I am using ARIS for several years now.

In the last 5 years, this product has amazed all the product vendors with the rich modeling interface and variety of model types it supports.

I think more than 200+ model types for Function, Data, Technology, Organization and Product/Services areas. This gives the flexibility to use a specific model type with associated data object depending upon stakeholder.

My favorite BPD tool is the one I can get for what I can pay. Most tools are good enough to be useful, but it all depends on the objectives you want or need to achieve. It depends also on particular preferences.

It depends on my use case.

When doing it for myself, I prefer Sparx Enterprise Architect, as I can develop more elements jointly with the BPM design. However, disadvantage is the usability.

For an approach with normal users (business analysts with low IT level), we analysed several tools and finally concluded Camunda's open source editor. You do not need many explantions, easy to use, export is available.

I also used several other tools, mosty notably Bizagi, which I would also recommend.

I enjoy using Bizagi process modeler

I like its simplicity and the fact that it user friendly-it does not require one to have an IT or systems developer background which is a plus to in my work environment

I Like its simulation capabilities enabling us to model as-is processes an run different simulations that can show us how the to-be process would behave like

It is open source

I will offer some generic guidance.

There are several excellent business process solutions available. I recommend learning about each of them, getting a trial period for each one, building a list of specific questions (some examples:

easy to learn? easy to use? solves specific problems? dynamic process modeling? business rules creation? adaptable? support availability? support quality? the total cost of ownership? etc.) and discussing them with colleagues here on PeerSpot and other similar sites to compare and contrast your observations with actual users.

You will have to live with your decision for a long time. It's best to have sufficient knowledge and understanding of how a given solution helps your business before you make a commitment you could regret.

Sparx Enterprise Architect.  I've created an entire interactive model of the Retail Enterprise in this tool. Check out this YouTube Video

Business Process Design
What is business process design? Business process design (BPD) is the formation, from the ground up, of entirely new workflows. The process generally takes place at the very beginning of planning product development, production, and distribution.
