A product that ensures its users experience an ROI from its use while helping with areas like voice and data testing
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution's technical support is very good."
  • "I think some of the product's documentation has shortcomings and needs improvement."

What is our primary use case?

My company used AppNeta by Broadcom to do voice testing on several customer sites, and we also did some data testing. Right now, my company is trying to see if the tool works within a cloud-based solution and trying to troubleshoot something that the customers are experiencing right now over the cloud with their Microsoft Teams.

How has it helped my organization?

In our company, the tool helps us get to where we think an issue is occurring, and we also can improve the network setup correctly for our customers with Q-SYS and similar settings.

What is most valuable?

The solution has a few valuable features because it allows our company to install an actual hardware appliance in the customers' network. With AppNeta by Broadcom, you can do packet captures from it and also deal with the area of user experience. The tool also has the ability to set up phones and Power over Ethernet (PoE), so you can get some traces from the actual phones set towards the PBXs.

What needs improvement?

I think some of the product's documentation has shortcomings and needs improvement. Though the product offers documents and stuff like that, sometimes it doesn't explain how to get to certain parts fully, so I have to open up support tickets. The solution's support team is good at responding to my queries and working with our company.

There is not much that I require from the solution's future releases. The more information that you have on your company's customers' network, the solution will be able to obtain better information, but sometimes you are just a device in the network, and you don't know about a lot of the things that are going on in an environment, making you feel blind in a way.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using AppNeta by Broadcom for three or four years. I use the solution's latest version because you have to keep the actual endpoints up to date.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability-wise, I rate the solution an eight out of ten. I rate the scalability a six for what I plan on using the tool, but it depends since I have to work with the support group to give an exact rating.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support is very good. I rate the technical support a nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have no experience with solutions other than AppNeta by Broadcom.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase was not too bad since the solution provides users with all the firewall rules required to help with what needs to be opened up. The only problem with the product is that the company relies on the customers to follow the aforementioned steps, and then the company has to troubleshoot with them often and ask them if they opened up a certain port or not, while there are ways within AppNeta to check and see if those ports are available. The problem is with having to rely on the customer, so if there was a way for the solution to help our company get through without having to deal with the customers, then it would be great, but I understand that customers are a big part of it, and our company needs to work with them.

Our company has the hardware appliances at our office right now, and we are planning on deploying them at one of our customer's sites.

What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment from the use of the solution. In our company, we do assessments, and we don't put the product out into the hands of our customers since they won't get the full value of it. If our company does an actual assessment for a customer who has to pay 5,000 USD in a month, which is not a lot of work since it doesn't capture one person's day of work or anything like that because you can do reporting and everything, and then you just basically run the reports through the actual system. Considering the aforementioned details, I probably spent 15 to 20 hours on the solution for my last customer. My company had installed three units at the customer's site.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I find the solution's price to be fairly good. In terms of the price, what I heard about ThousandEyes was a bit too much, but I found AppNeta by Broadcom was a product with pretty good pricing.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

My company considered ThousandEyes against AppNeta by Broadcom because one of our customers suggested it to our company.

What other advice do I have?

To those who plan to use the solution, I would say that you have to fully immerse yourself in the product. With AppNeta by Broadcom, when I was running tests from my house to our network in my data center, seeing certain things since you have more control over them helps you get more information from the product. The biggest thing is that you need to try to get yourself immersed in the product, and then the other thing is trying to understand how the unit should be deployed in certain locations and stuff like that because every customer has a different way of doing things and are able to place the device since they mostly prefer to place it at the closest point where the problem is occurring. In a data center, you need to consider placing the product closer to the server where the issue might be happening or closer to the demarcation point.

I rate the overall product a seven to eight out of ten.
