion, where I can actively add something to the database. The solution gives us the ability to create our own tailored reports. We can create our own dashboards within the system that display everything we currently have within the configuration management database.

What needs improvement?

The solution needs to add mobilization, where we can connect mobile devices or wireless devices to do wireless scanning and bring assets into the database.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using ServiceNow IT Operations Management since January 2022.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the solution a nine out of ten for stability.

What other advice do I have?

The solution has improved our incident response time. Since we have everything in that one centralized database, someone can quickly submit an incident issue whenever there's an issue, and we can quickly respond to that incident. ServiceNow IT Operations Management supports our cloud resource management well.

The solution's dashboard and reporting tools have improved our decision-making process. We create all types of dashboards for everyone who needs visibility of what's currently going on within the system.

We are using the web-based and cloud-based versions of ServiceNow IT Operations Management. It was easy to integrate ServiceNow IT Operations Management with the current systems we already had on-premises.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.
